Shall we play a game? Come on, honey, let's play the magic game.

00:00:14 - 00:00:49 | Speaker 2:

Oh my goodness gracious. The soulful sounds of Otis Redding around this time of year can only mean one thing, my friends, and that is that we are once again embarking on the TBTL Summer Games. My name is Luke Burbank. I'll be one of the competitors in this fierce competition that I think will probably rank up near the top of the list along with the Olympics of summer competitions. And right over there is my friend Andrew Walsh, who I think, how many gold medals did you win during the last summer games? I think it was like nine, right? You beat Michael Phelps' record?

00:00:50 - 00:01:49 | Speaker 1:

No, I came very close. I only got to eight. So, yeah, it was a shame. In fact, I don't even quite get that because I don't watch the Olympics. Now, I don't hate the Olympics. I live with someone. I won't name her, but I live with someone who actively hates the Olympics. Professor. Yes, Professor Bananas, the cat. If I lived with somebody who enjoyed the Olympics, I'll bet you it's a tradition I could get into. But, you know, since I'm not, you know, me, I'm not super clamoring to keep up with what everybody's talking about anyway, which, again, makes me perfect for this job. You know, I'm happy to let the olympics pass but i just told genevieve a couple of days ago i said i am going to make a concerted effort to follow the olympics this year now the question is what now we're recording these a little bit early of course do you think the olympics have started i'm already off to a good start they're over by the time this airs really uh it's actually the winter olympics oh and it's

00:01:49 - 00:02:54 | Speaker 2:

last year's winter olympics right that's the one of the strangest parts uh actually no you know everything at the end of this week as people are hearing this at the end of this week on friday that will be the beginning of the olympics in tokyo if it happens because that's the other thing is that as as we're sitting here recording this and you know andrew that i am ready for action because i have spun my chair around i have sit on this capisco chair from the fine folks over at fully in portland they make like ergonom and sell ergonomic furniture and when we have one of these days where we have recorded a regular episode of tvtl which we've already done this morning and now we're going to spend some time in the afternoon recording special shows so that we can take a little time off uh that's when i turn the chair around that's it's like it's like i'm addressing a a room full of troubled teens okay and i'm letting them know that it's getting real but this is how you know that i am just fully i'm fully torqued for this recording of the summer games because the capisco stool has officially been turned around which i only do

00:02:54 - 00:03:36 | Speaker 1:

for special occasions okay let's not say torqued um so um yeah this is like the olympics for us i see yes and so the official olympic games i the secondary summer games as i call them uh will be beginning at the end of this week this friday as we as um if they're still happening Yes. So, okay, that's exciting. I also wanted to say, you know, we should talk about what our first game is going to be today, because not all of them are competitive, right? This game today is actually a personality quiz that you and I are going to take together, which is fun. We'll both get gold medals. I was also ruminating recently as I was prepping for this, not to spend a lot of time.

00:03:36 - 00:03:39 | Speaker 2:

Your ears are always ruminating about something.

00:03:39 - 00:04:51 | Speaker 1:

Not to spend a lot of time patting ourselves on the back, but I really appreciate the evolution of what these kind of summer shows have become and our holiday shows, too. When we take a couple of weeks and pre-record a bunch of stuff, originally they started as reruns. Like literally you and I would record like intros and endings for old shows and just run old podcasts. we kind of didn't like that anymore because people can access the archives they don't need us to feed them archive shows and we were putting a lot of work into them anyway so we said let's just do short shows then we started coming up with themes for the weeks and now we've settled in I believe this is solidly our probably fourth game week if that makes sense or set of game weeks we've done a couple of winter games now a couple of summer games now it's evolved to the point where listeners are now providing most of the content today's quiz like all the quizzes we have set up so far are coming from listeners either creating them themselves or finding them for us like this all just sort of evolved bit by bit by bit over the years and luke i'm chuffed i just love it i look forward to this i agree and i want to give

00:04:51 - 00:05:00 | Speaker 2:

you some credit on this i know this is not your point in this but you are the one that made the case back in a while ago that, look, we're already recording.

00:05:00 - 00:05:33 | Speaker 1:

a good half hour of content to set up, to tee up these reruns. We might as well just make new shows. Let's just do that. The listeners will be, you know, they'll be happy to get a half hour of well-planned new content. And then you're also the one who now manages these quizzes. You've been sending me the first five that we're going to do, like this first week of programming, and you've got it all kind of laid out for me. Like today, I know that it's going to be a game or rather a personality quiz called Tell us what food you like, and we will guess your age. I guess this is from listener Joel.

00:05:33 - 00:05:41 | Speaker 2:

Yes, I'm pretty excited about this because I have a strong feeling I'm 80 and very Midwestern when it comes to my tastes.

00:05:42 - 00:07:07 | Speaker 1:

Okay. I don't think I necessarily have very exotic taste either, but I think just compared to you, my taste seems a little bit exotic because there is a wider – outside of the meat stuff, there's a wider range of things that I will eat. I'm not put off by by mayo and things that are creamy in fact that's a something that makes me always like something a little bit more so I guess we'll um did Joel say anything else uh here I've got this actually I'll read it hey dummies I thought of you guys and of course content when I saw this quiz now I'll mention Bo Burnham he's got that new um comedy special out that everyone loves and I think he's got a song in it called like daddy made you some content oh really and you know for the on for years on this show we've been we've been kind of joking about hashtag content now every time i want to say that i feel like i'm ripping off bo burnham but i would like to remind the listeners that we were saying it for a long time so if you hear us say that we're not ripping off the very very popular bo burnham comedy special anyway joel says uh you know content when i saw this quiz i admit i was skeptical but it guessed i was 44 even though i'm 46 that's pretty close yeah i thought this would be a fun one for you guys to try so um so yeah we've got this my question to you andrew is do we start the quiz now and then stop and take a little break or do we go to our break a tad bit early and then come back and then we can just do this quiz without

