We look for as much good in the world as we possibly can with Tell Me Something Good, and we talk through the biggest news stories of the day, and also your biggest and favorite country artists are always stopping by. This is the Bishop Statement at Bishop State Community College. We want you to hear what our students, educators, and business leaders have to say.

00:01:06 - 00:01:51 | Speaker 5:

I would say Bishop State's like a home for people. It may not be like a four-year where you have a dorm, you have a roommate, you have a rec center, but it's still a place you can go meet new people, classmates, people in the hallway, make friends with advisors on all these teachers and everything like that. It's just a place you can feel like yourself and not try to be the thing you don't want to be. With this program, I learned networking a lot. We've had two dinners with heads of different companies dealing with shipping or even game design builds, dealing with AutoCAD or 3D modeling. So really being able to meet new people or meet heads of new people has been really helpful. I don't come from a wealthy family, so four years were kind of not out the picture, but less probable for me to go to. Bishop State with my scholarship, it cut my price in half and made it way easier for me to go to school for the same 12 credits I would go for a four year.

Oh, Joe, in the morning. Everybody looked so beautiful last night. Literally. Such handsome guys, such beautiful women that work for this radio station, radio show.

00:02:09 - 00:02:12 | Speaker 4:

Kev pulling out a suit and a bow tie. A suit?

00:02:12 - 00:02:14 | Speaker 6:

That was a tux, man, wasn't that?

00:02:14 - 00:02:15 | Speaker 4:

That was pure untuxy.

00:02:15 - 00:02:18 | Speaker 7:

Wasn't it a tux? No, it wasn't. A little dinner jacket. How did that not look tuxy?

00:02:18 - 00:02:23 | Speaker 6:

You had the bow tie. It can look tuxy, but it wasn't a tux. Is that yours, or did you rent it from President Tuxedo?

00:02:23 - 00:02:25 | Speaker 7:

No, that's mine. That's all I mean. It's at the crib right now.

00:02:26 - 00:02:27 | Speaker 6:

What do you do with that normally?

00:02:27 - 00:02:28 | Speaker 7:

That was the first time I wore it.

00:02:28 - 00:02:29 | Speaker 6:

Oh, you bought it?

00:02:29 - 00:02:33 | Speaker 7:

Buy your winter clothes in the summer, y'all. You'll save money, and you'll look good.

00:02:33 - 00:02:49 | Speaker 6:

The ladies look great, too. My God. I got to tell you, I was looking at everybody and how nice they dressed, and the makeup and the hair, awesome. Did you have your makeup friend come over, Megan, or what'd you do?

00:02:50 - 00:03:03 | Speaker 4:

Oh, my God. I did. And I am very, very lucky that I have a friend who does my hair on the regular down in Toledo. I still drive down to get my hair done because I love him so much. His name is Dylan, and he's at Fiber and Strand.

00:03:04 - 00:03:05 | Speaker 6:

Ding. Hold on. There we go.

00:03:05 - 00:04:35 | Speaker 4:

Thank you. Here it goes. Which is down in Toledo. There you go. Well, his partner was my makeup artist for the night. And I was so excited that they got to come up and just hang out at my apartment. We just had a really good time. I love them so much. Well, his partner is non-binary and I was having, and I don't know why sometimes I have such a smooth brain, I swear to God, but I say you guys all the time. And I say it as like a gender neutral thing, right? I call even the girls around here like, hey, you guys, did you see that email that was just sent down? Whatever. Now, his partner did not say anything, but you ever notice when somebody is like kind of irritated? it. You can read it on their face. Right. And I think that I've been saying this over and over and over again to a way that was just like, Megan, come on. And I said, oh, my God, I don't want to be offensive. I don't want to be rude. I want to be super respectful. Like, I love you and I love having you here. I want to make sure that you're comfortable. We have to come up with another phrase. We have to come up for something for my smooth brain to learn. And throughout the afternoon, we were trying different phrases and we decided to settle on hey you sluts. So by the end of the day it was sluts I need some help sipping up my outfit or I need some help getting into these Spanx or whatever it was which seemed so much more disrespectful but turned out being the fun thing of the evening.

00:04:36 - 00:04:49 | Speaker 6:

That's funny. So if women could be hey you guys and not be offended by it if you're non-binary, what would be the, isn't it just a, it's just a phrase. Why would it be

00:04:49 - 00:04:59 | Speaker 4:

such an offensive thing? I don't think it was. I mean, it's something that they didn't say, but you just see it on their face. You know what I mean? Like they didn't bring it out. They didn't say anything. So we came up with a couple of.

