This is the Bishop Statement at Bishop State Community College. We want you to hear what our students, educators, and business leaders have to say.

Alan Lee, my major is drafting and design. In high school, I did it since my sophomore year, and I kind of wanted to continue it. It was the only thing I was good at. I didn't want to move to a four-year. I don't think I was mentally prepared. I found Bishop State. They had the program. I met a few people there. I ended up enrolling. The instructor, first I met him, I told him about my background. He said, okay, great, you know about this. He built me straight to work. He didn't let me have any leeway. He pushed me to my limits. So I think that made me choose drafting design at Bishop State and stuck with it. The sport's amazing. All my instructors just want to see me succeed. They want to push me to my limit. They want to see me be the best I can be, get a job, just be as successful as I can be. And I really appreciate all of them. With my degree, as of right now, my plan is to work for the city of Mobile with their urban planning department. this morning. We've been teasing it a little bit, but the mystery of who's drawing the dicks. What's

going on, Shannon? Okay. So all six of us were out the other night and I, that's myself, Wes, and all four of our kids are very blended family. And we're driving in the car. Wes is driving. I'm sitting in the passenger seat the two older kids sam and kieran are in the middle and then my little ones lucy and smith are in the very very back and i notice from the front seat that somebody had drawn a big penis and wrote wes next to it on one of the windows and right off the bat i think it's smith because the kid loves drawing penises and writing naughty words that he has just learned how to spell, okay? But upon questioning all four kids in the car, nobody would fess up to it. Actually, Smith started crying that we kept blaming him. And he's like, it really wasn't me.

I love penises.

So, like, somebody clearly did it. And Wes was really, really upset about it because his name was written next to it, right? Like, if it was just a dick, I don't think it would have mattered as much. Nameless dick. Except that it was, yeah, it was a named dick.

um and so i just was it was it a big or small one because maybe it was the size of the actual

drawing no i mean it like it was like you know in the window oh okay okay so i just wanted somebody to come clean because clearly somebody in that vehicle is lying so we pull up into our drive in our into our driveway we go inside the house and we interrogate them for like a good 20 minutes when we get home and still nobody is confessing to drawing the penis and finally kieran who's in high school fesses up that he's the one that wrote west's name but but wouldn't admit to drawing the penis okay okay so so west is already up in arms about that that kieran drew this um and i don't know like why but i have never in all my years of knowing him seen wes so hot about this like he was mad about this this penis on the window and it got to the point where like i finally gave up interrogating the kids and so did wes but we're laying in bed at night i'm laying in smith's bed like getting him ready for bed and he is still crying that we think it's him And he's like, Mom, I don't even draw penises like that.

And he's like, I draw my penises skinny and long, and that one was short and fat. And I'm like, the fact that he was trying so hard to prove it wasn't him was so funny. But I believed him, because he's like, you know how I draw my penises. Your Honor, my client is innocent. Which is true.

Which is true. And then I was like, and I was still talking about this at night in bed. I'm like, I kind of believe Lucy, because she was on the total opposite end of the car. And I'm like, and then the two older kids, like it would have been a stretch for them. So fast forward to the next day, this, this crime still does not even have a suspect at this point. We don't know who it is. And, um, I go to Jack's car wash to get my car cleaned. And I realized as I'm like using the vacuum and vacuum out my car, that the, the West that Kieran had written was on the inside of the car and the penis was very clearly drawn on the outside of the car. So now I'm like, great. I seriously feel like some kid went around the parking lot where we were the night before, drew a bunch of penises on car windows. Kieran just happened to write Wes and all four kids got blamed for the mystery penises. Penis. It was just one.

Isn't it, by the way, isn't it funny though that kids love drawing?

No, kids. No, no, no, no, no. It's men. It's men. It's boys. Really? Boys and men. Yeah. Why do you love drawing penises?

I don't know.

You're so obsessed with yourselves, it's wild. I don't get it. Yeah. Like, I don't draw boobs. Right.

That's true. Although, I do remember, like, as a kid, you'd draw stick figures, and your stick figures seem so awkward if it didn't have one, right? Again, just boys do that. To prove that it was a male or female stick figure.

Yeah, I never drew a stick figure with boobs. Never.

Yeah, well, you'd draw the penis. That's how you read it.

No, you do a little triangle for the girls. For a skirt, and that's it. And that's it.

Good, good. I'm actually at work right now. But, yeah, I actually had this happen to me when I was a high school senior. A couple kids, they actually was a kid that didn't get along with my younger brother. And so they had this beef, so they would go around drawing these. They called them Gonzo. But, yeah, we basically were trying to figure out what it was. My dad at the time was upset because it was a 2001 Mustang convertible, and he paid for it. And we lived in a small town. So, yeah, come to find out, the only reason we found out who it was is because his girlfriend actually told me that it was him doing it, and he was doing it out of revenge because I was defending my younger brother at the time.

My name is Natarika, Terry LaMille, and my major is general education. Some of the obstacles I have overcame at Bishop State is proving that I can show up consistently, even when my life was heavy. There are moments where I still feel overwhelmed by balancing work, leadership, parenting, and school, but Bishop reminded me that I'm capable of growth and not perfection, that I'm supported as long as I'm committed to being a better person than I was yesterday. My peers can depend on me. I'm there being poured into, but some of those students don't know that the faculty and staff are really there for them. So when they don't know that, I'm their resource that explain and show them that they're here to help us.
