That's your spot. Do not move from it, okay? But also, don't be rigid, okay? Try to be natural. And speak to me, you know, conversational, every day, like a friend. But, oh, there's fear here. There's emotion. You're searching for a hero, you know. Will no one save you? But don't hit it too hard. Just throw it away. But with feeling, okay? All right. Oh, there's cue cards if you need them. But don't look at them. Look at me. Okay? But, you know, they're there. So roll sound. Rolling. Camera. Spitting. And action. TBTL.

00:00:50 - 00:00:54 | Speaker 3:

Guess what day it is. Guess what day it is.

00:00:54 - 00:01:01 | Speaker 1:

It's Friday. Friday. Gonna get down on Friday. Everybody's looking forward to the weekend!

00:01:01 - 00:01:06 | Speaker 4:

What is this guy trying to do? Is this supposed to be what Bozo's thinking or saying?

00:01:06 - 00:01:12 | Speaker 3:

What guy? It's Bozo. Bozo did it. Bozo did what? Bozo did the dub.

00:01:12 - 00:01:41 | Speaker 1:

I just wanted to call and tell you guys that while teaching a Zoom class today, I grabbed one of the dead bats I was using as a specimen example and put it on my desk on top of my TBTL sound machine, which proceeded to play Don't Miss the Sausage Fest about 50 times in a row. I tried to talk really loudly over it, but there's no way that a bunch of middle schoolers missed something saying the word sausage. Anyway, that's my life now.

00:01:44 - 00:02:37 | Speaker 4:

Put my headphones on, and here we go. I'm so excited. All right. Hello, good morning, and welcome. To a very special day after Thanksgiving edition of TBTL, the show that just might be too beautiful to live. My name is Luke Burbank. I am your host, as we often say, on these holiday shows. And this is technically still a holiday, I believe. We're honestly not even supposed to be here today. But we are here because we love you and we love creating hashtag content. And here to help me do that on this Friday is my good friend, the longest running co-bro of the show Maybe best known for his despictions of the Brussels sprouts He's Andrew Walsh and he's joining me right now Good morning, my friend

00:02:37 - 00:03:11 | Speaker 3:

Good morning, Luke That has not happened to me in a long time Hot start for both of us now Well, my start was texting you 10 minutes before showtime and saying Well, I overslept, my bud Like, I don't think I've ever straight up overslept for TBTL. I woke up, well, I woke up 15 minutes before showtime, before we were supposed to dial up after a pretty late night of Thanksgiving-ing last night. And so here we are. I sound like I just crawled out of bed, which is true.

00:03:12 - 00:03:38 | Speaker 4:

I actually got a ton of sleep last night and was very chill, actually. And yet I also feel like I'm sounding a little under the weather And also just not putting my words together correctly More on that, by the way, in a moment First though, did you just kind of Did you just have a fun, celebratory Thanksgiving evening? Or did y'all go out to a location? How did this all unfold last night?

00:03:38 - 00:03:47 | Speaker 3:

Well, Vives and I just got into a huge Thanksgiving fight And it just lasted into the wee, wee hour We do it every Thanksgiving

00:03:48 - 00:04:02 | Speaker 4:

It's kind of your tradition. Honestly, there's a part of, I would imagine there's a part of you that looks forward to it because in that moment, at least you see each other. I mean, as enemies. Yeah, but we truly see each other, though. At the moment, you feel visible to Genevieve as the object of her hatred.

00:04:02 - 00:04:11 | Speaker 3:

And I'm not going to lie to you either. It's freaking hot, man. I mean, we burn hot, you know what I mean?

00:04:11 - 00:04:15 | Speaker 4:

Yeah, the fight ended at about 2, and you didn't go to sleep until about 4, my guy.

00:04:15 - 00:04:17 | Speaker 3:

Okay, everybody calm down.

00:04:17 - 00:04:18 | Speaker 4:

Hey, did you win Thanksgiving, Andrew?

00:04:18 - 00:04:20 | Speaker 3:

That actually reminds me. Do you remember?

00:04:21 - 00:04:23 | Speaker 4:

That was a funny text you sent me yesterday.

00:04:23 - 00:04:59 | Speaker 3:

Oh, yeah. After yesterday's show talking about winning Thanksgiving, I sent you a text. I'm hopefully mid-Thanksgiving meal that just said, hope you're crushing Thanksgiving, bro. No, what happened was, so we had a nice kind of, what we often do, we had Thanksgiving at our place. Genevieve made a huge spread. This time our guests were a couple of out-of-town guests. Genevieve's mom from Atlanta and her sister from New Hampshire were here and that was really nice and our friend Aaron Mason who often shares Thanksgiving with us was also here so it was just the five of us, really good food, everything was great throughout

00:05:00 - 00:06:12 | Speaker 1:

the cooking process Vives and I were congratulating each other on really staying on top of the kind of clean as you go process you know I believe strongly that that is a key to not making your Thanksgiving night a nightmare like we're really like making dishes and just sort of like partnering up well before the fight of course of just like you know staying on top of the dishes running the dishwasher once midday and just sort of like making sure that as you cook one dish you still have all of the measuring cups that you're going to need for the next dish etc it all seemed very smooth but somehow after the dinner and this is not a complaint because I love puttering but after the dinner it was just a really big cleanup like of all you know putting away all of the food and doing all of the dishes and and the floor in the kitchen was kind of a disaster from all of the whirling dervish of cooking and so by the time Genevieve's mom and sister left it was already I think 11 30 I'd been puttering around for a while but just barely like kind of cracking the case if you will and so basically i was cleaning until like one in the morning i'm gonna say and our buddy mason hung around um and then after that

00:06:12 - 00:06:35 | Speaker 2:

i needed to unwind for a while so that wasn't andy times well the cleaning did not serve the purpose of your your sort of mandatory and i've witnessed this firsthand like when we were staying in denver recently with our pal john sklaroff uh you you definitely have a half hour or so at the end of the night where you really like to just kind of wind down and this the cleaning didn't

00:06:35 - 00:08:07 | Speaker 1:

serve that purpose no it did i know you'd ask that because we had like mason in the house with us and i was complaining after a big summer party this time that there was a fella who kind of stayed until like four or five in the morning because he missed his bus or something and that felt like a bit of an intrusion to me but i mean mason he spent the night here he's he's like family so and i just put on my headphones i listened to some music i listened to some levitard i cleaned i swept the floor i swiffered the floor like i just felt like i couldn't sleep until all of the the food debris had been picked up i don't like the idea even of a dirty floor like i don't like the idea of living in this house with a couple of cats who are potentially like feasting on little bits of whatever that have fallen in the cracks of the floor i just felt like i needed a i needed a clean kitchen in order to have a clean brain in order to have a clean sleep so uh no it was great i i really enjoyed it but it just took me way longer into the night than i thought then we were probably up you know one of the things i like about thanksgiving too is like what is the random ass shit you're gonna watch after like after everybody's eaten and you're all just kind of like flopped around the television and somehow i know that uh genevieve and mason were watching some party down episodes i believe um but then for some reason one of us mentioned i think he this actor might be in one of those episodes but um the guy who plays lyle david letterman's intern do you remember how we obsessed over that character on this show for a little bit Do you have any idea who I'm talking about

00:08:07 - 00:08:13 | Speaker 2:

I'm googling it furiously To see if I can Oh yeah of course Jimmy Simpson

00:08:13 - 00:09:28 | Speaker 1:

Jimmy Simpson from Always Sunny in Philadelphia right Yes and also Westworld But I think Always Sunny is kind of the touch point there For a lot of people He played this character called Lyle the Intern I do remember And I think it was because he was doing something He's an LA actor or comedian And he was doing something in Broadway And somebody knew somebody So they said, hey, why don't you come on, do a walk on, do a character. And he does this like way overly confident, cocky for no reason intern who comes out and gives David Letterman a really hard time and just like talks down to David Letterman. And there were like these, I don't know, three to five minute little bits. And I think what happened was it ended up becoming such a big hit that even after his Broadway run ended or off Broadway run, he went back to L.A. But the Letterman crew kept flying him out here just to do these bits every week or two. And they're just I'm not doing them justice, but you can watch a compilation of all of them between 2008 and 2009. It's an hour long file that you can watch on YouTube. And we just like dialed that in and just had a lot of fun. And then it was like that's what I mean. Like just randomly landing on something like that was perfect. And then all of it was great. I just went to bed at like 2 or 2.30. So I just was a little zonkered.

00:09:28 - 00:09:42 | Speaker 2:

Oh, that's not, okay, for some reason I figured You had gone to bed at like 4am or something No, maybe I've exaggerated a little bit 2.30 is kind of on the later side But it's not, that sounds like a reasonable Thanksgiving Eve

00:09:42 - 00:10:22 | Speaker 1:

Yeah, it was reasonable And then our lives are a little bit, I don't have time to get into it now Our lives are a little bit, my mornings are interrupted now with the cats Because they need to be fed at like 6.30 or 7 and they wake us up, and then the little one is tearing around the house constantly. moment this morning where he jumped off the the high bed frame or the high what you call headboard above me and like kind of scraped my face and i was so angry i almost told genevieve i was going to send him to the glue factory where he was going to have to wear a little he's not going to fetch much of a price kitty no no he's going to work i mean he was going to go to the work at the glue factory and he's going to be on the glue assembly line oh well then actually you know i mean the

00:10:22 - 00:10:27 | Speaker 2:

average life of a cat let's say 20 years you could get like 19 yeah good years of labor out of him

00:10:27 - 00:10:31 | Speaker 1:

yeah actually that might not be a bad cute little like kitty hard hat little punch out at the end

00:10:31 - 00:10:36 | Speaker 2:

of the desk get on the kitty bus but then the the whole glue factory kind of turns into a gay

00:10:36 - 00:10:40 | Speaker 1:

nightclub like in the simpsons like in the simpsons we work hard we play hard but we play

00:10:40 - 00:10:45 | Speaker 2:

hard yeah and then cnc music factory starts playing but this is i like this for bingo

00:10:45 - 00:11:12 | Speaker 1:

in all honesty like it's one of those things where like yeah 2 30 or whatever isn't super late but then i probably was up for like probably an hour this morning at some point between like the feeding and the dealing with the cats and whatever, and then I probably fell back asleep around 7.30 or 8 or something and then just sort of overslept. So that's where I'm joining you from today. But I had a really great time, and I appreciate you being patient with me as I come croaking in here this morning.

00:11:12 - 00:11:23 | Speaker 2:

Believe me, I have pushed the start time of the show back many a time for less family-friendly and fun reasons as just like I was up cleaning the floor Thanksgiving night.

00:11:23 - 00:11:27 | Speaker 1:

Oh, the floor looks good, though. No regerts, Luke, at all.

00:11:27 - 00:14:21 | Speaker 2:

like waking up to the clean kitchen is wonderful i had a really nice um day yesterday it's considering that i wasn't at my family's house for the usual thanksgiving get together which was as i mentioned on the show recently was because unfortunately like a lot of people in my family were getting sick with whatever the thing is that's going around that is not covid but is also not great and we just sort of were getting down to a very kind of a small number of people like usually there's like maybe 30 folks there or something it was getting down to being like seven or eight and so uh the thing i was especially sad about missing was the watching the macy's parade with my daughter and making fun of everything and um so we zoomed and did that and it was actually really fun so i just set my laptop up on a chair and she had her computer going and we just watched the parade and and kind of gabbed so that was fun um and then i ended up um in the kind of uh late afternoon early evening heading down to salem where becca's family was doing a big their big traditional thanksgiving thing which was really fun and really like interesting because i've just i've only done thanksgiving at my family's house you know for my whole life maybe with the exception of the pandemic year where i did one at home but i've never been to someone else's because you know a family particularly a family like hers there's a lot of kids a very very close-knit family there are all of these traditions right you have this kind of cranberry relish and you have this kind of lime jello that was actually becca's grandmother's recipe from canyon city oregon population 300 every single thing on the table has a story behind it and there's it's usually like part of a family you know history a legacy something that was passed down i wanted to get king's hawaiian rolls because that's a big deal to me and becca was nice enough to grab a couple of packages of these rolls. And it's very funny because we've just always had that as part of some kind of roll as part of Thanksgiving dinner. It's always actually my favorite part. A roll with an obscene amount of butter on it and then a pile of mashed potatoes with an obscene amount of butter on it. It turns out I just want to eat butter. I'm just into something that's starchy that I can deliver the butter to my mouth with. But it was like I had when I was eating these rolls, it was like an alien had descended into the kitchen of this lovely home in Salem, Oregon, and was eating like a completely foreign substance, like like E.T. went to Thanksgiving dinner. But instead of eating turkey and everything else was like taking like a clear floating ball of smoke and then sucking it in. And everyone was gathering around like, what is this thing this person's doing? And I was like, their roles. Anybody want to roll?

00:14:21 - 00:14:47 | Speaker 2:

Like it was it was like the wildest thing that there were roles at Thanksgiving, which I think just speaks to how traditional people get with these things and how traditional I am. Now, by the way, if somebody showed up at my family's Thanksgiving with a lime jello or this particular kind of cranberry relish, we would all gather around and marvel at it because it's not the typical thing for us is I don't want to sound judgy here.

00:14:47 - 00:15:20 | Speaker 1:

I was just curious. Was there some other form of bread? Because like Vives always makes like rolls. I know I know that you like your King's Hawaiian rolls. In fact, I almost bought a bag, too, because I like those things. it hasn't been of my thanksgiving tradition but i associate that with your thanksgiving tradition so much that it also becomes a temptation but again not a fancy thing but genevieve's tradition is to make the pillsbury little rolls you know the kind oh yeah i love those two crescent rolls i guess is technically what they are they they come in that tube and the tube pops open and that alone it

00:15:20 - 00:15:36 | Speaker 2:

makes it all worthwhile those things are so there's so much butter in those they're like an event horizon they are like something in space that's like more than a black hole in that it's the density of them and i love them i could just absolutely destroy an entire tray of those

00:15:36 - 00:15:40 | Speaker 1:

they're actually a butter substitute you can use them as butter on other bread products but

00:15:40 - 00:15:50 | Speaker 2:

anyway we have as an industrial lubricant we have if you're like working in industrial setting and something is kind of seizing up you can just rub it down with those crescent rolls it's getting

00:15:50 - 00:16:01 | Speaker 1:

it's getting squeaky again al um but i was gonna say but also i could see somebody having maybe a big like crusty french bread or something but there was nothing nothing this family not a bread

00:16:01 - 00:17:07 | Speaker 2:

not a bread family now they did uh they do have a tradition of stuffing but not just like what you think of as the a kind of i guess i would think of it as the traditional way i'm used to stuffing which is in a dish they make this amazing stuffing and then pack it into balls like imagine a baseball sized thing of stuffing and what's great about that is that you then you you bake it and the outside gets really crispy and the inside is really soft so you get because you know normally with stuffing there's like a layer of the top layer gets kind of crispy but if you don't get any of that you're kind of sol in this case there's a lot of surface area on each one to get crispy and then the inside is very uh savory and delicious so everything was incredible like it was a it was a sumptuous feast but um it was just uh it was a new experience for me to be somewhere amidst another family's traditions and to realize that like the traditions of my family are not the default setting in America they're just the they're just the things that we have developed for whatever reason uh in the Burbank family well I just want to say one thing on this I know we