00:05:00 - 00:05:25 | Speaker 1:

options some of them were hey fam because you know in the club we all uh we did hey slits they are both y'all is what they brought up and they are both uh drag queens as well so it was queens also worked or what like we came up with a few different options but my personal favorite was they were totally cool with slits and i was like that's the one i'm sticking with so that's pretty

00:05:25 - 00:05:32 | Speaker 6:

funny what if what if uh would it be offensive if cav myself mike or you know zach said to

00:05:32 - 00:05:53 | Speaker 5:

everybody hey you sluts but meaning all the guys too i had to check lydia and megan because they be throwing that bitch a word around like that's gonna float and don't call me like they'd be like bitch like they'd be doing all of that they weren't calling us bitches were they i mean They say it in a friendly way, but it's like, that's not, I don't want that.

00:05:53 - 00:05:59 | Speaker 3:

Ba, ba, ba, ba, bitches. Like, if you look good, I usually go, bitch.

00:05:59 - 00:05:59 | Speaker 6:

Oh.

00:06:00 - 00:06:00 | Speaker 3:

Bitch.

00:06:01 - 00:06:07 | Speaker 6:

That's interesting. I wonder, could you do bitch, but then also include our bosses, Colleen and Tony on that?

00:06:08 - 00:06:13 | Speaker 5:

Like, in our staff meeting later today, could we do that? If I can't call you that, you can't call me that. That's where I'm at with you.

00:06:13 - 00:06:14 | Speaker 6:

You don't want to bitch at all?

00:06:14 - 00:06:15 | Speaker 5:

You don't want to be a bitch?

00:06:15 - 00:06:15 | Speaker 1:

No, I'm not doing that.

00:06:15 - 00:06:16 | Speaker 5:

But there's a difference between.

00:06:16 - 00:06:17 | Speaker 6:

You've been a bitch before, though.

00:06:17 - 00:06:37 | Speaker 4:

I've seen you being a bitch. cultural thing, too, though. Is it? Yeah, yeah, like, we don't get down. Like, in the neighborhood, you don't call nobody that. But, so, oh, wait, so you can't, so a black guy doesn't want to be called a bitch. Oh, no. No, you call a brother a bitch? No, that's a fight. Really? Okay.

00:06:37 - 00:06:52 | Speaker 6:

But what if you mean it as, you know, yo, bitch, what's going on? No? Then what would be the word that you would use for something like that if the guy's just being kind of an idiot? What you mean? I always say jag off, but I don't know. You can say that.

00:06:52 - 00:06:59 | Speaker 4:

Yeah, we can take that. You wild or not or something. I mean, that's crazy. You can come up with a whole bunch of stuff, but not bitch.

00:06:59 - 00:07:00 | Speaker 1:

Do black women use bitch?

00:07:01 - 00:07:01 | Speaker 4:

Yeah, for sure.

00:07:02 - 00:07:06 | Speaker 1:

Okay. All right. Because I don't hear a lot of guys in general use it, unless it's supposed to be a slight.

00:07:06 - 00:07:15 | Speaker 4:

Like for real, like for brothers, though. There's a history. You call a brother a bitch. Yeah. That takes the conversation to a whole other level.

00:07:15 - 00:07:17 | Speaker 1:

There's a history and cultural context that is missing.

00:07:17 - 00:07:18 | Speaker 4:

What's up, Brittany?

00:07:18 - 00:07:19 | Speaker 6:

How you doing?

00:07:20 - 00:07:20 | Speaker 3:

I'm good.

00:07:20 - 00:07:22 | Speaker 1:

How are you? What's up, bitch?

00:07:23 - 00:07:25 | Speaker 3:

No, no, no, no. No, no, no.

00:07:26 - 00:07:29 | Speaker 6:

I said it with an inflection. What's going on?

00:07:29 - 00:07:32 | Speaker 1:

I thought that word wasn't allowed on the radio. Yeah.

00:07:32 - 00:07:33 | Speaker 6:

What's happening?

00:07:34 - 00:07:43 | Speaker 1:

I just wanted to say that the girls look like the Spice Girls, especially Megan. She looked like Ginger Spice. Thank you. That was the inspiration. So thank you.

00:07:43 - 00:07:57 | Speaker 6:

Can you ever wear those pants ever again? or will people notice them from the Jingle Ball? I don't care. They were very standout-y, and I always wonder sometimes when you buy something like that, can you wear it again?

