This is the Bishop Statement at Bishop State Community College. We want you to hear what our students, educators, and business leaders have to say.

Allen Lee, my major is drafting and design. In high school, I did it since my sophomore year, and I kind of wanted to continue it. It was the only thing I was good at. I didn't want to move to a four-year. I don't think I was mentally prepared. I found Bishop State. They had the program. I met a few people there. I ended up enrolling. The instructor, first I met him, I told him about my background. He said, okay, great, you know about this. He built me straight to work. He didn't let me have any leeway. He pushed me to my limits. So I think that made me choose drafting design at Bishop State and stuck with it. The sport's amazing. All my instructors just want to see me succeed. They want to push me to my limit. They want to see me be the best I can be, get a job, just be as successful as I can be. And I really appreciate all of them. With my degree, as of right now, my plan is to work for the city of Mobile with their urban planning department. And I've already got a job shadow before, and hopefully I will internship over the summer. If you choose Bishop, we're welcome to have you any day.

All right, it's Mojo in the morning. Shannon, you say that if you knew this about Wes, your husband, you would have never married him.

Well, I would have given it a lot more sinking than I did.

So I have been waiting a year at least to see Wicked, okay? um and i on friday night went to see it with wes and lucy and smith and i mean like i i was so ready for this i had my pink on be the good everybody i we had the seats we had all all i was so excited i've seen wicked five times on the stage so like i can't even she almost cried i love it If that man leaned over and whispered something in my ear one more time during that movie, I was going to punch him. I was so into it. And at one point, Kev, you'll love this. He leaned over and he goes, is this my payback for the Maxwell concert?

First off, no.

Second, musicals are what I grew up doing. I never played a dang sport in my whole entire life. Third, I've been waiting so long to see this movie, so shut it. and afterwards he admitted that the singing was impressive but he said he cringed every time another dance number started which is all three hours of the movie yeah um and he just said i

don't like musicals do you uh do you hate that because of as a spouse of somebody that i like will try to hang out with her and stuff i will ask her a million questions about whatever things she's watching her shows she's watching would you rather us just not go with you then to the shows

And honestly, and I said, I love you so much, but I know now that you are, like, he's never seen a musical. He's never been to the Fisher or the Fox or whatever to see a music, ever in his whole entire life, he's never seen one. And so I just said, I know now, thank you, that you are not going to be my person. You know what? I love you, but it's going to be- Can I tell you? It's going to be Megan. It's going to be my friend Ashley. It's going to be people who love going to see a musical.

I think that you, I think you take him to one of those shows, it would be better than taking him to a movie with a show that's playing.

He said that he can't stand the dancing.

Well, no, the thing is when you see it live in front of you, you're like, oh my God, these guys are talented. Cause I hate, uh, you know, I'm not a big, you know, fan of wicked, but seeing it live would be way better than seeing just a movie version of it. Cause like, I never got into high school musical at all. I was never like somebody I could watch. I couldn't watch high school musical on TV. That to me, like when I watched, I remember when we did a promotion one time and we had to watch it at a promotion with a bunch of people cause we were doing something with Zac Efron, and I remember going, this is awful.

Also, I feel like as a guy who's never seen a musical, Wicked is probably not the first one to introduce him to. Oh, so I disagree. Really? Yeah. Yeah, I think it's... Listen to y'all, y'all in unison right now. Lion King would be better. Lion King would be better. You know what I mean? Temptation.

That's so funny you said that, Mojo, because he goes, maybe you should have taken me to the Lion King. Here's the thing, though. It's not even just about Wicked. This was my life from the time I was born until I went away to college. I was in every play, community, theater, Southgate community, players, Peter Pan. That was me. I went to Interlock and Arts Camp in the summer. I was the president of Thespian Troop 2860. Shout out, go Red Devils. This is my blood, and he is just not. Nope. But even more than that, just don't poo-poo on something that your significant other enjoys. To be fair, to be fair, I did poo-poo on Maxwell.

