my major is drafting and design. In high school, I did it since my sophomore year, and I kind of wanted to continue it. It was the only thing I was good at. I didn't want to move to a four-year yet. I don't think I was mentally prepared. I found Bishop State. They had the program. I met a few people there. I ended up enrolling. The instructor, first I met him, I told him about my background. He said, okay, great. You know about this. He built me straight to work. He didn't let me have any leeway. He pushed me to my limits, so I think that made me choose drafting design at Bishop State and stuck with it. The sport's amazing. All my instructors just want to see me succeed. They want to push me to my limit. They want to see me be the best I can be, get a job, just be as successful as I can be, and I really appreciate all of them. With my degree, as of right now, my plan is to work for the city of Mobile with their urban planning department, and I've already got a job shadow before, and hopefully I will internship over the summer. Next week I'm going to be going to an event that's actually pretty cool that honestly I've got to be quite honest with you. I didn't know anything about until I met Judge Warren, Judge Michael Warren, who is a big judge here. You don't want to go before him because I bet he's tough. I mean, he'll put you right in jail. I bet you. Let's ask him this morning when he comes on the air with us. What kind of a sentence would he give Kevin for bad jokes? Judge, we should have you be our bad joke judge. If it's anything to do with the joke you gave yesterday, you get in life.

Oh, wait, I know Judge Warren. I met him at the charity event that I went to where all the judges were bartending. Yeah.

The celebrity bartending. Judge, you were bartending at that event?

I did meet you. Absolutely. You're so fun.

That was a lot of fun. Yes. Oh, thank you. Yeah, it was a great time.

Judge Warren likes to give back to the kids, especially. So he wants kids to know a little bit about the country that they live in. And, Judge, what is this big event called?

So it's called the Patrick Henry Dimmel. May 23rd, Patrick Henry gave the Give Me Liberty, Give Me Death speech. So we celebrate that as part of Patriot Week, which goes from September 11th to September 17th, where we renew the spirit of America by celebrating our founding first principles from a declaration of independence. The documents and speeches that embody that founding fathers and other great patriots and flags from our history. The point is to renew the spirit of America by reminding people what unites us. We have so much that divides us, but there's so much that unites us that, unfortunately, we tend to forget, like the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, our rights and unalienable rights, limited government, the social compact, equality, the rule of law. some of our founding figures, such as James Madison and Patrick Hungry, George Washington, but newer figures like Martin Luther King Jr. and Elizabeth Patty Stanton. And so the event is very unique. It's next Thursday at the San Marino Club, starting at 5.30, VIP and 6.30 for the general program. And we have a reenactment of the Patrick Hungry dinner. Excuse me. speech really liberty give me that speech we also have absolutely we also but very unique because we're going to have a debate between george washington and king george the third oh my gosh okay which is going to be spectacular uh nothing like it uh anywhere else uh so it's going to be good good theater uh and we're recognizing some patriots of the year uh we are a non-partisan 501c if you recognize and recognized by the u.s senate unanimously six years in a row so this year we're honoring justice richard bernstein of the michigan supreme court mike machinosh of detroit axel which is a great patriotic company he's he's quite a patriot has his own unique story and a volunteer of the year john ruska

the civil air patrol. So it's going to be a really fun and educational event as well.

Judge, do they still, in Michigan, because when I grew up in Illinois, I don't know if Michigan does this, but in Illinois, we had to, to pass eighth grade, we had to take a constitution test. Did you guys ever have to do that in Michigan at all? No.

I think they stopped that in like 1980.

We used to have to pass this test, and my dad actually said, my dad said to me, he goes, you know what it's like? It's like the lawyers trying to pass the bar exam because you'd have to learn everything, and if you didn't pass it, you had to take it again. You had to take it until you passed it. Could you do us a favor? You got three things off the top of your head. I know that this guy, by the way, is such a historian. I've never met anybody that knows more about this country than this guy does, Judge Michael Warren. Maybe come up with... No, seriously, you're very patriotic.

Did you? Oh, you were in his jury?

I wasn't in his jury, but he came. There were like a couple hundred of us, and he came in and gave like a big speech about how important being at jury duty is.

Judge. Absolutely. I can tell you this. Megan may be the only person I know that wants to do jury duty, and she never did.

I get denied all the time. I want grand jury duty.

It is a great experience. Nobody wants to do it, but the last time I went into a jury and I asked folks, I said, what did you think? The person raised their hand, I said, this is amazing. The time before that, they raised their hand and they said, this is a real pain in the neck. Nobody wants to do it, but it's so important that we do, and I'm so glad that I did. It is an amazing experience. If you're calling in for jury duty, take a deep breath. It's going to be great. If you're impaneled, you're going to really enjoy it, I think.

I'm going to do the jail reviews or the grand jury so bad. I get dismissed every time.

Can I tell you something? You should sit in on, could Megan or all of us, can we sit in on one of your cases and sit in on a trial?

Oh, absolutely. I'd love for that. And I also have what's called criminal call where we do arraignments and pre-trials and I take pleas and I sentence folks. This is my date line dream. Wow.

So I have court in a couple of weeks. Any suggestions?

I would say Bishop State's like a home for people. It may not be like a four-year where you have a dorm, you have a roommate, you have a rec center, but it's still a place you can go meet new people, classmates, put them in the hallway, make friends with advisors on all these teachers and everything like that. It's just a place you can feel like yourself and not try to be the thing you don't want to be. With this program, I learned networking a lot. We've had two dinners with heads of different companies dealing with shipping or even game design, dealing with AutoCAD or 3D modeling. So really being able to meet new people or meet heads of new people has been really helpful. I don't come from a wealthy family, so four years were kind of not out the picture, but less probable for me to go to. Bishop State, with my scholarship, it cut my price in half and made it way easier for me to go to school for the same 12 credits I would go for a four-year.