00:07:57 - 00:08:24 | Speaker 1:

I will wear it again. I will not wear them to work because the way that I was human soup under those pleather pants because it was so hot in there. A little sweaty? Little is an understatement. I genuinely thought that there was going to have to be some sort of cleanup crew, some sort of fema evacuation there was a flood going on down there and not in the cutesy sexy way in the gross smelly way you know what i mean you need some hydration then we gotta get you

00:08:24 - 00:08:31 | Speaker 6:

really into one of those ivs what's going on how you doing uh joey hey what up mojo what's up buddy

00:08:31 - 00:08:50 | Speaker 3:

hey i agree with kev man the word bitch and then you don't say that too often around the black community. Really? He's my bitch. He's my own personal bitch. Interesting. So that's not... Depends on how you say it, too. You know, it all depends on how you say it. Okay. It's a black female.

00:08:51 - 00:08:58 | Speaker 6:

All right. But to women, though, is it the same for the women, too? Women to women, it's acceptable. Okay, but not guys?

00:08:58 - 00:09:07 | Speaker 5:

No, I will say, you have to be... It depends on the woman, too, because there has to be a level of comfortability between the women. If they aren't friendly, then it could be interpreted

00:09:07 - 00:09:11 | Speaker 6:

as a negative slight. Rambo. We haven't talked to Rambo in a while. What's up, Rambo?

00:09:12 - 00:09:24 | Speaker 2:

What's going on, family lamb? What's up, Rambo? Rambo, what's going on? I wanted to comment on what y'all saying, man. Of course you can't call no male, no bitch, and you can't call no male no P word.

00:09:24 - 00:09:28 | Speaker 6:

Yeah, you were about to say the word. I saw it up there. I'm like,

00:09:28 - 00:09:30 | Speaker 3:

you can't do that. I hate that word anyway.

00:09:31 - 00:09:32 | Speaker 6:

I love that word.

00:09:32 - 00:09:33 | Speaker 3:

I hate it.

00:09:34 - 00:09:44 | Speaker 6:

That's the best word to call out a guy on a golf course. We use that word on the golf course like we're, you know, we're saying four. You know what I mean? That comes out a lot.

00:09:45 - 00:09:48 | Speaker 5:

And then you combine them and put an A between them. That is really good.

00:09:48 - 00:09:50 | Speaker 6:

Oh, my God. Oh, my God.

00:09:52 - 00:09:53 | Speaker 3:

Oh, my God.

00:09:53 - 00:09:56 | Speaker 6:

I love when the Brits use the C word. I love that.

00:09:56 - 00:09:57 | Speaker 3:

So do I.

00:09:57 - 00:09:59 | Speaker 6:

I just love that. That's the best.

00:09:59 - 00:09:59 | Speaker 1:

My favorite.

00:10:00 - 00:10:02 | Speaker 4:

The British word is the T word, too. Oh, what's the T? Hold on.

00:10:02 - 00:10:03 | Speaker 3:

Before waffle.

00:10:04 - 00:10:18 | Speaker 2:

I hate that word. You know that's one of my... That's probably my least favorite word. This word right here. You talking about telly-ho? No. Telly-ho. Oh, you can say telly-wecker? No. Rhyme for squat. Don't say it. Yeah.

00:10:18 - 00:10:59 | Speaker 4:

You can't say that. Oh, my God. I hate that word. I love that word. I use that a lot. I like that you combine it with waffle, too. That's usually the context of so-and-so, is it? That is the most disgusting word. I love it. They've taken over cities before, but this July, they're bringing the X Games League Championship home to New Orleans. July 24th through 26th at the Superdome. Over 100 elite athletes competing for the first ever league title. Plus, Metro Boomin, JID, Subtronics, and Bunt performing live. This is the Bishop Statement at Bishop State Community College. We want you to hear what our students, educators, and business leaders have to say.

00:11:08 - 00:11:53 | Speaker 2:

My name is Patrick Pettway, and I am getting my Associates of Science and General Education with an emphasis in business administration. To me, it was a no-brainer. When you go out here and you're looking for funding to go back to college as a 40-year-old man, I got six people in my household. The extra money just doesn't just grow out of trees. For me to be able to be accepted through FAFSA and to have Bishop State pay for all of my tuition, not only that, but the curriculums, you know, they make it so easy to understand on their website. Like I said, I'm a 40-year-old man, so I don't use technology too much, but it was very understandable where I needed to go. It was extremely fast. These past two years, things have just moved in a total different type of way. It's like its own moving entity to see things manifest the way that they do.

00:11:53 - 00:12:01 | Speaker 3:
