I know some people I talk to in the business that are just frustrated. These people work for Odyssey. I guarantee it. Audacity. I've worked for other people that I could see why this would be on this list.

Well, and I think a lot of the jobs on there were physically demanding. I think our job is very emotionally demanding, and people don't realize it.

But definitely we're, you know, more responsibilities these days than ever before, too.

Hi. Well, actually, I called my...

Oh, I'm sorry. I said I called about my current job, which I'm an STNA, But I did work as a corrections officer before, too, at a juvenile detention center. And I can tell you that is a horribly depressing job.

Are they underpaid there as correctional facility workers?

You what?

Are correctional workers, are they, like, underpaid?

Oh, absolutely. And, like, so as a, when I was a corrections officer, I was a juvenile one. So I worked in the JVC. And, like, if the kid, like, they would make you dock these They have a point system And they would make you give these kids points and dock them And for stupid stuff, like not having their pants cuffed at the bottom If they were sitting in class and their feet weren't completely on their desk And, like, it was really petty stuff that they wanted you to just be all over

It's like you're antagonizing these kids, right?

Yes, and it's like, just leave them alone Half of these kids are coming from a rough spot anyways, like, just chill, you know? It was horrible, and they're not nice to their employees. It was a very bad job.

Oh, I'm sorry. Yeah, I didn't get your current one. You actually were talking about your last one. What's your current one?

I'm an STNA, a state-tested nurse's aide, so I'm a caregiver. I work under the nurses in the nursing home. I'm the one providing, like, the patient care.

Is that a good job or a bad job?

I get paid very well doing what I do because I work through an agency, so I'm an independent contractor. But a lot of places don't pay very well. It's very demanding.

Okay.

We work 12, a lot of people work 12, 16 hours, and you don't even get breaks half the time. You're just not guaranteed to eat all day long. Wow. And, like, you have people's lives in your hands.

I would think anything in the health care is tough these days.

It's just so demeaning with COVID and everything. It's been really hard on everybody. And you don't get the time to give the proper care like you want to give to these people because we're so under a time budget that doesn't work for what we have to do. We're always understaffed.

Listen, Katie, I've got to move to the next call. Otherwise, you're going to be the only occupation that I'm going to be talking to. Thank you. I appreciate it. Blair also wants to say corrections officers because your husband is a correction officer, Blair?

Yeah, my husband, my father-in-law, and my father-in-law's wife are all corrections officers.

Is it tough on the spouses, too?

Oh, yeah. It's very tough on the spouses. Corrections officers get mandated a lot, so he'll go to work. He works 2 to 10. Sometimes he'll work 2 p.m. to 6 a.m. Because he gets mandated

Do you worry about him leaving And possibly something bad happening To any movie I see I saw that movie with Nicolas Cage Is it like that?

It's funny because watching any prison shows Or anything with him He's like no that's not real He'll shut everything down Is there not a risk of them escaping? Oh, there's always a risk. There's always a risk. They just have to be able to do their job as corrections officers and make sure that these prisoners aren't, you know, planning anything. So whenever they see them even passing notes, they have to take the notes from them.

Wow. I like that you went off Con Air. I did. Dina, this is an interesting one. You say one of the worst jobs. What is that?

A 911 dispatcher. Yes. High stress? High stress. I feel like technology has made people super lazy. It is also a rewarding job, don't get me wrong. I love helping people, but definitely an unappreciated job for sure.

And you're going to be called out if you do even the slightest thing wrong because you've got people's lives, you know.

I'll admit, it hasn't been that bad recently during the current, you know, Secretary of State that took office, but for her second term as well, she's made a lot of good changes, but there are days, man, where I just want to cuss somebody out really bad. Yeah.

I wondered if all you guys, Because everybody was wearing masks that work behind the counter. I wonder if you guys are wearing masks because you're mandated to or because you don't want people to see your frowns on your faces.

Oh, because I don't want you to hear what I'm saying behind my mask. I knew it.

I knew it had to be that.

What about the people you see out, the portable toilet cleaners, the guys with the big vacuum that have to clean out the porta-potties?

I couldn't imagine that.

Like, I see them, and I'm like, how did you get into that? Nobody probably chose that job. like went to school for that job, right? I don't know what they get. Maybe they get paid really well. We don't know. But you've got to take that hose in and suck out the poop.

What do you do when it's frozen poop on a day like today? Becky.

Tax professionals.

Oh, yeah. Your hours are crazy, aren't they?

January 1st to April 18th is stress every single year. And the past couple years have been the worst because we've had to deal with the stimulus checks and the child tax credits, all the different changes. Hopefully this year we're a little bit back to normal, but, man, the last couple years have been crazy.

Yeah, I can only imagine. This is a wild job. I've seen this in the movies, too. Kyle? Yes. What's your job?

I'm an armored truck driver.

That's got to be a risky job, huh? Are you the guy that drives the truck or the guy that actually has to bring the packages in and out of the stores with the money?

I'm both. I'm a driver and a messenger.

You guys ever get robbed?

I actually have been shot four times. Oh, my gosh.

Wow.

See, I was thinking, well, people won't mess with you because they know you guys have that whole thing on lockdown, but they're trying.

And you still work there?

Yes.

Is the pay good? I've been doing it for five years. Is the pay really good? It is actually, yeah, it's decent, but it should be up a little bit more.

Have you ever been tempted to rob the truck and to go on the run with it?

No, because I will warn you right now, because somebody has tried that, and all the money is actually marked.

Oh, okay. Can I tell you, though, somebody stole my lunch the other day, and I was ready to quit.

So, my wife is a barista, and it's pretty rough. Like, people don't understand, but it can be pretty nasty, especially when someone's ordering a hot drink in a tall plastic cup, and you can't tell them it's not going to work, you know. And it gets pretty rough, especially when people want a hot chocolate in a thin plastic cup these days.

Well, I know these guys don't want to deal with me before I've had my coffee, and your wife's dealing with everybody before they had their coffee.

Yeah, and she opens like at 6.30 in the morning, so you have the regulars, which are fine, but then you get someone who's going to ask, oh, what's this, what's that? Can I do this with half of that and put little steamed milk in this, but I want the oat milk. And it just, the list continues. The problem is then I have to hear all this for Nick.

So then technically, who has the worst job, your wife or you as her husband?

Well, I feel bad for her, but, you know, I hope, like, people just become a little considerate of, like, stewardship.

In any of the service industry, people are just total jerkholes, you know?
