All right, it's Mojo in the morning, Shell. I'm looking out right now. I'm going to paint a picture for you. This is our radio studios here. Beautiful. You've probably seen a picture or two of the new ones. We have a glass window that looks out into our offices, and I'm looking out into the offices right now, and as I am, what am I seeing? Nothing. You are not exaggerating. I'm like looking. There's Mark. There's Mark Makovich. I see Mark. I got his head there and I got nothing else in there.

00:03:07 - 00:03:09 | Speaker 5:

There is not a mother. What are you expecting to see?

00:03:10 - 00:05:01 | Speaker 6:

I don't. Well, here's the thing. Yeah. And I know it's early still, but yesterday I was walking around the office and I'm like, it's a new week. It's like exciting. Okay. We're, you know, everything's good. the uh you know we were broadcasting out of the studio uh last week so we were out for a little bit i'm like i'm looking to see some faces and there's nobody here and i and i'm at a point right now and i and tony's gonna be so mad at me for bringing this up because i text him like 20 times yesterday and i said to tony i go i tony tony i'm tired of this i'm tired of the fact that every single day no matter if it snows if there's ice storms outside if the highway is closed because because of construction like we got with 696 we as a show come in every single day all of us shannon megan kevin lydia bianca zach myself we come in as a show every single day Monday through Friday we'd be here on Saturdays if the show ran on a Saturday or Sunday if it ran on a Sunday sometimes we're in here on the weekends because we got promotions and I look out in this building on Monday through Friday and I occasionally see people here and I don't understand it like I get the idea that we had to work from home for a certain point but now I'm at a point that was five years ago I'm not gonna lie to you I ain't going to start doing the show from down in Tampa The entire time Like I've been doing occasionally A week here, a week there I'm going to go down there Because every day that I work down there There's people in the building And it gives you life when you're on the air To be able to, during a commercial break Go say hi to somebody And I just don't get it I really don't get it I don't understand it Let me ask you this How do you feel about so

00:05:00 - 00:05:08 | Speaker 3:

Say, for example, the response was, I can do my job anywhere. That's why I'm not coming in the office.

00:05:09 - 00:05:24 | Speaker 1:

I have a response to that. I think there is so much more to or there is so much that goes along with doing your job. There is a culture that needs to be had here. And I think you can't have a culture if there's nobody here to create any sort of culture.

00:05:24 - 00:05:45 | Speaker 3:

So say, for example, I'm a sales agent and when it comes time for me to get paid or it comes time to talk about an upgrade in my salary or a bonus, the powers that be not looking at a line item that say culture, they looking at how much dollars I done brought in. Yeah. And regardless if I'm bringing them dollars in here or at home, I understand that.

00:05:45 - 00:07:57 | Speaker 2:

That's what matters. But I understand that, but I think what Shannon is trying to say is I get the whole idea that what you're saying, it's about how much, if they're still bringing in the money, if the ratings are still good, and all the rest of this stuff. Here's the deal. If this radio show was us broadcasting from our homes or broadcasting from another place and it stayed consistent that way, you'd feel it. You'd feel it on the air. i do believe that there are people that probably do great working by themselves but the problem is i don't do great working by myself and if you want to help me keep motivated and keep you and be able to make you more money and you get advertisers more money i need you i want you i want to see you ideas come from passing people in hallways and i in shannon culture is everything to me You see championship teams have culture, right? There's certain teams that don't even talk to each other and they play games. They're not going to win championships. The teams like the Pistons right now, those guys have a culture going on. Those players all are buds. They're all hanging out with each other. Very true. So here's my thing, and I shouldn't even bring this thing up. I know Tony's going to get pissed at me. He'll probably be on the gas. He's going to text me and he's going to say to me, why are you doing this? You know what? I feel like I'm one of the leaders around here, okay? And as one of the leaders, one of the things I'm saying to you is I've gone into other radio studios, Tampa specifically. When I am down there in Tampa, I feel better about continuing to do this job and enjoying this job. When I come to Detroit, I get depressed as heft because I come, I drive, my drive went from 14 minutes to now 55 minutes. And I come down here and I got nobody here at least two out of the five days a week that we're doing a show. And I know that that's a lot of cases for a lot of people. I'm saying this not just to iHeart. I'm saying this to Blue Cross Blue Shield, Rock Financial, the city of Detroit, whoever it is. We're now in your city, and I don't see any of you. Businesses aren't even open on a Monday, for God's sakes. Restaurants don't even open up for lunch.