Yeah.

But that's just one concert. He was right. This is like a whole thing.

I see women going to Lions games knitting sometimes. And I'm like, why did they bring her to this thing? Like, why would a guy bring her to that, you know? And there's probably some things that you guys don't have to do together, you know? Don't ask me questions, though. Lydia. That's what I don't want. Call Tracy Wilson from CBS Sports, by the way. Oh, my goodness. We screwed that up. She just texted me and said that she's been waiting for our call. Abby, are you there?

Hi. So I had texted in that my husband will only agree to watch one musical with me a year, and it hurts me. It hurts me real bad.

Well, maybe take him to a good one so that he likes it more. What are you taking him to?

I try. I try to curate the best ones. We've done Hamilton. We just did Wicked. And he got more into it when I started explaining, like, the lore behind it. I kind of had to spoil the second part for him. There needs to be a really good backstory or he's not into it.

Hamilton was a great one. Like, I've gone to a lot of musicals, but it was long. Like, I feel like some, like, if there was a guy's version of these, it would just be one act, you know, and you could leave an intermission.

That's fair. We watched it on Disney+, so we made it into two movies. We watched the first act, and then we watched the second act for another movie night.

Are you a sports girl? Do you like going to sporting events?

I would rather go to a sporting event than watch sports on TV. I think it's a lot more interesting, like, being a person, and you're a lot more engaged.

So, yeah, I'll go with him wherever he wants to go, but I get to have him watch one musical a year.

So, yeah, so while I was dating my husband, he told me the same thing. I love musicals, and he does not like musicals. So I took him to the Birmingham Theater to see the best little whorehouse in Texas. I love that. got done and he was i said why did you like it he goes yeah that was pretty good yes there you go

you know what's funny about that is it reminds me of when my buddies used to always ask me if i wanted to go to the windsor ballet and i said to him i don't like ballet like i'm never and they're like no no you're gonna like the windsor ballet and i'd never idea what the windsor ballet what is that the windsor ballet because none of you guys know what the windsor ballet is is code terms for they wanted to go to the strip club over in windsor oh that's the windsor ballet and i was like oh okay that was like the idea was we're going over there we're gonna go hang out and watch you know boobies and stuff uh anita what's happening it's mojo in the morning

actually so kyra was a member of the show when she was a little girl all she wanted was an easy bake oven in her family never gave her one they she would talk about how her parents and grandparents couldn't afford it so one year for Christmas I drew her and I got her an easy bake oven and it was no joke the greatest gift I could have ever given anyone because her reaction was

so touching yes okay what's up right so you also had a contest at that time of the worst Christmas gift ever and we got invited on the show me and my kids I pulled my kids out of school So, yeah.

i did and um we came to the studio and you picked i think two random people for the worst christmas gifts ever and we took pictures and you put this little it was a scarf kind of hideous and you put it on your head we took pictures of it and you kind of braid her on the studio with the scarf on your head and but when you pulled those two names it wasn't our names and my daughter was 11 12 at the time and she started bawling and you came over you're so kind oh you came over oh are you crying and you said what's wrong and I said we're just we're going through a hard time and I just wanted to bring them a little bit of joy just by coming here was a big deal but you gave her two high school musicals let me tell you something she's 28 years old now and that was like one of the biggest impressionable times.

My name is Neterica, Terry LaMille, and my major is general education. Some of the obstacles I have overcame at Bishop State is proving that I can show up consistently, even when my life was heavy. There are moments where I still feel overwhelmed by balancing work, leadership, parenting, and school, but Bishop reminded me that I'm capable of growth and not perfection, that I'm supported as long as I'm committed to being a better person than I was yesterday. My peers can depend on me. I'm there being poured into, but some of those students don't know that the faculty and staff are really there for them. So when they don't know that, I'm their resource that explain and show them that they're here to help us.
