This week on the Mojo in the Morning Show, we are saying goodbye. And goodbye to something that we, for the last 20 years, have called our home. We are moving out of our Mojo in the Morning Detroit broadcast facility in Farmington Hills, Michigan, where this radio station, Channel 955, which is the Detroit hub, has been broadcasting for a long time. And it's a lot of memories here. A lot of great radio has been broadcast out of this building. A lot of great radio personalities, a lot of great radio staff, all the great office people and salespeople that have walked these hallways. We've had so many different laughs, so many different cries. We've had amazing amounts of contests that have taken place in our parking lot from our turkey shoots to we had Soulja Boy doing the Soulja Boy dance. in the back of this building with more than 3,000 people, believe it or not, in this parking lot that is not a very big parking lot. People parked all the way down to Hagerty Road from where we are, which is a couple miles away to walk and do that one. We've had so many different radio formats that came out of this building, including a sports radio format. And when I say so many different radio formats, I'm not just talking about 106.7, which I think changes format like every week or had for a while there. Um, and we're going to be saying goodbye to what was our home for a very long time. And I know that it's mixed feelings because I know that it's a place that you've heard us bitch about for such a long time because we thought we were moving years ago, but it is officially happening. We have had the worst of heating and cooling in this place. The summer times we sweat our asses off the winter times we freeze our asses off. But truly I walked out of here last week at the end of the week. And when I walked out and got to my car, which is parked in, I love that nobody else from any of the other stations are here because I get parking spot number three behind Lydia and Shannon because I'm the third one here in the morning behind those two. But I got kind of emotional when I walked out. It was weird. I walked down the steps. And as I was walking down the steps, I can remember back when we moved into this building. And it seemed like an asinine move. It was like, why are we moving to Farmington Hills, Michigan? And there's really not even a freeway that's close to here. Like you had to like jump off in 96, 96 and get here. Like it would make sense, right? If we were moving to an area, but this building was cool. It used to be the old headquarters for A&W Root Beer.

Yeah.

And I think we got it for a good price. And, um, but, but you know, what's funny is it's interesting. Sometimes you move into a place thinking you're only going to be there for a little bit and then you're there for a while. And what does it do? It turns into your home. Yeah. and that's kind of what it was

I mean it's a big part of our day we're here you know

yeah eight hours a day at least do you guys and listen I know we've all had homes and I know Shannon recently your mom

moved out of your old childhood home yeah and which was an emotional time for you right because

you got all those memories that go um it actually was not i talked about this no it just wasn't i was very excited for her to get out of that space it had good memories but it also had a lot of bad memories but this this is going to be very different because i feel like i did a lot of growing up in this studio specifically sitting in this chair like i when i you know the my first day on this radio station i talked about how i had known mojo for a couple of years but i was moving to michigan and coming out of ending a relationship ending an engagement so i was here i was single i was trying to figure out who the heck i was i was in my early 20s and you know i found out that i was gonna co-host with regis philbin sitting in this chair i went into labor with lucy sitting in this chair i had to sit in this space when i was bed rest with Smith. I mean, like, I think about how many really big, good and bad things happened while I was in this space, in this room, in the studio. And, uh, and we've had, we've had so many

people that have been on this show that, I mean, I look in the other room sometimes and I see the faces of, of past, you know, interns and producers and, uh, see past co-hosts at different microphones, uh past uh you know uh sales people when i walked by cubicles i can remember uh believe it or not you know donna who god rest her soul donna was one of our traffic managers i used to see her every morning when i was would go to the bathroom at 9 10 during that commercial break and she would always be there and she would always go good morning mojo like she always say that to you and she was one of those women that didn't really say a lot but when she said something to you it was always usually a pleasant thing i'm thinking wow there's so many different memories that come out of this building it's wild I walked out and I don't know if is there anybody listening that has ever moved from a home probably more so than a business maybe you moved from like work maybe you worked at a place for a long time and then you moved to a new job or you retired or quit or got fired and you walk out of there and you go wow a lot of your life was was there I think I i told this to uh chelsea when i got home last week and i said god i got emotional when i left the building knowing that we only have two more shows left tomorrow's it um and i told her i said as much as i hate the things about this building like the stuff that breaks and things like that i love a lot more than i hate you know and uh it's like a it's like an old house you hate paying the bills for the damn thing and all the fixing up jobs but you have a child that you brought home to it and that changes everything yeah it's weird uh what's going on mojo in the morning hi Lexi how are you good how are you guys good have you ever been in this building before Lexi were you

ever part of a contest actually I was for the cars cash and gas this summer oh my gosh okay so you got to see what this place is all about it is yeah it's really cool I didn't know it was out there and i've been there my whole life and i drove past i was like oh my gosh that remote has been my whole life yeah but my grandma she actually is moving and she's been in her home for like 45 years and i grew up there like she raised me and everything and my grandpa had passed in 2018 so now we're like okay it's time to you know get grandma into a place that she can maintain herself and it's literally the hardest thing ever like i can't even i don't want to go over there like i had to pack up my grandpa's garage and my kids are like let's go to gt's house and i'm like you guys gg's house isn't anymore like they're selling it i don't know how to explain it to them but it's just a big part of our life it's so hard it's it's weird

and then the weird thing is going to be when you drive by that house and they change the color of

it and you're like why do they do that i'm so worried about yeah i'm so worried someone's gonna like flip it or something i'm like no that's my family home like i've got my baby's home here

it is it is so weird i will say this grandparents homes always felt good to you right going to grandma's house oh it's the safest place and it is it's a it is it's a total it's a total safe spot and then to know that yeah i got to sell it and you got to move them somewhere else just is so sad so uh well i hope you guys the best thank you we're excited we're very excited for this new building but i'm gonna tell you it's gonna take a little bit before we can call it home what's up

um so i know how you guys are feeling exactly yeah i grew up in um my house my parents moved there when they were married and they had me in that house and

And I grew up there all my life. And then I ended up buying the house from my mom. Oh, that's sweet.

That's what I should do. Can I buy this building? Keep it?

We got money.

And then I ended up bringing my daughter home into it and building a family life into that very same home. And then we ended up, unfortunately, had to move. and it was very, very heartbreaking when I walked out of that door and I locked it for the first time.

Oh, man. Well, you know what, though? You got to have it, though. You got to be the next person after the family, and then you can pass it on.

I was, and my daughter still talks about that house, so she still remembers it and everything. So I'm glad that at least she had some memory in that house like I did.

I miss working in that building. and I thought that you all had moved out a year ago. We were supposed to. We were supposed to. But I will tell you this. It's going to be a sad time. Sad time, but yet a very happy time, and we're excited to meet everybody down in Eastern Market. hopefully our new neighbors don't think we're crazy you know what i mean so hopefully they look at us like oh we like having you guys in the neighborhood they're all very much anticipating us

i met a girl out the other day who works at the little jewelry store no no that's right down the street i haven't been in and she said all yeah she said all of eastern market is everybody's

talking and they're waiting for us to come i was very excited i it's going to be so dangerous for us to move down there because every time i'm down there thank god she is closed a couple of days uh in the middle of the week. And those are always the days that I'm down there because I walk by and I go, today, today, today can't be the day. I don't have the money in the account for it today, but I know I'm going to visit her and get some jewelry.

That's the part that's going to be so interesting is because sometimes there are businesses that don't have regular hours. And you're like, you're trying to figure out what the hell their hours are, but.
