whole nother conversation that i don't even feel like getting into i hate this idea that we're like just renting our technology all the time but the companies i created have control over whether i mean i think apple and the iphones were some of the early examples of that like and even like we with ebooks that was a thing in the early days just kind of like this idea that like getting used to the fact that you could buy quote unquote buy an ebook but amazon could still like change it on you you know like it could just like take something out of it like take something out of the text like that's all i've still as an old i'm still not 100 comfortable with that and when it comes to like hey i bought a robot dog it wasn't cheap it should be mine now keep your damn hands off it by the way i did want to mention though do you know that i used to control uh strange robots from across the internet, because I did, there, and I want to talk very carefully here, because what I'm going to say is going to make me sound like a creeper, and I, in all earnestness, promise you that there was nothing, as far as I know, illegal or creepy going on on the subreddit, but there was a subreddit that I used to go to sometimes, and I can't remember what it was called, But essentially, it had all kinds of like public security cams and whatnot that you could look at. But these were controllable. So this was kind of an early Internet thing, too. I remember like when the Internet was new, it was like, hey, look, you can go to you can check out the penguin exhibit at the Boston Zoo right now because they have this thing set up and it's official. Right. But then you get into some more gray area where people weren't locking down their security cameras. so they might not know it like some you know somebody who has a restaurant on a boardwalk somewhere i feel like that's a very that was a very typical one like you would like look out at the sea but these were controllable webcams so you could like you click a link and they say hey this is the um i don't know this is the jersey shore or or often this is a this is an intersection in russia right and then you would click the link and then you would see what you could see but there would be little up down left right arrows and you could then move around and somehow that was really cool to me like this idea that here I am across the world and it is nighttime at this lonely street crossing in Russia but here I am pushing these buttons and across the world a little camera is making this noise as it pans right like there was something really cool about that And in this web forum, there was also, I believe, just one user who had this set up, but it was some robotics person who, as a kind of social experiment, built a bunch of robots with cameras on them and just left them around their house. Now, they blocked off certain areas of their house, but it was like their house. You could sometimes hear the TV coming from the other room as you would, wait, hold on, that might be a lie.