00:07:57 - 00:07:58 | Speaker 1:

Restaurants aren't open on Mondays anymore.

00:07:58 - 00:08:14 | Speaker 2:

And it's gotten to a point now where I'm thinking to myself, all right, guys, if that's the case, then you know what? I'm staying in Oakland County I'm going to be staying out there in West Bloomfield Where at least I know I can see some people Because you know what they're all walking their dogs Because they're all home I don't know

00:08:14 - 00:08:41 | Speaker 3:

I feel like honestly it's going to get worse Before it gets better Especially when you infuse technology into it And you got like if you was watching The Tesla I don't know what Elon calls his State of the Unions Where they talk about what's coming next But a couple of months ago you're going to have taxi cabs with no drivers in them they already are doing that over in los angeles like that's gonna be the wave of the future and you know i don't see people we're gonna have ai dj in the morning here

00:08:41 - 00:08:44 | Speaker 2:

because i gotta be honest with you i don't know yeah because look some of these some of these

00:08:44 - 00:08:50 | Speaker 3:

companies realize that they're spending too much money on lights and snacks and bills when they can

00:08:50 - 00:09:36 | Speaker 2:

get the same production but i people working but i don't think it's always just the company i think it's the people that work for the company that you know decide i'm not a work from homer we never were during covid we all came in here we we actually as a show everybody that was on the show during in 2020 wanted to be here in studio because you know what we all felt felt like we could not fake it from our houses the vibe is so different on the show when yeah like somebody's broadcasting from home and you know what it really is the people that text and say mojo you sound old okay then that's fine but you know what this old man's gonna do this old man's not going to do this anymore because I got to be quite honest with you it's gotten to a point now where I still love what I do for a living I'm not loving it by by the way that we're doing it right

00:09:36 - 00:10:05 | Speaker 1:

now it has been so interesting to watch Wes and I've said this to you Mojo he had a job for years and years where he was in an office they had a huge office of company he worked for in Troy with all the the fun amenities Kev like the massage chairs and the snack kitchen and they would always like do food trucks and parties and whatever and then that went away and he worked from home up until January and now that he is in an office again that has a really fun company culture His mood when he comes home, it's crazy how drastic it is to me. Different and positive. It does.

00:10:06 - 00:10:08 | Speaker 3:

Angela, what's up? It's Mojo in the morning. Hi.

00:10:09 - 00:10:11 | Speaker 6:

Good morning, everybody. How are you? Good morning.

00:10:11 - 00:10:16 | Speaker 3:

Doing okay, Angela. I'm hoping that in a couple minutes I might see a body walk through the door.

00:10:17 - 00:10:35 | Speaker 6:

Maybe. I mean, I'm a little down the street from you guys, but I've gone downtown and worked. I work in Corktown for nine years. And I promise you, ever since people started coming back to the office after COVID and after this and that, Mondays and Fridays, that traffic is nothing going home and coming in.

00:10:35 - 00:10:38 | Speaker 3:

Everybody's taking four-day weekends, right?

00:10:38 - 00:11:10 | Speaker 6:

Wouldn't it be nice, right? I know. We all did. I work at the dental school. So we thought we would not shut down. We have a whole clinic, even the administration. We were there for a little bit longer. And then, yeah, we did our jobs from home. So we know we can do them. But we're not allowed to do that anymore. and it's kind of frustrating because we know we can do our jobs from home and if we want to have a remote day they won't let us take a monday or a friday wow baffling to me yeah i i i'll tell you

00:11:10 - 00:11:24 | Speaker 3:

this by the way hats off to you for continuing to to go in there and do it every single day and and continuing to get get out there um maybe what we need to do is the people that are going to work maybe we all need to have like a book club or something we all need to get together

00:11:24 - 00:11:34 | Speaker 1:

we should open up the garage doors here at iheart and everybody can just come and have lunch here and hang out bring your lunch and just at least yeah say hi if this is the case if this was the

00:11:34 - 00:11:46 | Speaker 3:

case we could have done this same exact thing but done it in farmington hills at half the size of the building right uh i wouldn't have had to drive uh an hour to work every day what's up uh initial Ask your voice disguised.

00:11:47 - 00:12:15 | Speaker 4:

Yeah, hi. I just wanted to say that I actually agree with you, Mojo. So I work at Rocket Mortgage, and, you know, Rocket Mortgage employees, you know, thousands of people in the city of Detroit downtown. And two days a week, Mondays and Fridays, they made it so that we work at home. That's thousands of people in the heart of Detroit that are not in the city two days a week, you know. So you're right. It does kind of change the vibe.

