This is the Bishop Statement at Bishop State Community College. We want you to hear what our students, educators, and business leaders have to say.

00:01:07 - 00:01:52 | Speaker 5:

My name is Patrick Pettway, and I am getting my Associates of Science and General Education with an emphasis in business administration. To me, it was a no-brainer. When you go out here and you're looking for funding to go back to college as a 40-year-old man, I got six people in my household. The extra money just doesn't just grow out of trees. for me to be able to be accepted through FAFSA and to have Bishop State pay for all of my tuition. Not only that, but the curriculums, you know, they make it so easy to understand on their website. Like I said, I'm a 40-year-old man, so I don't use technology too much, but it was very understandable where I needed to go. It was extremely fast. These past two years, things have just moved in a total different type of way. It's like its own moving entity to see things manifest the way that they do.

00:02:00 - 00:02:09 | Speaker 3:

All right, Mojo on the morning show. We were talking music here, and Kevin, you had something that happened yesterday when you were hanging out in the sales department with a legend.

00:02:10 - 00:02:30 | Speaker 4:

Yes, the legend that is Lee Robinson. Oh, he is a legend. Big shout-out to Lee. Big legend in the building. Legend and iHeart, just legendary in life. So Lee and I, Lee is an older gentleman, for those who don't know. He an OG. He wears the Kango-type hats. You know what I'm saying? I don't know what they call them, but you know which ones I'm talking about. They call them like pear hats. I want to say something like that. My bad, Lee.

00:02:30 - 00:02:33 | Speaker 3:

Have you ever been to that hat store that's right down the street?

00:02:33 - 00:04:17 | Speaker 4:

Henry the Hatter? Henry the Hatter in Eastern Market House. Yeah, big shout out to Henry the Hatter. I want to say pear hats. That's going to bug me. I'll figure that out later. But anyway, so Lee and I have a love for old school R&B. We're talking 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s. So from time to time, we'll send each other songs or we'll just play them in the sales area. So yesterday, I'm in the OJ's bag. Big shout out to the OJs. Most, I would say, know them from their Smile in Your Face all the time on Take Your Place, the backstabbers. So, smile in your face. You heard that song? That's the OJs. So, they got another song that I love called Stairway to Heaven. And they'd be like, Stairway to Heaven, step by step. Do you Google this? It's a beautiful record. So, I come out of the studio, and I'm playing that song on my phone. And I'm like, Lee, what are we talking about, Lee? What are we talking about, Lee? And then he catches on. And he starts singing, oh, that's Stairway to Heaven. And I'm like, man, I love this song. It's such a good gospel song. Matter of fact, when I die, I want the pallbearers to walk me out of the church to this song. Stairway to heaven and you're going to take this step by step. He like, you know, that's not a gospel song, right? Oh, let it just ride. This don't hit your soul. You don't got one. So Lee's like, you know, it's not a gospel song. He said, you know, it's not a gospel song, right? It's a sex song. They talking about having sex. that's what they're climbing, the stairway to, like, an orgasm. No. That's the heaven that they're talking about. My mind was completely blown. I had no idea. I'm thinking this is a church song. This gives you church vibes. Stairway to heaven. Don't you want to go? Then I started laughing. Don't you want to go? I'm like, wow. Did you think, like, Lollipop was just about candy? That's so funny.

00:04:17 - 00:04:29 | Speaker 3:

No. You know what it is, though? Megan, the songs, like, from this past, like, these songs, that Kev's talking about right here. Like, these songs here were not as blatant as, like, Lollipop was.

00:04:29 - 00:04:31 | Speaker 6:

Yeah, it's like your face like that.

00:04:31 - 00:04:35 | Speaker 3:

Like, Lollipop, you knew right off the bat. It was like, he's licking a lollipop.

00:04:35 - 00:04:42 | Speaker 6:

And don't you think that everybody in the olden days was just squeaky clean and so innocent? Like, they were writing and singing songs about sex? No, they were awful.

00:04:44 - 00:05:00 | Speaker 3:

Chelsea and I talk about this all the time. Chelsea was the biggest George Michael fan growing up, my wife. And she was like, I never knew his songs were about sex. I'm like, this song was called I Want Your Sex. and she's like no she goes I know but it was I never thought of it was about sex right then we start

00:05:00 - 00:05:27 | Speaker 4:

I started to have a conversation where somebody else from sales chomped in and was like, you know, reasons from Earth, Wind and Fire is about a guy having sex with a girl and then not having a reason for her to stay around. Like the reasons that we're here. Yeah. Reasons. Like, yes, like leaving after the love games have been played. You know what I'm saying? That is wild. No reason. My mind is just blown on these songs. So I don't think I can be walked out of the church to this anymore.

00:05:28 - 00:05:41 | Speaker 3:

I don't know. You know what it is, Wild? They did a better job, they did a much better job back in the day, like when our parents were listening to music, of being sexual and naughty, but not having it be so blatant that it would hit you in the face, you know?

00:05:41 - 00:05:41 | Unknown:

Yeah, yeah.