00:07:07 - 00:07:25 | Speaker 2:

any kind of time strictures i think we should go to the break come back take the quiz find out how old we are in food years this is how i interpret this probably a lot of meatloaf for me probably not so much meatloaf for you um i'm wondering if you're not going to get a different result

00:07:25 - 00:07:28 | Speaker 1:

and you said you're getting 80 year old man you're going to get an eight year old man

00:07:28 - 00:08:04 | Speaker 2:

we'll see yeah maybe that's that's interesting i just think mine are going to be a bunch of old school comfort foods like i you had mentioned the cream thing that's like a weird that's just some you know weird picky taste that i have i don't know if that really applies to you know don't kids like yogurt and all kinds of things i don't like i don't know if the cream is going to influence this so much as just like kind of old-fashioned comfort foods that's my guess i have not taken this quiz whereas you're a vegetarian so a lot of your stuff is going to be like fresh and and probably you know like unfortunately not which we'll get into more

00:08:04 - 00:08:47 | Speaker 1:

during the quiz that's the problem is i've never been less healthy because while there are vegetarians who are you know great at just eating whole foods things without barcodes on them as it were and like you know just fresh veggies and fruit i what i do is i wait until i'm so hungry that i do not have the uh i do not have the calories to then go to the store and buy some fresh stuff or dig out some fresh stuff from the fridge and prepare something instead i just jump on a food ordering app and bring myself something that's uh you know bad for me but anyway i guess we'll find out together what our ages are our food age coming up in a moment here on tbtl don't go anywhere it's the summer games

00:08:47 - 00:09:06 | Speaker 3:

Bobby was a kid from around the town kicks pumped up and head held down

00:09:06 - 00:09:15 | Speaker 1:

ah hell yeah Andrew you know you're hearing a butter miracle sweet one the latest from the crows

00:09:15 - 00:09:32 | Speaker 2:

So you have been getting into this record. You and I were talking about it a little bit before our road trip, but you hadn't really heard it or explored it fully at that point. Are you into it? I hear you kind of snickering because I know you think it's kind of – you think it's embarrassing that you like Counting Crows. I do not think it's embarrassing. I like that you like them.

00:09:32 - 00:09:33 | Speaker 3:

Turn it up a little bit.

00:09:37 - 00:10:01 | Speaker 1:

This is just peak Counting Crows sound to me, if that makes any sense. Like this song absolutely delivers on the promise of what a Counting Crows song should sound like Also, I haven't listened to it enough to know off the top of my head But if there's a weather pattern and a city mentioned Then you've really got a Counting Crows song Because most of them are about it It's raining in Baltimore Oh, right. Okay, sure.

00:10:01 - 00:10:08 | Speaker 2:

It's always weather is happening somewhere in a city. Adam Duritz really likes that lyric. Anyway. Can I try something here?

00:10:09 - 00:10:12 | Speaker 1:

There's a heat dome in Portland.

00:10:13 - 00:10:14 | Speaker 2:

How was that? Yeah.

00:10:15 - 00:10:17 | Speaker 1:

All right. I'll leave the singing to you.

00:10:18 - 00:10:51 | Speaker 2:

No, no. I like that. That was actually good. I could see him writing a song about a heat dome. Although heat dome is not sad enough for him. It's always got to be more downbeat. Okay. None of that gets us any closer to embarking on this food quiz that listener Joel sent in. This is the first of the TBTL Summer Games off of BuzzFeed. This was put together by a community contributor at BuzzFeed named K. Freddy is what they go by. And I assume I have the right one here. This food quiz will allow us to guess your age with scary accuracy?

00:10:52 - 00:11:00 | Speaker 1:

No. Here are 60 foods. Tell us what you like, and we'll guess your age by Audrey Engvilsen. Do you want me to send you the link? Engvilsen.

00:11:00 - 00:11:16 | Speaker 2:

Engvilsen. I've got it right here. Oh, okay, cool. Oh, I see. All right. Okay, below you will see two checklists. I see. I went down to the more like this page. Sorry. It turns out on BuzzFeed there's about 1,000 quizzes about food that will tell you your age. And I had scrolled down to the wrong one. You should do a blind test.

00:11:16 - 00:11:32 | Speaker 1:

You should take one, and I should take the other. No. Let's stick with this one. Okay, so I'm clicking yes. And I can't remember how many questions it is. But, yeah, this is going to be fun. So it's going to mention a whole bunch of different foods. Of course, there's delicious-looking photos of these foods. We cannot show the audience that.

00:11:32 - 00:11:59 | Speaker 2:

Terrible timing because neither of us have had lunch yet today. Yes, I know. Okay, so I'll make sure we're looking at the same thing here. I hit totally because it's BuzzFeed. Yeah. It's fine. Are you ready? Totally or no, but okay. So now it says check off all the foods that you like from this checklist. Then check done choosing. Oh, wow. So basically it sounds like we just go through these different food types and we check them if we like them?