00:12:16 - 00:12:29 | Speaker 3:

How do you explain that to the guy that owns the restaurant that's right there that has to pay his bills for 31 days out of the month knowing that there's a few days where nobody's going to be there? I don't know how that guy pays his bills still.

00:12:29 - 00:12:33 | Speaker 4:

Listen, Tommy loves us, but I get it.

00:12:33 - 00:12:52 | Speaker 3:

Yeah. No, that's the thing I'm thinking about. I'm thinking about morale. Like yesterday, we had a great show yesterday. It was an amazing show. We had great listeners calling in. There was a lot of stuff going on, a lot of action. Everything was good. And then you get off the air, and I'm like, I might as well go home. There's nothing going on around here.

00:12:52 - 00:12:53 | Speaker 1:

We do. We all just go home.

00:12:54 - 00:12:55 | Speaker 3:

What's up, Christy? Hi.

00:12:57 - 00:12:58 | Speaker 1:

Hey, can you guys hear me?

00:12:58 - 00:13:02 | Speaker 3:

Yes, I got you, Christy. Loud and clear. Where are you from right now?

00:13:03 - 00:13:05 | Speaker 5:

It's Christine. Oh, Christine. I'm actually in Georgia.

00:13:06 - 00:13:09 | Speaker 3:

Okay. Oh, okay. What's going on? How is it in Georgia? Are people showing up for work?

00:13:09 - 00:14:40 | Speaker 5:

well we just we actually just came back to the building so our building caught on fire last year and so we were remote for an entire year and that was the best time i mean for my mental health it was great i had slow mornings where i can wake up slow start my work i didn't have to you know put fit in the routine of you know fighting traffic and getting ready and so being back in the office now is just it's an adjustment yeah but I mean there is a culture that I think is more it's fake being at an office you know you're putting on you're putting on you know a personality or a smile to talk with someone that you know you're just it's only about work you know and and I just don't feel like I'm building with people I don't know maybe I'm anti-social or whatever but um you know for me it's i'm at work i have to put on a face i have to communicate with these folks and they are my co-workers at the end of the day is there respect absolutely but when i leave out the door i'm not caring about you know building this culture am i a teammate sure you know i'm doing what i gotta do but you say at the same time she there for the bag bro she's not period I'm there to get my money I respect you, you respect me and I'm going to do my job however, when I walk out these doors I'm done

00:14:40 - 00:14:51 | Speaker 2:

I feel you I done been fired from places these companies will suck you dry until they ain't got no more of you and then they'll dump your ass so why do I need to show up? I understand that perspective can I say this though, Christine?

00:14:52 - 00:15:00 | Speaker 3:

not everybody has family and not everybody has friends their work is their social and there's a lot of people that

00:15:00 - 00:15:13 | Speaker 1:

that this is their way to be able to see another human being. And that's, I think, one of the things that we've been faced with when we're all at home. There are some people that are at home and don't see anybody. They've got their cat or their dog, and that's pretty much it. And I think that for some people, this is not...

00:15:13 - 00:15:15 | Speaker 3:

I'm laughing because that's like me.

00:15:15 - 00:15:27 | Speaker 1:

Well, and you enjoy that, but there are some people that I think it causes anxiety. The other thing, too, is how are we going to ever have inter-office romances if we don't have people in the goddamn office?

00:15:27 - 00:15:30 | Speaker 2:

That's what the holiday party is for. There's that right thing.

00:15:30 - 00:15:36 | Speaker 1:

We don't even have holiday parties. We don't even have holiday parties. You know, we got basically a potlucks.

00:15:37 - 00:15:52 | Speaker 5:

Wait, Mojo, where were we recently? This also lends itself to, where were we? And you were like, oh, who are you? Do you work for the... And then you were like, wait, the girl said she worked for iHeart. I can't remember where we were. Yeah, she actually worked for us. But we don't see anybody. We've never seen her before. Yeah, it's so crazy.

00:15:52 - 00:15:54 | Speaker 1:

What's up, Ron? Hi, it's Mojo in the morning.

00:15:56 - 00:16:12 | Speaker 4:

Hey, I was calling in. Mike, I had a perspective for you. And my question was, is what's the difference between when you go to Florida and you are always remote doing it? You've done it like, what, six or seven times in the last three months, probably, than when you are in studio with everybody else?