00:05:42 - 00:05:43 | Speaker 4:

The artists nowadays.

00:05:43 - 00:06:14 | Speaker 3:

Are there any songs that you did not realize were, you know, songs that were considered sex songs, and you're like listening to them, cranking them with your kids in the car? 844-MOJO-LIVE 844-665-6548 is our telephone number because I will tell you that there are sometimes where you hear a song and you're like I didn't realize doing it in the butt means that, you know I mean, that's the song, doing the butt that's what it's called doing the butt

00:06:14 - 00:06:24 | Speaker 4:

wait, is that really a song? I thought you guys were joking no, that's a banger you put that on at the cookout, everybody dancing

00:06:24 - 00:06:43 | Speaker 3:

exactly E-U-D-B-U-T. That's the song. Who would have thought that they were talking about what I think they were talking about? Texter here right now goes, Kevin, I love you. You have the widest range of musical taste of anybody on your radio show.

00:06:43 - 00:06:44 | Speaker 4:

I appreciate that, man.

00:06:45 - 00:06:52 | Speaker 3:

What are you talking about? I think my musical taste, Stevie B. I like Stevie B.

00:06:52 - 00:06:54 | Speaker 6:

We don't talk about our musical taste a lot.

00:06:54 - 00:07:03 | Speaker 3:

No. You have an eclectic one because you like, I mean, I never knew how much of a Phil Collins fan you were until you would randomly.

00:07:03 - 00:07:08 | Speaker 1:

I don't know if I'm a Phil Collins fan or if I was just raised in the Phil Collins world.

00:07:08 - 00:07:21 | Speaker 3:

But there are some songs, though, that I'll put on and I'm going, oh, Megan, man, she's young and she likes this song. I like that. Christy, what's up, Christy? How you doing? It's Mojo in the Morning Show. What's going on?

00:07:22 - 00:07:46 | Speaker 2:

Hi, guys. I'm just commenting about Puff the Magic Dragon. I didn't know it was about, you know, smoking until I watched Meet the Fockers. Yes. Is it though? Or didn't they just say, like, no. It is, right? It is, you guys.

00:07:47 - 00:07:47 | Speaker 5:

Huh?

00:07:48 - 00:07:48 | Speaker 3:

Yeah.

00:07:48 - 00:07:52 | Speaker 5:

I don't know. Sometimes I think some of them then are, like, made up to, you know what I mean?

00:07:52 - 00:07:57 | Speaker 3:

I think all the songs from back then were all about weed, weren't they? Or some kind of LSD or something?

00:07:57 - 00:08:22 | Speaker 6:

Well, was it Ring Around the Rosie, like, a horrible, horrible song? It's about leprosy. Was it really? Yeah, like, there are a lot of kids' songs that are not... All of them are. Not even close to being appropriate. Every kid's song is rooted in either racism or, like, a horrible death tragedy. They're all horrible. Really? Yes. I thought Ring Around the Rosie was, like, about the... Yeah, like the plague. Yeah. Eeny, meeny, miny, moe is like super racist.

00:08:23 - 00:08:24 | Speaker 3:

Yeah.

00:08:25 - 00:08:28 | Speaker 6:

Yeah. What about Skinny, Marnie, Marnie, Marnie? I hope not.

00:08:28 - 00:08:36 | Speaker 3:

Thomas brings up one. Let me grab Thomas real quick because you'll be shocked by this one. I never knew this. Thomas, are you there? Yes, sir.

00:08:36 - 00:08:37 | Speaker 4:

I'm here. What's going on, guys?

00:08:37 - 00:08:47 | Speaker 3:

Happy Friday. Happy Friday. Happy Friday. What's going on, Thomas? The electric slide has been rumored to be a song about a vibrator.

00:08:47 - 00:08:50 | Speaker 5:

What? Come on, see, that's why I feel like you're making this up. To the Googles, bro.

00:08:51 - 00:08:53 | Speaker 4:

That's true. I swear to the Lord.

00:08:54 - 00:09:04 | Speaker 3:

Oh, Lord. Oh, that's so funny. The song that we see our aunts dancing to at weddings is about a vibrator? I guess so.

00:09:04 - 00:09:07 | Speaker 1:

I feel like that's something a drunk dad says.

00:09:08 - 00:09:09 | Speaker 4:

Whoa.

00:09:10 - 00:09:12 | Speaker 7:

You gotta feel it.

00:09:12 - 00:09:13 | Unknown:

It's on.

00:09:15 - 00:09:28 | Speaker 7:

Ooh, it's shaking. Okay, so on Reddit, somebody said that the songwriter did explain at one point that it was a song about how his girlfriend had dumped him for a sex toy that she called the electric slide.

00:09:29 - 00:09:30 | Speaker 3:

Yo. Wow.

00:09:31 - 00:09:35 | Speaker 7:

No way. I don't know if I believe that. Not on Reddit. The lyrics are there.