00:11:59 - 00:12:31 | Speaker 1:

Yes. Now, if you're scrolling down like you probably are as a radio professional and kind of getting an assessment of how many there are, you should know that because I did do a really just a cursory view of this, and when you hit done choosing, it will introduce you to a whole other set of choices. So for timing purposes, just keep that in mind because I remember looking at this page. again very quickly and just thinking wow none of these are really for me but then hit the next page and you see a whole you see a whole different style of foods like the more meatloafy kinds of

00:12:31 - 00:12:51 | Speaker 2:

stuff i believe so okay i'll try to go fast with this but some of the choices include acai bowl or acai yeah acai bowl i think is how you pronounce that i actually do like that i've had it before i don't order it but one time i was hanging out with some folks and they had ordered some and i had a bite and i thought it was quite delicious uh avocado toast who doesn't like

00:12:51 - 00:13:33 | Speaker 1:

avocado toast you like avocado toast right never had avocado toast i'm not a huge avocado person generally speaking although i've brought it more into my life recently with some summer salads and i made some delicious summer tacos last or two nights ago that i put some avocado on um but i'm gonna why did you pick this quiz for today i would honestly kill a man for any of the things you just said i'm gonna send you a photo of these tacos i made last night i'm not usually not right now at dinner time they were i'm very proud of how they looked very colorful with some um nice summer salad next to it so just so you know i'm gonna try to be very honest here i'm not saying i wouldn't eat these things or that they gross me out or anything but i i've either never had them or don't have a lot of interest in them so i'm not checking either one of those do i get to check

00:13:33 - 00:14:43 | Speaker 2:

acai bowl if i've only had one and i liked it yeah that you check off all the foods that you like so yeah i think so like i have a positive feeling towards it if you said hey uh want to go grab an acai bowl i would say okay so i think that i i will say that i like it i know i love avocado toast you know what i don't love bubble tea okay no bubble tea thank you cannot get down with that whipped coffee no thank you never had an impossible burger i'll say yes to that yeah sure had an impossible red robin burger yesterday and it was delicious andrew i have absolutely unleashed a dragon i have opened an arc of the covenant which is called there's a red robin like four blocks for me i was going to ask how close is it to you it's so close and it's so scummy looking from the outside because it's in an area that unfortunately has a lot of graffiti and trash and you know folks that are dealing with a lot of different kinds of issues and so like the sign is all scratched out and stuff like i was almost like is that a place even open but it is and guess what those steak fries they still real good so um and they have impossible burgers now impossibly so a secret menu item from starbucks i think we're both a pass on that right yep yep pass for me

00:14:43 - 00:14:48 | Speaker 1:

poke bowl i've always been poke curious but haven't tried it yet i don't think so

00:14:48 - 00:14:59 | Speaker 2:

i have to say no to that i mean i don't i like a poke salad okay and when i was eating fish but i'm not gonna not enough that i want to check it oat milk no thanks cronut like

00:14:59 - 00:15:29 | Unknown:

Thank you.

00:15:00 - 00:15:02 | Speaker 2:

I've had a cronut, and it was really yummy.

00:15:02 - 00:15:33 | Speaker 1:

I'm going to say no, because I don't feel like that is emotionally or intellectually honest for me. I'm sure if I had one, I would like it, but I'm just not the type of person who's like, do you want to go get a cronut? Luke, you have to try this cronut. Maybe if it was just a pink box of donuts from some place in L.A. that is sitting on a desk, I would certainly probably click yes, because I like the occasional midday donut in a work setting. But I'm just not somebody who gets excited about cronuts. I don't think you are either.

00:15:34 - 00:16:02 | Speaker 2:

No, then I'm not going to check it. You're right. Because I have had one, and I thought it was yummy. But that's how I feel about all donuts and pretty much all pizza. Like, I haven't hit any of it that's bad. Kombucha, not – I can't claim to like kombucha. Although my brother-in-law, Josh, has started making it because they're going to sell it. They're going to have it, like, on tap at their new version of their restaurant in Portland, Pollo Bravo. And so I've been having some when I hang out with them. And it is pretty yummy, but I can't claim to be a kombucha head.

00:16:02 - 00:16:07 | Speaker 1:

Yeah, I'm a hard pass on kombucha. Never tried it. Don't think I ever will. Chocolate-covered bacon? No thanks.

00:16:07 - 00:16:08 | Speaker 2:

How about a burrito bowl?

00:16:08 - 00:16:25 | Speaker 1:

How do you feel about burrito bowls? Again, I'm going to try to be honest to the quiz. I'm not saying I wouldn't eat a burrito bowl, but I never have. Given the opportunity to eat a burrito bowl or a burrito, I always get a burrito. So I'm going to say no for me. But again, not that I would hate it. It's just not me. It's not an extension of myself.

00:16:25 - 00:17:06 | Speaker 2:

I think that's a good way to look at this I put yes on burrito bowl because Even though I have reverted to the high Carbohondrate lifestyle For many years of my life it was all burrito bowl All the time and I still do enjoy those My argument is You get about 80% of the Enjoyment of the burrito experience Out of a burrito bowl And if you're really trying to be careful about that kind of stuff It's worth sacrificing On the tortilla which I No longer choose to do in my own personal life Okay, wheatgrass shot, hard no. Mochi ice cream, just not a space that I've played in. Me too, or me neither. Rolled ice cream, didn't know that it existed until I looked at this picture of it on Getty.

00:17:07 - 00:17:09 | Speaker 1:

I'd smoke it based on the picture, but I don't know if I'd eat it.

00:17:11 - 00:17:19 | Speaker 2:

Sushi burrito, now that's, what I'm looking at looks to me just like a very thick sushi roll. Is sushi burrito a trend?

00:17:20 - 00:17:47 | Speaker 1:

See, I don't know. i'm looking at this photo too and if it didn't say burrito i'd assume that that's because there's nothing to put it into scale but if it's if that's like the size of a burrito or even a small burrito that doesn't sound great to me like i like sushi and i like sushi rolls a lot um depending on you know which roll you're getting and i even i like sashimi i like it all but like i think like a large scale roll like that would actually not appeal to me like that's a lot of seaweed yeah

00:17:47 - 00:17:53 | Speaker 2:

I'm with you on that. So I'm passing. Charcoal ice cream, again, just now learning that's a thing.

00:17:54 - 00:17:55 | Speaker 1:

Yeah, me too. I wonder what it tastes like.

00:17:55 - 00:18:10 | Speaker 2:

It looks like the toothpaste that I have to use because my sink is black here. And if I use regular, like, white toothpaste, it just, after literally one toothbrushing, the sink is just destroyed. So I use this black charcoal toothpaste that at least buys me, like, three or four days.

00:18:10 - 00:18:19 | Speaker 1:

When you have guests over, like, I think you said that Addy stayed with you a few weeks ago or something. Do you make guests use black toothpaste? No, I do not.

00:18:19 - 00:18:39 | Speaker 2:

I let them. You should. There's actually two bathrooms here, and yeah, I should get a sign outside that said in this house. We believe love wins, and you have to use this weird-ass toothpaste that we're using. Edible cookie dough, again, not against it, but not something that I in any way adjust my lifestyle to make room for.

00:18:39 - 00:18:59 | Speaker 1:

Me too. In fact, I've – like, you know, I know that people get excited about it. I think it started just as, you know, our generation were kids, and the most fun part, I guess, of making cookies with your parents was you got to lick the thing. But I didn't really have that experience growing up, so I didn't grow up kind of fetishizing edible cookie dough, although I will eat cookie dough ice cream. That's pretty good, but I'm going to say no on this.

00:18:59 - 00:19:22 | Speaker 2:

There's a place here in Portland that is – I guess they just sell uncooked cookie dough, but they've done something where it's pasteurized, so it's not like raw egg. they sell but that's what they sell and it's not they don't sell it like um in a you know some tube so you can go make cookies at home literally the product they're selling that you're to you're to consume is uncooked cookie yep and i think that's exactly what they're

00:19:22 - 00:19:30 | Speaker 1:

talking about here i'm gonna say no i'm also gonna say no to this and over the top milkshake which is like they're showing a picture of like a milkshake that is just like

00:19:30 - 00:19:41 | Speaker 2:

piled high character from the rocky horror picture show was somehow converted into a milkshake i I don't – that's all I can say to try to explain the look of this ridiculous milkshake.

00:19:41 - 00:20:11 | Speaker 1:

Imagine a Bloody Mary at a place where they make too much to do out of a Bloody Mary and there's like all kinds of stuff sticking out of it. A cheeseburger on a stick. There's a cheeseburger on a stick. There's a whole salami like from a cartoon sticking out of it, et cetera, et cetera. It's like that. Only it's all ice cream and milkshake and chocolate. It reminds me, Luke, something I've been thinking about. out lately i don't know why but that line from pulp fiction a five dollar shake huh better be pretty good like is there a more antiquated line in a movie that you and i grew up with well we

00:20:11 - 00:20:52 | Speaker 2:

know your age andrew it's old it's old well my problem with this this is one of the many moments where we spend this highly auditory medium talking about something highly visual including this one random Getty stock footage of an over-the-top milkshake, but this thing looks like a living nightmare to eat. It is basically, it's a mason jar with a handle on it that's then full of ice cream that then, like you said, Andrew, you described it accurately, there's like another half a foot of stuff piled on it, and all I can see is just stickiness. Just an absolute, like, any of the things that are shown here would be yummy, and I would consume some of them in the proper bowl.

00:20:53 - 00:21:00 | Speaker 1:

Absolutely. I don't want to think about what my face and hands would feel like after tackling that so skip it for me macaroons next one is

00:21:00 - 00:21:22 | Speaker 2:

macaron is a macaron different than a macaroon oh i don't know i just saw the word and i assumed it was a macaroon i don't know i'm wondering if this entire time it's spelled m-a-c-a-r-o-n-s the whole time when i've heard people talking about macaroons have have they has it been spelled what looks like macaron to me or is that a different kind of little cookie thing macaroon

00:21:22 - 00:21:37 | Speaker 1:

i am on the dictionary.com or whatever it is okay they are pronouncing it macaron macaron but all the photos look exactly like these things we're talking about here so is a macaroon something

00:21:37 - 00:21:54 | Speaker 2:

else or is everybody pronouncing it wrong have we all whoa okay mac macarons and macaroons differ in their main ingredient which for macarons is almond meal and macaroons is shredded coconut And if you think about it, macaroons always have a lot of coconut.

00:21:55 - 00:22:01 | Speaker 1:

Okay. That's actually – I find that actually very interesting. So there's a macaron and a macaroon. Okay.