00:16:12 - 00:16:39 | Speaker 1:

Well, it's what I said. It's what I said. I said, I'd rather be down there because there's people that are walking in and out of their offices. And I agree. Listen, I could be down there if I wanted to. And I could be consistently from December till the last snowflake falls on the ground. I can't do that. Our show would suffer if I'm always there. And I'm going to tell you this, but Ron, I found myself liking being down there because I see people.

00:16:41 - 00:16:59 | Speaker 4:

Oh, no, I completely understand. I'm more of a social butterfly. I like to be in a setting. That's why I own a business and do things and go out and see a bunch of different people every day. But I guess they make technology with your on FaceTime. You guys can. Right. I was going to say, we can see him. Everybody can see, everybody can see.

00:16:59 - 00:16:59 | Speaker 5:

Yeah.

00:17:00 - 00:18:11 | Speaker 1:

But here's also another problem, too, is I just think for us as a radio station, and I'm not – some businesses, some work, you don't need to be around people. I think for us, though, I think what we lack here is we lack the, hey, we're thinking about putting a promotion together. Can we do this? Now what we do is we send 8,000 emails, and there's an email chain where I got to go back and go, the first one was sent like a month ago? Like there's like there's a what is it like the email snake that we have here where I'm like, I don't even know where it started. You know what I mean? Like we're going back and forth where if we're in front of each other, we can go, hey, man, got you a second. I want to bring something up to you. I mean, that's honestly breast Christmas ever was a promotion we did back in the day. You know where that promotion came about? Not in a conference room. It came about outside the studio doors of Channel 955 when we were standing out there in front of, I think, Angel, who was the sales rep for Dr. Gray. And it was like, hey, would he ever give away some boobs? We should do this thing. We got this idea for Breast Christmas Ever. And it was like the contest like that, that's how things happen.

00:18:11 - 00:18:30 | Speaker 2:

I feel like this world is driven on incentives. what are you incentivized to do determines what your output is and when companies started realizing that when you talk about culture the mental health of people had enhanced and the production didn't decline it wasn't a rush to get people back into the office but they're saving bread you truly

00:18:30 - 00:18:34 | Speaker 1:

believe people's mental health is better right now than it was five years ago like like i don't

00:18:34 - 00:18:48 | Speaker 2:

think i ain't gotta listen i ain't gotta wake up in the morning you just complained about going from 14 minutes to 55 you don't gotta spend that money on gas you don't gotta spend that money on traffic maybe get in an accident, you're chilling at the crib, you can make your Pop-Tarts, have your TV on in the back and do your thing without having to see anybody.

00:18:49 - 00:18:59 | Speaker 1:

But I think that we've got more mental health problems right now than we did before. I really do. Jessica, what's up? It's Mojo in the morning.

00:19:00 - 00:19:05 | Speaker 3:

First and foremost, long time, long time, but this is my first time with Kev.

00:19:05 - 00:19:07 | Speaker 4:

Hey, Jessica on the phone.

00:19:08 - 00:19:09 | Unknown:

I like that.

00:19:09 - 00:19:35 | Speaker 3:

now mojo you're annoying me and i'll tell you why okay the child care is too damn high i am a work from home stay at home mom if i have to go in the office then i might as well not have a job because all my paycheck would go to child care no that is so don't be pushing this agenda to put us back in the office because the last thing i need is for my employer to hear this and get some crazy ideas

00:19:35 - 00:19:39 | Speaker 1:

how about this you bring your kid with you it's another person i can look at and talk to

00:19:39 - 00:19:49 | Speaker 3:

no let me tell you this you want to talk about morale try having a one-year-old and a three-year-old crawling all over you while you're trying to work oh i don't know how you do it very low yeah

00:19:49 - 00:19:54 | Speaker 1:

yeah well but i will say this to you jessica there are times where it's nice to get away

00:19:54 - 00:19:59 | Speaker 3:

from them isn't it heck yeah i had to go into the office to get a new computer and i said i'm about

00:20:00 - 00:20:06 | Speaker 1:

We're just post-op, stay in this quiet-ass office, not worry about the kids. What did I tell you? It was nice. Meet next 15 times a day.

00:20:07 - 00:20:31 | Speaker 3:

It was nice. It was nice to do that every now and again. All right, well, here's the deal. If you can't beat them, join them. This radio show is only going to be three days a week. We're going to go Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, because it sounds to me like everybody's off Mondays and Fridays. Thoughts? Let's take a vote. As long as the chick don't change. Let's take a vote. I'm right there. Come on. You've got to vote on this one. Every vote counts on this.

00:20:32 - 00:21:00 | Speaker 4:
