So, the game is set in London, after the Blitz, and we need to exchange steel and wood for more wood. But you can't get any wood unless you have the magical feather, in which case you do that in reverse. But if the Sword of Cthulhador is out, that negates the effects of the wood. What? Your turn, big boy. Boom, boom, boom. Alright, so you can either roll, trade, attack, or Bizarro World it. Attack. So I've changed the value of one wood to now be one wood. So to trade one wood for a wood, you must have a wood. What would you like to do? I'll use wood. Wood? Okay, so I've only got this Don Quixote card left, so I guess I'll play that. Zach wins the game. What? Zach wins. He played the Don Quixote card. Then why have I been collecting wood? Oh, you collect wood to win the game. Why does he get one card and he wins then? Because if you play the Don Quixote card, you win the game. I've got wood everywhere. Yeah, and you need the wood to win the game. This is bullshit, Mark. Want to play again? I do. It's fun, isn't it? TBTL!

00:01:13 - 00:01:29 | Speaker 3:

All right, hello, good morning, and welcome to day one of the TBTL Summer Games. I'm Luke Burbank, right over there. My friend, surrounded by wood Andrew Walsh Joining us, good morning

00:01:29 - 00:01:52 | Speaker 2:

Did that get you at the end? I know it's such a trope It is such a trope now I could have almost made 10 intros For all of the summer games Based just on people joking about How complicated games have gotten But that one is from a troupe called Anti-Donna, we've talked about them on the show before And I'm watching it, I'm like, okay, okay And then they just killed me at the end

00:01:52 - 00:02:23 | Speaker 3:

there's something about their playing again i did not see coming and then yeah i have to say like that is what is being played for comic effect there is the actual reason that i probably haven't gotten drawn into more settling katan dungeoning dragons etc etc the complexity of the rules i just I Andrew my attention span is just so so frazzled at this point that I those games are impenetrable

00:02:23 - 00:02:29 | Speaker 2:

to me often yeah I mean it's funny because Vives and I have gotten pretty far into our bird game

00:02:29 - 00:02:45 | Speaker 3:

of course yeah wingspan which I've actually heard from someone is wicked complex actually somebody mentioned that out in real life and I said oh you mean birds actually and they were like that's not really the name and we call it and they're like and it's actually fairly complicated to get into

00:02:45 - 00:03:01 | Speaker 2:

well it depends on who you ask i mean that's kind of the whole thing like when vive and i unboxed that for the first time a couple of years ago and i mean we were watching real videos online how to play the game and they were like these parodies i mean they're talking

00:03:01 - 00:03:30 | Speaker 3:

you were like it was like me trying to figure out how to compression cut a miter miter compression cut um some uh well what do you call it um at the top of where the wall meets the ceiling um what do you call that molding i was trying to compression cut miter molding and do it with youtube and i would have to pause the video and then reenact what the guy in the video was doing because it was so complicated was that you guys with birds actually yes and the language that is

00:03:30 - 00:04:02 | Speaker 2:

like so then you trade three eggs for this food and then but you can do this and move the place holder here and we're watching it we're like we are not these people this is so complicated and then we played a couple of games and it we eased into it pretty quickly and then if you read any reviews of wingspan on any kind of a gaming site people are like well this is a very basic entry level game for anything like this so the people who are already settling for katan or what have you um you know what to them i just want to say this to all of our listeners don't settle for

00:04:02 - 00:04:07 | Speaker 3:

Don't settle. Never settle for Catan. Show title? Did he skip show titles?

00:04:08 - 00:04:30 | Speaker 2:

I had already chosen that as a show title based on what you said earlier. I literally on the show sheet have episode 3749, Never Settle for Catan. By the way, speaking of games, that's a dangerous game right there. I have mapped out, Luke, what I believe the show numbers should be as we pre-record these games. And I know that you don't even touch that anymore. You're like, I've messed that up so many times.

00:04:30 - 00:04:37 | Speaker 3:

I can't do that on a normal week. I can't accurately say what episode we're on Even when we're not pre-recording a bunch of stuff

00:04:37 - 00:04:48 | Speaker 2:

Save yourself But I will go out on a limb here And say that this is episode number 3749 I used a whiteboard And dry erase markers And Genevieve's calendar, Luke You'd have been very proud of me

00:04:48 - 00:05:00 | Speaker 3:

Well, I'm going to tell you, Andrew This level of organization I've said this before we started recording And I'm misquoting Genevieve But it is really great when we can use Your special

00:05:00 - 00:05:43 | Speaker 1:

special brain to to to make my life easier because you these show sheets and the level of organization that you've laid out for the tbtl summer games 2022 is really quite something to observe you've got all of the days figured out who the donors are what the game is how it's going to work where the breaks are like this is very plug and play for me so i thank you for your hard work and i do think the listeners will benefit uh from all of this organization these are going to be these games are going to be really fun there's audio involved we're going to be calling out to a listener uh in a few shows uh to have is this is going to be a listener kirk is he going to be quizzing us is that how that's going to work he is in a couple of days we're going to have kirk on

00:05:43 - 00:06:13 | Speaker 2:

the show also by the way a professional podcaster in his own right but also a a family therapist who's been listening to tbtl for a long time and so he's put together some sort of a quiz uh that is based on psychology and the intersection of psychology and tbtl not that i mean i don't understand even how there could be an intersection there you and i have the couple of the healthiest minds i would think in the podcasting game but he somehow is able to figure out a way to turn into a quiz so we're going to be doing that we're still getting quizzes coming in i'm really excited

00:06:13 - 00:06:27 | Speaker 1:

about these two weeks it's going to be great so thank you everyone for listening thanks for telling your friends about it thanks for liking and rating and itunes thanks for not ignoring this two weeks of show just because it's a slight format change for us of course this is our thanks

00:06:27 - 00:06:35 | Speaker 2:

for calling it itunes i just love it we're so old and she's like it hasn't been itunes since

00:06:35 - 00:06:41 | Speaker 1:

our youngest listeners have been alive oh my god that's you're so right and i don't even think

00:06:41 - 00:06:53 | Speaker 2:

people like the subscribe word anymore you what do you do you sign up i can't remember i think Wasn't there an effort for the industry to move away from the subscription language for some reason?

00:06:54 - 00:06:59 | Speaker 1:

Should I be saying, please like and review us in Apple Podcast? Is that what I should be saying?

00:07:00 - 00:08:13 | Speaker 2:

Sure, that's something we could say. I think that sounds good to me. I was telling my boss, we had our reviews recently, our performance reviews, and we have to come up with these goals. And it's such a stretch to come up with goals that like align with these very specific goals of the company and how we fit in into them and raise the question of whether or not we even do. But one of my one of my goals was to like I put in something like, well, I would like to make a concerted effort to start really understanding our podcasting industry better, because it is true. Like you and I are kind of a couple of old radio guys who came. Even though you were one of the earliest podcasters out there starting in 2008, we were big on iTunes. Yes. A lot of our references are still very and we approach this more like a radio show than any than a lot of other podcasts. So I said that that was going to make a concerted effort to do that. And then over the course of the year, I did very little, except I told her I signed up for the hot pod newsletter. I said, so if you want to start quizzing me on the Hot Pod newsletter once a week, I promise you that my answer will almost always be Spotify or Conan O'Brien, because I think that they're taking up most of the air in the room these days.

00:08:13 - 00:09:10 | Speaker 1:

yeah um i uh beth i was having my review as well and i'm trying to remember now i talked uh on the show this would have now been a while ago in the real world time frame of things but how she had the good idea i thought to um to have us do kind of a like an update show every once in a while that kind of explains what the heck we're talking about or what the nature of inside jokes are like the original story on them and she had another um another idea oh you know what she said she thought it would be funny because you know i've been writing for like a couple years now there's like is there any professional training that you would like and i would just write i would like to learn karate and she wrote i think it'd be funny if you learned karate on the show it would i was like that is a good idea yeah yeah that's like if i actually if i set out to try to achieve the goal of learning karate we could make turn it into content and then i could actually maybe check off one of the goals that i'd established i remember so you know

00:09:10 - 00:10:00 | Speaker 2:

my friend josh who is a reporter at new hampshire public radio and he's the type of fellow who definitely he's a very aloof fellow who does not go in for performance reviews much either but you know it's a reality we all have to check off the boxes or whatever and i remember and this goes back this is like 2003 or 4 or something like that i remember one of the questions was they were more i liked reviews when it was like more when it was less open-ended it was just like a question answer this question not just like what are your goals you know and whatever um but i I remember one of the questions was something like, well, what is one thing that you would like to see changed about your position or something? I can't remember exactly how it was worded, but I believe his answer was, I'd like more money, natch. And it might have been the first time I'd heard the phrase natch because it was going back a while ago. And I was like, that is very honest. That is an honest answer.

00:10:00 - 00:10:02 | Speaker 1:

or what is something that you would like to change about your job?

00:10:02 - 00:10:53 | Speaker 2:

I would like more money. That's it. Yeah, I appreciate the direct approach. Absolutely. Maybe I'm going to start putting that in mine as well. Yeah, I think we should. We've got to have that conversation at some point. You know what one of my goals is, Andrew, is for these summer games to stay relatively on target for timing. How are we? Where are we now? We're doing well. Oh, perfect. We're right at about the time we should take a break. Perfect. So we're going to take a break, and then we're going to come back, and we are going to start playing a game that listener Chris sent in. it's described as a summer sound quiz that is the extent of what i know about this game uh and so when we come back um andrew you can explain to me how it actually uh works and we can play this game or at least start playing it uh thanks to listener chris here on the tbtl summer game stay with us all right andrew tell me about the summer sound quiz submitted by

00:10:53 - 00:12:39 | Speaker 1:

listener chris all right well the first thing i should tell you is it is beautiful to look at now Now, I know that doesn't help the podcast listener much. I was really hoping the last word of that sentence would be to listen to. I have a feeling it will be fun. Well, I know it's going to be fun, too. I love the idea of this quiz. But I just want to give Chris, or Reverend Chris, I don't know if you recall, Reverend Chris wrote in last year and submitted a quiz that was the Lord of the Rings. Or it was like a quote. It was from the Bible, the Lord of the Rings, or Shakespeare. and that's what he did last year. It was a great quiz. I do remember that. Yeah, and this time he's put together this wonderful Google Docs slideshow for us and it's based, as you said, on summer sounds. Not specifically sounds of the summer, but it is summertime and it's based on sound. So part one, he has two parts. Part one features audio brand. This is like sonic branding, Luke. Sounds that companies have trademarked so that when you hear them, you immediately think of their brand. So Chris has created the slideshow. Oh, yes. I love this. I'm going to play the sound, and I haven't read the answers yet. I only sampled one just to make sure it works. Oh, I see. So we're playing this together. We're playing this together, my friend, because he set it up in this way. In fact, I'm going to start the slideshow here, and I just want to say, so it says TBTL summer sound quiz with an asterisk, and it says, to clarify, this is a sound quiz done in the summer, not about the summer. That would be a TBTL summer sounds quiz. They are very different. Okay, everybody following that? But I laughed anyway. So part one, can you hear it? A quiz of audio branding. Take a listen to this sound, Luke. And can we together determine what the company or brand is?

00:12:39 - 00:12:39 | Speaker 2:

Okay.

00:12:44 - 00:13:00 | Speaker 1:

Now that one was easy for me, and I assume you as well? Yes. Okay, I got it. I got it. I got it. Yes. i know this mgm indeed right i knew it but i had also checked the um answer so i was a grizzly bear

00:13:00 - 00:13:28 | Speaker 2:

at first you couldn't quite picture it i couldn't picture i didn't picture the lion do you remember the cartoon like the i don't know if it was the i forget where but it's the cartoon where the lion is being very regal and yow yelling like that and then i think it's like is it tom or jerry is pulling its tail that's what's making i mean that's actually mean to lions as a kid i thought That was kind of funny. Yeah, we don't do that anymore. I mean, the good news is the lion then immediately ate whoever was pulling at its tail. So justice was served.

00:13:28 - 00:13:34 | Speaker 1:

I did. Yeah, that does ring a bell, but I can't remember what it was. And it was part of the branding, or it was an MGM cartoon or something.

00:13:35 - 00:13:36 | Speaker 2:

It must have been. Yeah, I think it was.

00:13:37 - 00:13:54 | Speaker 1:

Yeah, I think because maybe Tom and Jerry was an MGM cartoon or something. Maybe. Sounds about right. I didn't like Tom and Jerry, if I can just say that. It kind of gave, you know how you talk about some things in your youth kind of giving you the bad feeling? I feel like Tom and Jerry sort of gave me the bad feeling. I didn't like that they didn't speak. yeah maybe it was that there's a lot of weird noises

00:13:54 - 00:14:19 | Speaker 2:

yeah like the fun of now interestingly enough I think I would find Tom and Jerry kind of entertaining now just to look at the inventiveness of the animation and the scenarios but as a kid if I had my choice and I could have like a wise Kraken Bugs Bunny or an Elmer Fudd type or anyone who just had like they were talking I liked the dialogue Tom and Jerry was a little in a way almost too high concept for me because there was no dialogue.

00:14:20 - 00:14:59 | Speaker 1:

We'll move on here, but I will say, as much as I said I didn't like it, I remember one of the jokes that I found just the most ingenious as a kid. So, you know, obviously I've grown up to being a humorist in my own right, Luke, as many people have described me. A real PJ. You're getting the Mark Twain Award next year, I believe, right? I'm a real PJ O'Dork, as I like to say. I just came up with that on my own, too. But I remember Tom and Jerry Keep that out because I'm on fire Tom and Jerry were finally Getting along in some episode right And they were sitting down to share a meal together After fighting over a ham I want to say

00:15:00 - 00:16:01 | Speaker 2:

fighting over food the whole episode they decide we should just sit down and have a meal together it might have been a holiday show or something and so they sit down and i believe tom the cat takes like the big ham and carefully slices off you know probably opens the cloche right our favorite word in tbtl and slices off a piece for the mouse and you know generously sets it on the mouse's plate and then takes the fork and eats the rest of the ham himself and i was not ready for that it was it it blew me away it was gotcha so you did enjoy some elements of tom and i remember for some reason that joke implanting on me and just being like that is brilliant that is that is just who could have possibly thought of that audio brand number two here comes the sound buckle up i'm ready that's got to be nbc that's right in fact i can go one step further and i can tell you what those notes are do you remember what do you have perfect pitch andrew i don't

00:16:01 - 00:16:07 | Speaker 1:

have you been hiding this perfect pitch from us i could it is nbc by the way where's our bell we

00:16:07 - 00:16:37 | Speaker 2:

got that one right i want to confirm that but um i believe and this could be wrong maybe you google it up i believe the notes of nbc are g e c and the reason you can remember it is because there was a rumor going around that because ge owned nbc that it stood for general electric company and they use those notes turns out that that is not true though because those were the sounds of nbc long before ge ever bought it that's my memory of that am i right my friend it's an

00:16:37 - 00:16:44 | Speaker 1:

andrew w monday on day one of the summer games gec i will be honest exactly the notes i'm kind

00:16:44 - 00:17:13 | Speaker 2:

of into sonic branding i've done some things with genevieve on the other podcast so if you want i could even uh potentially uh maybe take more of a back seat i'm gonna play audio brand number three i don't know how many of these there are by the way so hope hopefully we're pacing this right here's number three oh yeah i know this it's in my after these messages intro i know it very well is that a mickey d's oh wait is that i'm loving it you're right i was wrong loving it i was gonna

00:17:13 - 00:17:35 | Speaker 1:

to say something else look at cocky andy over here well once you knew that the nbc notes i mean you didn't think you could be stopped you know what was that like for andrew what was that 20 second just total complete self-confidence i flew high that day luke yeah you did a little bit too close to the sun um i could be wrong by the way that's just absolutely right but you know what

00:17:35 - 00:17:44 | Speaker 2:

got me it was the instrumentation it was whistled so therefore i thought it was um old spice i immediately went to Old Spice but no of

00:17:44 - 00:17:46 | Speaker 1:

course it's I wonder if Old Spice will

00:17:46 - 00:18:17 | Speaker 2:

I mean that was a little off key yeah I can't hear it there but the thing is I know that we have it we use that as in our little montage to open after these messages I should be able to I should be better than this Luke but and then who and then so I don't know if I can't go back on this thing I think oh yeah I can't does it give you the answer though yeah yeah you are right it's absolutely a mcdonald's then brian cox says something yeah exactly yes exactly okay so

00:18:17 - 00:18:19 | Speaker 1:

brian cox has something withering to hearing

00:18:19 - 00:18:28 | Speaker 2:

oh god i kind of want to jump back into that show he did a round of interviews because you

00:18:28 - 00:20:02 | Speaker 1:

know he wrote a book brian cox did that guy is fascinating like i really i heard him on fresh air And he's not someone who I had a huge I didn't I don't watch Succession, but, you know, I had seen him in a few things here and there. I would kind of mix him up with Brian Dennehy. He's got a strong sort of like the Irish or British Brian Dennehy to me, kind of a sort of serious guy who's, you know, often being annoyed at the antics of, you know, some young person. That's kind of where I characterized him, categorized him. but i mean of course he had this long history in the uk and and a great stage career and worked with all the greats and has done a lot of really great stuff that i just wasn't aware of that guy's got stories also i love that he just he just wasn't like embarrassed embarrassed not the right word he wasn't shy about just giving honest direct answers on top because this was around the same time that that profile of jeremy strong came out yes i was trying to i was trying to grasp But Jeremy Strong's name, yes And so then, of course, that one comes out That New Yorker profile that has him Painted as being kind of maybe a little Bit intense, etc And they're asking Brian Cox about it, and you sort of expect Out of just, like, professional courtesy Brian Cox to just be like, Jeremy is A dream to work with And, you know, I just That's what I'd love to, that's what I'd like to say On the topic, is he's, I really enjoy him I think he's just a great, you know, colleague or something You say something kind of nonspecific And positive, right? Brian Cox is like, and I wish I could do a Brian Cox. Box impression. Andrew, can you whistle the McDonald's theme song to get me in the movie?

00:20:02 - 00:20:16 | Speaker 2:

Let me see if I can get the slideshow back open. I'm skipping ahead a little bit here. Sorry. No, I can't. I can't whistle it on demand. Just whistle it. I can't on demand. Sorry. Actually, that was Old Spice again. There. You got Old Spice this time.

00:20:16 - 00:20:28 | Speaker 1:

Closer to Old Spice than the McDonald's. There you go. I'm loving it. Okay. Well, I don't know. Jeremy Strong really. Oldie but goodie.

00:20:28 - 00:20:56 | Speaker 2:

the bill clinton switcher i'm loving it i'm not saying this to correct you luke i don't care that you misspoke but i'm doing this to avoid the snarky text messages and emails he's scottish he is scottish scottish yes exactly so i did irish or english i did skip ahead here luke and we have 10 of these and we are just about to start number four so i'm gonna okay and he has a whole

00:20:56 - 00:21:09 | Speaker 1:

part two for tomorrow as well oh my gosh this is all part one okay yeah part two is a no more messing no more no more messing about this is and this is fun i don't want to so let's do this no i'm enjoying this very much so this could be the whole week as far as i'm concerned here we go

00:21:09 - 00:21:20 | Speaker 2:

okay oh oh that's hb no i believe that's hbo wait is that the new hbo well i bet you that's

00:21:20 - 00:21:36 | Speaker 1:

but hbo used to start with static yeah but they got rid of that a long time ago but my guess is that they've decided because it's not television it's hbo that they've gotten rid of that kind of like static burst that because that second part is very hbo to me okay we're gonna go different

00:21:36 - 00:21:49 | Speaker 2:

on this i'm gonna say netflix at the risk of being wrong i think it's more interesting if we go differently i'm gonna say netflix click here for the answer netflix indeed whoa the hbo will

00:21:49 - 00:22:16 | Speaker 1:

probably be in here all i know is that when i turn on netflix i tell my my remote netflix And then I just see a picture of Bojack Horseman Because at some point I made my avatar on Netflix Bojack You went deep, my friend I was in a dark place, Andrew Dark, dark time in the pandemic And for me, where I was making So it just shows me And I guess I'm just so bewitched by the image of Bojack That I don't even notice that it's making that sound

00:22:16 - 00:22:44 | Speaker 2:

That is the sound it makes I'll bet you HBO has such good Sonic branding I wouldn't be surprised if that's also in here later We are about to be halfway through this quiz. Here's number five. Okay, let's go. I know this because it puts chills down my spine whenever I hear it. Is that Motorola? No, it is T-Mobile, and I have a T-Mobile phone, and wait, hold on, wait. Yeah, I'm pretty sure that that is T-Mobile.

00:22:44 - 00:23:12 | Speaker 1:

I think Motorola is da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da, like that. Remember that kind of little, or Nokia. Remember that little Nokia thing you could play, like, the snake game on? I think that one famously had the thing I just tried to sing. What this is really turning out to be is me trying to sing other branded audio very poorly. I don't have my pitch pipe with me because normally that helps me. I just have my vape pipe, and that's not on me. That's making me a little confused today.

00:23:12 - 00:23:13 | Speaker 2:

It's making you a little bit off. A little bit off.

00:23:13 - 00:23:52 | Speaker 1:

What if I had been secretly vaping? Like how how shocking would it be to you if the next time we hung out, I just casually pulled out a wand and started vaping on it like weed, you mean, or just like the big puffs of smoke, any of that stuff, just because it's so far outside of what I do. And I don't know judgment on that at all. I just it's just something that never occurs to me to do or purchase or engage with not out of any kind of special, you know, self-discipline or moral code. It's just I think it's something that's very far from identified with me. so if you just saw me all of a sudden vaping wouldn't you I feel like that would be kind of weird for you because it's just not something I've ever done in the 15 years we've known each

00:23:52 - 00:24:04 | Speaker 2:

other yeah it's funny we're at a point though if somebody says do you vape or I vape or something like it's so different to me like does that mean that you're somebody who has a little vape pen and every now and then you use it to self medicate a little bit

00:24:04 - 00:24:06 | Speaker 1:

like that's as in with something that's marijuana

00:24:06 - 00:24:15 | Speaker 2:

just like weed yeah like some sort of marijuana product like that is so different to me than if like the other side of it is like oh you're somebody who's really into vape culture and you have one of those rigs

00:24:15 - 00:24:20 | Speaker 1:

and you pull it out and you take a big hit off of it. And it's like cherry flavored but it's just cherry flavored steam

00:24:20 - 00:25:00 | Speaker 2:

is that basically what's going on? Yeah and I still steal your joke or I think of the joke, I steal your joke when I tell it to myself in my own head when I'm behind somebody at a traffic light and like everything is just normal and then all of a sudden it's like a giant boom of smoke comes out of the car in front of me or steam or vape I guess and you're just like oh I guess a dragon didn't you say oh i guess a dragon is driving that car if i said that i'm happy i did i don't remember saying that but i'll i'll accept credit for it okay uh i want to t-mobile it was t-mobile i was right i have a t-mobile phone so that sound always means like that's also that's their sonic branding which is smart for the commercials but it's also the sound of the phone ringing and their default

00:25:00 - 00:27:45 | Speaker 1:

alarm which is terrible because you're watching tv everything is chill you got both of your vape devices there everything's good then they end a commercial and you hear that sound and you think either somebody's calling you or it's time to wake up and they're both terrible feelings well that was what happened too with of course the iphone there was just the kind of default ring slash alarm setting that they just all came set on and so many people like me didn't even think oh i can probably go in and change this right right and so there's just that certain ring which i will not try to reenact here vocally i'm no uh michael winslow with my vocal range but like for the longest time anytime somebody's phone would start ringing on the subway or whatever it would just put me into a panic because it was also the sound of my alarm and it was just very pavlovian at that point okay i really want to get through this whole quiz yeah i'm we're going to do this here just yesterday or the day before i mentioned michael winslow and genevieve said too many urkels on your team and even though i know it's a different winslow reference i couldn't love it more okay here's number six okay now that's that one that's hbo that's apple oh that's apple i'm not an apple guy that's apple imac g3 according to this wow i love that we love the specificity that's one wrong for me i'm gonna go right into number seven here okay oh this is interesting i know this one i know i'm behind sorry so we know this i was gonna say mgm again but that's the lion yeah no no this is do you want me to say it or do you want to do it to it my dude 20th century fox 20th century fox with the big like spotlights shining you and what is it And now it's just Fox, right? Like everything is just Fox now, even though they got rid of the 20th century. Yeah, because we're in the 21st century. I remember that becoming a thing. And I think they became 21st century Fox for a little bit. And then they just lost the whole century thing. I think. Are they Fox Searchlight now, though, I think? Oh, maybe. Yes. Or is that a sub brand of their more boutique film? I am the last person. If it's not A24, Andrew, I didn't see it. OK, here's number eight. Oh, that's another tech. That's Intel. Not Intel. What is that? Intel. It is Intel. I only, well, that's what my Intel processing chip, that's the sound it makes in my various devices when I turn it on. Well, that's what it said on Ask Veeves. Yes, it is indeed Intel. You're absolutely right. And look at us. Oh, we're not at the end yet. We have two more to go. Here's number nine. Oh, okay. This is so good. I love this game.

00:27:45 - 00:27:47 | Unknown:

Come on, buddy. Okay.

00:27:48 - 00:30:48 | Speaker 1:

This is a long one. Oh, THX. Oh, my God, Andrew. I always mix this up. That's right, in the theater, somehow heartbreak feels better here. I always mix up THX with Dolby in the sense that when I was a kid, and you'd go to a cool movie theater, they would play that THX thing before the movie. You're about to hear this in THX. But then there you had the poster for, I think it was Dolby, where the kid is sitting in the easy chair but getting blown away by the intensity of the cool Dolby thing. Was it Dolby or Maxell or something? But in my mind, THX and whatever that poster was with the kid getting blown away had all kind of mingled together. Even George Lucas's beard looks normal here. Okay, so I believe that is George Lucas's THX. Let's see if I got the letters right. THX in diddly do my dude nice now here's the question yep i didn't get it wrong you got it right but i didn't guess can i just ride on your coat absolutely we're a team on this one can i get on the magic carpet and ride in the words of kevin collabro we won't be able to be a team throughout the two weeks so let's take it where we can get it camaraderie let's kick the summer games off in a friendly fashion exactly i am not keeping score you and i are like tom and jerry when they were finally sharing a ham together. But I have a strong feeling you're going to steal that ham. Okay, here it is. When I'm a cartoon mouse, I am allowed to eat ham. Cat. Oh, I see. Oh, because you don't eat meat at all, right? In real life, I generally don't. I wouldn't say I never do, but it's not super freaky. Is this weird? Would a cat or a mouse even want ham? I know. You'll wonder. Although, look, if a cat's going to eat a frigging rat. Yeah, a cat would go for ham. If you give it a juicy ham, it's probably – I'll tell you who you don't want to give a juicy ham bone to, a yellow lab named Rudy. We lived in Port Townsend. We did a huge Easter get-together, and it was very, like, pretty fancy. We, you know, set – special like you know tablecloth and linens and things we just kind of wanted to be fun and upscale and that was the one that my mom famously showed up with a box of discounted go-gurts fresh off of grocery outlet it was like where should i put the go-gurts where should i put the easter go-gurt yeah the classic these ones are tahiti orange crush go-gurts like you know you have at easter anyway uh i we after the after the ham uh was had all been you know kind of removed from the bone or whatever or eaten so there's just bone left over and we gave it to rudy and it was like it was like a cartoon right it was like what is the thing that a dog would pretty much just like salivate over in a cartoon it'd be like a ham bone right would have to be at the top of the list it must have just been way too salty for her or something because she just

00:30:48 - 00:31:27 | Speaker 1:

not on it not on she was in her absolute glory right up until she was standing thankfully in the yard not in the house and shot liquefied number two i would say conservatively seven to eight feet from her body and looked back at it in horror her mind trying to comprehend what it was seeing coming out of her own backside no was she like one of those water rockets did she start shooting her she startled herself and just looked back in horror at what was going on and I believe that continued for about the next two hours

00:31:27 - 00:31:57 | Speaker 2:

they left her outside for a while on that one and then you just moved and then you said you know what I'm moving to Portland okay here it is audio brand number 10 final clue here final question is this one oh no oh i think i know i think i know oh i know is it pixar i know it's i think it's pixar that's funny i don't know those sounds but i can picture the little lamp walking the lamp

00:31:57 - 00:32:12 | Speaker 1:

jumping on the is the lamp is jumping on one of the letters right isn't that kind of i don't know i honestly don't know i haven't seen that many i think it jumps on the eye i think the lamp tries to stomp on the eye and then eventually the light from the lamp becomes the dot over the eye in

00:32:12 - 00:32:33 | Speaker 2:

in a version that i remember it is indeed pixar so there you go we both won everybody wins the chris win the chris wins we win the listeners win that was so fun chris thank you and again i can't stress enough how beautiful this gd quiz uh is as far as the visual presentation i mean if

00:32:33 - 00:34:57 | Speaker 1:

If it looks half as good as it sounded, I mean, I genuinely think that was a really good way to kick the games off because that was something fun that people could play along with. I feel like people are out, you know, it's summertime. Maybe people are road tripping, doing what have you. As I wrote a while ago on Twitter, it's summertime, which means it's time to gather together with family and watch people cut up watermelon in really weird ass ways on Instagram. That's just mostly what I do now is just watch sped up videos of people cutting up watermelon in unexpected fashions. One of these times it's going to be cake and it's going to piss you off. Yeah, it will. Thank God that hasn't happened yet. Ruined my whole summer. let's thank our daily donors who are making today's edition of the summer games possible and really tbtl writ large indeed with their generous monthly donation and we are so appreciative of that. We really appreciate folks like Rob Rumberg out there in the Philadelphia PA. Rob, I believe checked in on this musician that I had gotten kind of interested in who also, it turns out, was leaving cookie reviews of like the Whole Foods and stuff. Right. I remember that. I don't remember the name. I think that might have been Listener Rob. Unless we've got a different Listener Rob in Philly. Thanks, Rob. Appreciate you. Also, Julie tasnady is in salem oregon i spend a lot of time in salem now uh because that's where abecca's family lives julie i hope to run into you down there someday lorenzo cervantes is in tacoma washington thanks lorenzo appreciate you megan curtis is in melrose massachusetts thank you megan jason clarendon also in tacoma washington lorenzo and jason get to it y'all I mean, let's get Critical Mass going Listener, Chris Was the Chris who made No, the Chris who made this The quiz that we were doing Is a Chris in somewhere else We have a Chris in Tacoma as well Yeah, that's a Chris who runs the little theater Tacoma little theater Anyway, thanks Jason And then Kate Neely is in Winston-Salem North Carolina I don't mean to be I know we gotta wrap up here

00:34:57 - 00:35:00 | Speaker 2:

And I don't mean to create friction be.

00:35:00 - 00:35:23 | Speaker 1:

between the listeners, but don't you feel like Kate is trying to kind of one-up Julie here? Like, Julie's like, I'm from Salem, and that's good. I'm from Salem. That's good enough. Kate's like, oh, hold my Winston. I'm from Winston-Salem. Like, all right. I mean, Kate, I appreciate the donation. I'm not trying to make it sound like I don't, but it does seem a little extra. It raises the question, why is John Sklaroff, our colleague, does he put these together?

00:35:23 - 00:35:28 | Speaker 2:

Is he pitting the Salems and the Winston-Salems of the world against each other?

00:35:28 - 00:35:30 | Speaker 1:

That's probably what happens here.

00:35:30 - 00:35:31 | Speaker 2:

Trying to generate hot talk?

00:35:31 - 00:35:32 | Speaker 1:

Yeah, exactly.

00:35:32 - 00:36:23 | Speaker 2:

I blame him. Okay, well, I thank the Daily Donors. Indeed. We would not be able to do this without y'all. Thank you, babies. Thank you, babies. So, Andrew, we've got another quiz from, I was going to say Father Chris, but I believe he is the very Reverend Chris. Although, if he turned somebody else on to TBTL, he would be Daddy Chris. what if chris in his role as um uh you know i i want to say i always just want to like talk that all up as pastor because the the kind of christianity i grew up in that's what you called somebody but i don't know if that's what chris does exactly if he's a reverend how that works but what if he just wanted everyone to start calling him daddy daddy daddy chris reverend and daddy are such different yeah vibes for the person that's leading a congregation of whatever

00:36:23 - 00:37:15 | Speaker 1:

that looks like did you not hear what daddy chris said at church this week what game is reverend daddy chris have ready to go for us by the way chris my apologies but daddy chris has for us um a can you spell it audio oh no so are you kidding me what he's done again this is rooted in brands so he's going to he's actually recorded himself i haven't listened to these yet but he's recorded his own voice that's how you get on tbtl um he's recorded his own voice did he record the whole show do we even have to do it can we just play tape of him saying the name of a product that is misspelled intentionally in other words i'm sure these are brands who have fun with the english language and they misspell a word to make it their branding um and we need to spell the product as it would appear on the commercial or packaging if that makes sense so we'll get into

00:37:15 - 00:37:42 | Speaker 2:

that tomorrow interesting i'm excited for that well listen that's going to bring a day one of the TBTL Summer Games to a close. Thank you, everyone, for listening. Thank you for rating us on iTunes. And we're going to be back here tomorrow with more imaginary radio for you. As you just heard, day two of the Summer Games. We're trying to spell things. So please do join us for that. Until then, have a great Monday. Take care of yourselves. Be safe. And please remember, no mountain too tall. And good luck to all.

00:37:51 - 00:38:00 | Speaker 1:

what'd you say i didn't say anything yeah totally no i hear that power out