00:22:01 - 00:22:33 | Speaker 2:

And also if the macaron that we're looking at, if it uses almond flour, that means lower carbonondrant. So are you going to click yes on this? No, because I still haven't – I didn't even know it existed or how to say it before this picture showed up. So I cannot – like you said, I cannot claim that it's part of my life. microgreens i actually am a fan of microgreens i very much like them when they're on things i think it's funny that like everybody from our parents generation were all eating sprouts when they were trying to be healthy in the like 1970s and early 80s that was always are putting sprouts

00:22:33 - 00:23:02 | Speaker 1:

on things and i feel like that's back now yeah is that i mean i haven't had it in a while but when i was living in new hampshire my favorite sandwich place was called in a pinch and i always got sprouts i love sprouts on my sandwich but when they say microgreens here and the way it's presented is this a bigger trend like if i just like sprouts on a sandwich does that count for me luke are they talking about some new modern trend that i don't know about that where people are eating them directly from the dirt or something well what's happening more is there

00:23:02 - 00:23:26 | Speaker 2:

are microgreen salads so you can see there's three there are three little clumps of plant life here and the one on the right is sprouts is what we would think of as sprouts yeah the other two are like almost look like a four-leaf clover kind of thing when you see it in the salad and it's very yummy i love it a good micro green salad but you're right that's not that's not something that they're necessarily going to be slinging at a diner okay it's kind of a little bit more of a

00:23:26 - 00:23:48 | Speaker 1:

she-she restaurants than i'm going to say no i think that's intellectually um honest to say no there however skipping to this next line i will say zoodles are here i like me some zoodles we got ourselves a zoodler we make zoodles sometimes yeah i mean it's been a it's been a while since i've made it but like i i like zoodles so amen yes yes to zoodles for me please we're gonna skiss

00:23:48 - 00:24:03 | Speaker 2:

we're gonna skip cold pressed juice and truffle mac and cheese yes we are i mean you are because like that sounds disgusting to you i am just because i don't eat a lot of truffle mac and cheese were it presented to me i would eat it you're right like if somebody was like what's that

00:24:03 - 00:24:18 | Speaker 1:

i'm sorry to move ahead i just saw bone broth on here too and like i mean i know that they're talking more about fancy restaurant stuff but like i make bone broth right like i make stock like yeah yeah i gotta hit i gotta be you have to you're the bone collector i am the bone collector

00:24:18 - 00:24:38 | Speaker 2:

damn it chia pudding no thank you beer cheese i'm gonna put down as a yes because when you don't eat meat and you go to a lot of sports bars and other places of the like like i do often the only thing on the menu that's edible for you is a pretzel and beer cheese aha i've never had it

00:24:38 - 00:24:43 | Speaker 1:

i find myself eating it a lot i've never i've never had it if i liked cheese i'd probably like

00:24:43 - 00:24:50 | Speaker 2:

beer cheese but i don't so i won't dragon fruit that looks suspect that looks sus yeah i've never

00:24:50 - 00:25:29 | Speaker 1:

no cap that looks sus that kids would say that looks um it also looks intriguing but i've never had it yeah i wonder what it tastes like kind of looks like ice cream the Thank you.

00:25:00 - 00:25:42 | Speaker 2:

the part of it that's not cut up in the little pieces uh cauliflower so we're going to both go no on dragon fruit cauliflower crust pizza is an interesting one because you know me and the the low carbing over over time so i know about every kind of pizza crust hack out there and i will tell you the worst of all of them cauliflower first of all not that low carb smells like farts because it just has that cauliflowery kind of taste to it like either go with a real slice of pizza or make a fat head pizza crust like I used to, which is mostly made out of cheese and eggs. And then you basically you build a crust that's all high protein and low carb. And then you put a bunch more cheese and sauce on top of it. And when you're eating it, you don't know you're not eating regular pizza.

00:25:43 - 00:25:58 | Speaker 1:

Genevieve has some frozen cauliflower pizzas that she keeps in. Well, she usually just has one in reserve in the freezer. Not exactly sure why. I think I've had a bite of one once. But generally speaking, I'm not. Let's face it. Look at me. I'm not a cauliflower crust pizza guy.

00:25:58 - 00:26:28 | Speaker 2:

It's just, again, it's to me, my personal experience with it is it's not low carb enough to justify the downgrade in the pizza crust experience. There are other ways to have a pizza crust. You could use almond flour. There's lots of things you can do to where you're having fewer carbohydrates in the pizza. This one is not even the lowest carb option, and I think it just, for me, doesn't taste all that great. So I'm going to go no on that. I'm also going to go no on cold brew. Now, you might go yes on cold brew.

00:26:28 - 00:26:40 | Speaker 1:

Yeah, I'll go yes on cold brew. Like, again, I don't fetishize it. I don't, like, plan a day around getting cold brew from my favorite spot or something. But certainly I like an iced coffee, and if it's cold brewed, all the better. Amen, especially in the summertime.

00:26:41 - 00:26:49 | Speaker 2:

So I hit update the list or done or whatever. And it's very funny because we have 100% now hit on the old person page.

00:26:50 - 00:27:02 | Speaker 1:

Exactly. Exactly. Which I think we can zip. I know we're getting a little bit long here, but we can zip through these pretty quickly. We can go fast because I'm going to be a no on most of these. That's a no. That's a no for me, dog. Ambrosia. No.

00:27:02 - 00:27:26 | Speaker 2:

No. Thank you. Actually, you know what's funny? Ambrosia looks very unappealing, and I know it's way too much into that kind of creamy world for you. But when I've had ambrosia, I've definitely not hated it because, you know, an apple slice that's covered in a sugary sauce is not a bad flavor for one to experience. But I don't eat ambrosia on the reg, so I've got to pass on that. Meatloaf. Amen.

00:27:26 - 00:27:31 | Speaker 1:

Yes, sir-ree. Put it in my veins. Nope, put it in my mouth, and then it'll make its way to my veins.

00:27:31 - 00:27:34 | Speaker 2:

Yes, it will. That's how the digestive tract works.

00:27:35 - 00:27:47 | Speaker 1:

Well, the cholesterol will. Cottage cheese. Honestly, that would be a punishment for me. If there is a hell, I don't believe there is one, but if there is a hell, and I go there, cottage cheese will be involved.

00:27:47 - 00:28:27 | Speaker 2:

I also really think that they've used the oddest of all cottage cheese pictures because it is cottage cheese with blueberries in it. It doesn't seem, yeah. What is going on in your life that you're doing that? I mean, I'm not going to go seek out cottage cheese, but I don't mind it. But not with blueberries in it. No, thank you. How about prune juice, Andrew? Not for me. Yeah. I don't even know if I would hate prune juice, but as somebody who has been very regular in the number two department, in fact, maybe overly so in my life, I've never needed to drink. And the idea behind prune juice is it was like back in the day was something you would drink to kind of get your system moving, right?

00:28:27 - 00:28:39 | Speaker 1:

Yeah, yeah. That's why I think it's so funny. This page is so obviously the old. Like what is more – what's a joke of making fun of somebody's age other than the saying, can I get you some more prune juice, grandpa? Fig roll.

00:28:39 - 00:29:18 | Speaker 2:

I'm a yes on the record fig roll it by the way that's just a fig newton I don't know why they're calling it fig roll but what we're looking at is a picture of a fig newton and I love fig newtons you're not so much into them lowest level of the dessert ladder but a dessert nonetheless maybe in the eyes of some butter pecan ice cream nope don't like that flavor don't like pecan pie either me neither I think pecan pie is very overrated and there are people in my family who are amazing bakers, and they make pecan pie for Thanksgiving and stuff, and I can appreciate that it looks amazing and everyone's raving about it, but that's never the pie that I'm going towards.

00:29:18 - 00:29:31 | Speaker 1:

Yeah, it looks beautiful because it looks lacquered, but it's not for me. Okay, now we're getting into Luke's sweet spot. I freaking love potato salad. Do you like a German potato salad with more of a vinegar base?

00:29:32 - 00:29:54 | Speaker 2:

More than the picture they have here is like grandma's famous potato salad. It's lots of mayo and eggs. I definitely go more towards the German kind of less creamy and more vinegary side, like you said. But you know what I really love? What I absolutely – in fact, I'm going to probably have some of this tonight here on this warm Portland Day coleslaw.

00:29:55 - 00:29:59 | Speaker 1:

Does it matter what you have it with? I'm not a big coleslaw person because there's usually a bit of a mayonnaise.

00:30:00 - 00:30:09 | Speaker 2:

component if it's on a sandwich it's like pulled pork sandwich and coleslaw is on there i'll have it but like i'm not gonna ever eat it as a side does it matter what you're eating it with no but

00:30:09 - 00:30:48 | Speaker 1:

what it is is i grew up thinking coleslaw was gross because it would be something that would come on the side of some you know restaurant dish or people would have it at the potluck and it was always made terribly like it was oh way too much of whatever the mayo was and was sweet a lot of people would put a bunch of sugar in it i love cabbage i just absolutely think cabbage is just a superfood for me and coleslaw is mostly cabbage so if you keep it a little bit less sweet and and again not overdo it with the dressing it's just basically like a yummy refreshing giant thing of cabbage for me so that's what i go for taffy how do you feel about

00:30:48 - 00:31:07 | Speaker 2:

taffy not for me not at all um how about fruitcake i mean i don't know that i've ever had it it looks fine in this picture but i don't i don't think i'm going to say yes to that because i'm just you know i don't crave it i don't think about it licorice yes licorice especially like real

00:31:07 - 00:31:28 | Speaker 1:

black licorice yes please i was hanging out with my with my sister sarah and her fam and they were This is down at Yahat's, and they were all just grooving on the – and black licorice, I should say. Didn't we do a whole thing on this, how like red licorice is actually misleading because licorice is just black licorice?

00:31:28 - 00:31:39 | Speaker 2:

I believe so. I believe I brought that to the table and I stand by it. I mean like red vines and like the quote-unquote red licorice, that's just like kind of the shape of licorice. But licorice is the flavor of black licorice.

00:31:40 - 00:32:11 | Speaker 1:

We still have many, many of these to go, but I'm just going to try to tear through these, okay? So just stop me if we hit a yes, and I'll stop you if I hit a yes, okay? Pimento loaf. Not for me. Although, you know, when I look back on it, I love pimento. Pimento is just red pepper, and, you know, bologna can be kind of yummy in a certain context. So I always grew up thinking pimento loaf was the absolute grossest thing ever. I think it's because they might have pecans. Not pecans. There's some other nut that's sometimes in it And that seems weird to me

00:32:11 - 00:32:15 | Speaker 2:

Yeah, me too I grew up eating a lot of bologna But would just laugh Pimento loaf was a

00:32:15 - 00:32:17 | Speaker 1:

You'd see it in the deli

00:32:17 - 00:32:30 | Speaker 2:

And you'd be like, what the crap is going on with that What did my bologna catch? And do I have it now? Oatmeal I'm gonna say no I don't have a problem with it But I haven't eaten it since I was a kid Jell-O

00:32:30 - 00:32:40 | Speaker 1:

No, I don't love Jell-O that much Whole milk No Yeah. Raisin Bran Flakes cereal.

00:32:42 - 00:32:46 | Speaker 2:

It's not my favorite cereal, but I've certainly had it, and I assume I'll eat it again.

00:32:47 - 00:32:57 | Speaker 1:

Yeah, I'm going to give that a yes, because we used to eat a lot of it when I was a kid, and I loved it. I would eat some. Yeah. I would happily eat some Raisin Bran. Okay. It's a pleasant experience for me. You know this next one, too.

00:32:58 - 00:33:04 | Speaker 2:

Green bean casserole. Nope, not for me. Yes, sir. One of the few foods that I've made that I have not eaten.

00:33:04 - 00:33:06 | Speaker 1:

Yeah, didn't you make it for the picnic?

00:33:06 - 00:33:26 | Speaker 2:

I made it for – no, I made it for something else. I donated it for somebody who was having a Thanksgiving meal, and they had asked for that. So I said, okay, and I followed the recipe, and as I was making – I'm not – I know most people love it. I know this is my own weirdness, but it was the only thing I've ever made where I'm kind of like, this looks so gross to me, and I'm the one making it.

00:33:26 - 00:33:55 | Speaker 1:

Oh, my God, dude. My sister Hannah makes it now for every Thanksgiving. It's not a family tradition. Like, this started five, six years ago, but it's so good. I love it absolutely love it and Carrie actually makes it as well and that might have been I think it came from her family so we would have it sometimes she would just make it on like a Tuesday and I mean it's got onion it's got like you know fried onions on top which you throw that on top of anything and you're kind of in business definitely helps hard candies nah yeah

00:33:55 - 00:34:29 | Speaker 2:

how about saltines yeah love me some saltines pretzels oh I love pretzels it's my favorite snacks well well saltines and pretzels are different though yeah i'm sorry pretzels are the next one sorry gotcha so you're going two for two i'm two for two i'm three for three what way for cookies love them that coldness the way that they always have they maintain this almost like artificial my phone is ringing during the summer games what is happening don't people know it's the summer games um wafer cookies they you bite into them they almost have an artificial coolness to them i love uh-huh because the cream

00:34:29 - 00:35:07 | Speaker 1:

is probably at a slightly different resting temperature than the dry wafer. Yeah, that's not for me, but that's amazing. So you went three for three on it. It's a clean sweep of that category. Yes, and a pretty passionate sweep. That's right. Tapioca pudding. Nope. Grapefruit juice. Yes, love it. I'm putting me down as a yes for that. Chicken pot pie. Yeah. How about Twinkies? That's a tough one for me to answer because I haven't had a Twinkie in. years but i loved them when i was a kid like i am pro twinkies yeah i i'll say yes i mean i haven't

00:35:07 - 00:35:15 | Speaker 2:

again i haven't had one probably since i was a child but i mean if somebody puts a twinkie in front of me i'll eat it unless they tell what if they put it in front of me and they say don't eat

00:35:15 - 00:35:44 | Speaker 1:

that then do i eat it no i don't know and then you get two later then you're an experiment then watch out you're being filmed devil's eggs andrews how many andrews are able to wait for more Twinkies if they avoid immediate gratification. We're getting into the home stretch here. Deviled eggs. I'm a yes on that. Hard no from me. Yeah, that's definitely not up your alley. Pork rinds. Never had them, I don't think. Oh, wow. That's interesting. That seems like a Midwest thing. It seems like the kind of stuff you'd have been eating at a barbecue when you were a kid or something.

00:35:45 - 00:35:51 | Speaker 2:

Yeah, it seems like if it had been introduced to me at a young age, I probably would be into them now, but they never were, and so I've never had them.

00:35:52 - 00:36:00 | Speaker 1:

And they're very big in the low-carb community because they're crispy and kind of like you're having a chip or something, but they're just pigskin.

00:36:00 - 00:36:05 | Speaker 2:

They really are just pigskin? I assumed at this point they were just, like, imitating what used to be pigskin back in the day.

00:36:07 - 00:36:10 | Speaker 1:

Maybe there's a new process I don't know about where they just flavor them.

00:36:10 - 00:36:13 | Speaker 2:

No, I mean, you would know more than me. I've never had them. I just assumed that.

00:36:14 - 00:36:29 | Speaker 1:

I thought they were always just, yeah, just deep-fried pigskin or something, which grossed me out when I was a kid. but then when I was in the low-carb life, I kind of got into them because it was like a snack I could have. Pecan pie, we've already addressed that. We're both a no. Biscuits, I'm a big yes on biscuits.

00:36:30 - 00:36:34 | Speaker 2:

Yeah, you know, it's not usually the carb I choose at a breakfast place,

00:36:34 - 00:36:43 | Speaker 1:

but I'll take a biscuit. I have actually, like, looked up the Red Lobster Cheddar Bay biscuit recipe and made them. Really?

00:36:43 - 00:36:47 | Speaker 2:

Oh, yeah, I think I remember you telling me about that. Yeah, that's true. The Cheddar Bay ones.

00:36:47 - 00:37:10 | Speaker 1:

Peanuts, the final one, peanuts. I am a big yes on peanuts. I'm a very big yes on peanuts. It's my go-to snack. Like, in fact, when you and I were driving around in the Delica and we'd stop off at a, you know, gas station to refuel, I would always try to just, if I was going to grab a snack, I would try to grab peanuts because they'd just feel a little less terrible for me than a super processed, you know, Dorito or something.

00:37:10 - 00:37:18 | Speaker 2:

And I have a bag of unopened, in-the-shell peanuts that I will be cracking open today around 7.10. Oh.

00:37:19 - 00:37:32 | Speaker 1:

What's happening at 7.10? Mariner's game. Oh, right. All right. So now we are done with the quiz. We're going to hit done choosing, and I'm assuming that that will give us our answer, Andrew? It will. I've already hit it. I know how old I am in food years. I am hitting my – whoa.

00:37:35 - 00:37:50 | Speaker 2:

Okay. What did yours say? Mine says I'm 48 years old. I'm actually in real life – I was just talking to my mom. I forgot how old I am. I think I'm 44 now, I believe. I said I – I think I'm 44. Are you 45? I'm 45.

00:37:50 - 00:37:52 | Speaker 1:

But not in food age, Andrew.

00:37:52 - 00:37:57 | Speaker 2:

You're a young, can I guess? You're a young 37.

00:37:58 - 00:38:18 | Speaker 1:

They say, we've never seen this before, but obviously you're someone who can drink coffee right before they go to bed. It's the first time we've gotten a result this cool. No, I am officially, according to this quiz, 41 years old. I have to feel like the biscuits and peanuts and coleslaw kind of killed me.

00:38:18 - 00:38:20 | Speaker 2:

Yeah, probably.

00:38:20 - 00:38:21 | Speaker 1:

Killed my ranking.

00:38:21 - 00:38:25 | Speaker 2:

Do you want to, I know we're in a hurry. Do you want to really quickly retake the entire quiz and take those off?

00:38:26 - 00:38:41 | Speaker 1:

And I'm going to hit Boba Tee more. Try to skew my age down. Okay, so you got a little, this is, I think, kind of what we expected. You got a little older than your actual age, and I got a little bit younger than my actual age.

00:38:41 - 00:39:00 | Speaker 2:

I expected to get much older than 48. I honestly expected to be like in the 70s. I don't know if it goes in. But it's probably because of my – I actually think my weird picky eating around creamy stuff probably made me seem younger. Right. You know, which really – it's just me being picky. So I still believe I'm 81.

00:39:00 - 00:39:22 | Speaker 1:

That pushes you out of the senior citizen home demo because everything there – which, by the way, this is going to be rough for you in your twilight. What are you going to do when you – I know we've got to go, but what are you going to do when you're living in the senior living and they're like, cottage cheese again. And you're like, hunger strike. I knew I shouldn't have moved into shags. Oh, man. You don't trust Lou Piniello with your retirement options?

00:39:22 - 00:39:32 | Speaker 2:

Hey, we'll take a quick break here. When we come back, though, I have a little special thing I'm going to do for end of show music during the summer game. So I'm excited to tell everybody about it.

00:39:32 - 00:39:40 | Speaker 1:

All right. I'm excited, too. We'll do that in a second. All right. How are we going to wrap up these here summer games each day? What is what's the musical plan?

00:39:41 - 00:39:59 | Speaker 2:

So I will admit I shouldn't start by saying this. I will say that there's a chance I've done this before, like years and years and years ago with some other summer project we worked on. But what I'm going to do is choose a song. When I think of summertime, Luke, and I think of like my favorite youthful summer.

00:40:00 - 00:42:16 | Speaker 3:

days, I think of my McDonald's cassette tapes, the rock and gold cassette tapes that were released in 1987. And you would go to McDonald's, you'd get a meal or whatever. And it wasn't like these were thrown in the bag. I think you could just purchase one of these rock and gold cassette tapes that had oldies on them. And they released them, I think maybe across like one a month for four months in the summer of 87, and you have rockin' classics, you have lovin' classics, you have summer classics, and you have dancein' classics, and I lost my cassette tapes. I don't know where they would have went, but I did not have them for years and years, and then I remembered them, and I think it became kind of a thing on TBTL where I started talking about it, and then I found the playlists online somewhere, so I think I, this is way back when I had a blog, Luke. I think it was before I was officially part of TBTL, but maybe I was just, I don't know. Anyway, I created a blog. For a while there, I was the only online presence for these cassette tapes, but I didn't have the actual cassette tapes. Well, now, years later and after years of talking about it, friends and probably listeners have sent them to me. And, well, actually, I had several copies of Rockin' Classics, a couple of copies of Dance and Classics, one copy of Summer Classics, and weirdly, no copy of Love and Classics, which was one of my favorite cassette tapes. It was a lonely childhood for you, wasn't it? Last week, Luke, I bought two more McDonald's cassette tapes in order to get the Love and Classics and fill out my collection. I had to buy another Rockin' Classic. so now I have another rockin' classic but I do have the full collection and that was a long, boring, rambling story but at least you know where this is coming from I'm going to pick a song off of these each day we're going to close the show with it and today's song, Luke, is a song that I know you love as well and to me, totally encapsulates the feeling of summertime and especially this era when I was a kid in the basement going to sleep listening to these tapes and the song is Chad and Jeremy's A Summer Song.

00:42:16 - 00:42:28 | Speaker 2:

Oh my God, I love this. This is peak summer vibes for me. I don't think I even knew this song until it showed up on the Rushmore soundtrack. So I came to it the traditional way.

00:42:29 - 00:42:33 | Speaker 3:

Yeah, so you didn't come to it the traditional way of the McDonald's rockin' gold cassette tapes?

00:42:33 - 00:42:52 | Speaker 2:

At least you were a kid. At least you didn't learn it from a Wes Anderson film. It is a beautiful song, man, so I'll get this going here. Sweet. All right, thanks for listening, everyone. We're going to be back here tomorrow with Day 2 of the Summer Games. Please do join us for that. Until then, have a great rest of your Monday. Stay safe. And please remember, no mountain too tall. And good luck to all.

00:43:07 - 00:43:42 | Speaker 1:

All our cares away Just you and I Sweet Sleepy warmth of summer nights Gazing at the distant lights In the starry sky They say that all good things Must end someday Autumn leaves must fall

00:43:42 - 00:43:49 | Unknown:

But don't you know that it hurts me so

00:43:49 - 00:43:51 | Speaker 1:

Power out!