00:09:41 - 00:09:52 | Speaker 3:

Wow, the proof. Don't be saying that. thank you for the call buddy I appreciate it texter just texted in and said that they would sing really loud Watermelon Sugar

00:09:52 - 00:09:54 | Speaker 2:

00:09:54 - 00:09:57 | Speaker 3:

00:09:57 - 00:09:58 | Speaker 2:

00:09:58 - 00:10:00 | Speaker 7:

00:10:53 - 00:11:01 | Speaker 5:

was a big song on this radio station, you're just singing along to it. Now as a grown woman, you know what's going on, don't you?

00:11:02 - 00:11:03 | Speaker 4:

Unfortunately.

00:11:04 - 00:11:09 | Speaker 5:

Yeah. How about the electric slide? Did you know what the electric slide was about? Honestly, that blew my mind.

00:11:12 - 00:11:16 | Speaker 4:

It's crazy how that happens. When you actually pay attention to it.

00:11:16 - 00:11:18 | Speaker 5:

Yeah. This was a good song by Usher.

00:11:19 - 00:11:22 | Speaker 7:

See, I never, ever pay attention to lyrics.

00:11:23 - 00:11:45 | Speaker 5:

Yeah, hold on here, turn it up, let me hear. Yeah, I guess. You know what's going on. Oh, there you go.

00:11:45 - 00:11:49 | Speaker 7:

How do you not know that this is a dirty song? Yeah. Okay, this one's pretty obvious to me.

00:11:49 - 00:12:08 | Speaker 5:

But I guess when you're a teenager, though, you don't think that, right? No, that's all you think. Really? God, people are talking about even like some of the old songs that Cyndi Lauper did back in the day. Amanda, are you there, Amanda? Hey, Amanda.

00:12:09 - 00:12:09 | Speaker 2:

Hello?

00:12:10 - 00:12:16 | Speaker 5:

Hey, the song Girls Just Want to Have Fun is not about girls wanting to have a lesbian fun time. No, no, no. Right?

00:12:16 - 00:12:20 | Speaker 2:

No, it's Shebop by Cyndi Lauper. I've never heard of that.

00:12:20 - 00:12:21 | Speaker 5:

What is that song about?

00:12:22 - 00:12:23 | Speaker 2:

She-bop?

00:12:23 - 00:12:25 | Speaker 5:

Yeah. What is the song about?

00:12:26 - 00:12:27 | Speaker 2:

It's about masturbation.

00:12:28 - 00:12:29 | Speaker 5:

It is?

00:12:29 - 00:12:30 | Speaker 2:

It is.

00:12:30 - 00:12:32 | Speaker 5:

I don't remember that song either.

00:12:33 - 00:12:37 | Speaker 2:

It's like 1980-something, her original song. Yeah.

00:12:37 - 00:12:40 | Speaker 5:

Let's listen to a masturbation song.

00:12:41 - 00:12:41 | Unknown:

Yeah.

00:12:51 - 00:13:12 | Speaker 6:

Oh, look at that.

00:13:12 - 00:13:15 | Speaker 5:

All right. Let's all masturbate together. Listen to that song.

00:13:15 - 00:13:19 | Speaker 2:

One pop-up video for that tidbit. Oh, really? Did they say it on that video?

00:13:19 - 00:13:20 | Speaker 5:

That was a great show.

00:13:20 - 00:13:27 | Speaker 2:

And first time, if I can say that. Hey, vibrator on the phone.

00:13:28 - 00:13:30 | Speaker 5:

No, it's not vibrator on the phone.

00:13:30 - 00:13:38 | Speaker 2:

Can I please, I am waiting right now for my daughter to get out of school. And we listen to you guys every morning. Can I shout out Sophia?

00:13:39 - 00:13:39 | Unknown:

Yeah.

00:13:39 - 00:13:44 | Speaker 5:

Not after you're talking about what you're talking about. Perfect timing. Don't play her this audio.

00:13:45 - 00:13:50 | Speaker 2:

I know, I'm so screwed up. But come on. Take what you can get, right? All right.

00:13:50 - 00:13:55 | Speaker 5:

She's going to go to school at 10 a.m.? It's an early release day, I guess, huh?

00:13:55 - 00:13:56 | Speaker 7:

That's insane.

00:13:56 - 00:14:09 | Speaker 5:

What's going on? Last call here from Danielle. What's up, Danielle? Oh, no. You've got kids in the car. You can't call us up with you. Let her go. Why not? She called. What song, Danielle?

00:14:11 - 00:14:20 | Speaker 3:

So I grew up with older sisters in the 90s and Peaches and Cream. You know, in your middle school, you're not thinking about what that song's about. Hey.

00:14:22 - 00:14:24 | Speaker 5:

How old is the kid that's in your car right now?

00:14:25 - 00:14:33 | Speaker 3:

The radio's down. The radio's down. Okay. I'm right. Realizing what that's about growing up.

00:14:34 - 00:14:38 | Speaker 5:

If they saw the video, you could tell from the video. It is such a good song.

00:14:41 - 00:14:46 | Speaker 3:

That's right. A little pop-up video on TV, VH1. Dude, they need to bring that back.