00:17:07 - 00:18:19 | Speaker 1:

don't want to go too long today because as you like to say we're not even supposed to be here today but um I just give me like 25 30 minutes on this no uh I had one regret a little pang of regret uh yesterday as i was bopping around the kitchen and maybe i was texting you and thinking about your thanksgiving meal um we did that whole thing yesterday i'm really glad we talked i hope i wasn't too negative but i enjoyed kind of dissecting thanksgiving through the lens of that new york times wire cutter three things to be a thanksgiving uh-huh hero and i was kind of i was arguing why i just don't think it i was like i just don't think these things work but But then I tried to say, like, who I think this article is written for. I said, this isn't written for Luke Burbank, who's going to be doing his usual family thing, because you guys already have all your roles, literally and figuratively. You have all of your with an L and an E. You have your roles all figured out there. I was saying this article is aimed at exactly the kind of experience you were going into yesterday. Like, you're going into a warm, loving family who's invited you over for Thanksgiving. But you're unfamiliar with those customs Like that's You were the target audience for yesterday's show I feel like

00:18:19 - 00:18:37 | Speaker 2:

And so are you saying that I should have then Brought my own apron Brought my own Tupperware And what was the third one? I think bring a stain stick I should have brought a stain stick My own apron And my own Tupperware I mean that must have been why I didn't win Thanksgiving

00:18:37 - 00:18:40 | Speaker 1:

Did you crush it though, bro?

00:18:40 - 00:19:59 | Speaker 2:

By the way, I'm sorry about my voice We need to take a quick break. When we come back, I want to explain what's going on with this situation because it's, well, it's potentially touch and go. So let's do that. Let's take a very short break here on this Friday after Thanksgiving show, and then we'll be back with a little bit more. I usually say much more, but in this case, a little bit more. I've got to preserve these golden pipes, Andrew, because I may be falling under the weather. So stay with us here on TBTL. hello and welcome to top story so the part of the reason that i didn't end up going to my family's get-together was because i was very worried about getting sick which is atypical for me i i am very blessed to have a pretty decent immune system i just don't get sick that often and i don't Because I've been privileged enough to generally ward off those things, I also don't live my life afraid of getting sick. I've never been that person who's like, if someone's got a sniffle and I'm like, don't bring that crud in here to work. That's just not my move. And yet, because I have this gig Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of next week, that's a big part of my year. And there's a lot of other people that are now.

00:20:00 - 00:21:44 | Speaker 1:

relying on this thing to happen out at a major software company I don't even know if that's really what they do anymore I don't understand the business model but I was not going to my parents house also because even if it was going to happen and like my mom was just coming off being sick I was worried that I was going to maybe get get sick or something and so everybody in Becca's family was hale and hearty and everything was was fine so I felt comfortable going down there but I woke up this morning with just a little bit of a sore throat and some sneezing just the very very beginning inkling of a cold now it's the time of year when people get cold and I'll be honest with you at this very moment I feel mostly fine but the terror that swept through me because of thinking because like Becca had the sore throat version of this a few weeks ago and she said it was the most sore her throat has ever been in her life like went to the doctor to see if she had strep which she didn't but it was like just the kind of thing you can't push through there's like a cold like i have a little bit of a cold and then there's like i'm debilitated from this and i woke up this morning and thought oh my gosh there's a tickle in my throat i just sneezed six times much to bubbles shock and consternation and um oh maybe on monday's show we can talk about that too because i just got bubbles back after like 15 days or something and she is a menace to society and i spell that with the number two like john singletary does um she is i don't know man she it's like i feel like she's like one of those chimps that you get and they're really cute they wear a diaper and they hang out and then one day they're a freaking massive strong beast that maybe

00:21:44 - 00:21:57 | Speaker 2:

is unsafe for you to have in the house i have some big cat news for you not big it's small cat news In the grand scheme of things If you love cat talk I think Monday is going to be the show for you I'm very excited to tell you about something

00:21:57 - 00:22:24 | Speaker 1:

But anyway I immediately freaked out Now I don't know anything About personal health Because I don't ever get sick So I don't know what to do So I immediately texted Becca And I was like I think I'm getting a sore throat And she was like Zycam Hot ham water No, she said hot lemon water with honey, lots of fluids, no alcohol. I was like, well, let's call that a.

00:22:26 - 00:22:30 | Speaker 2:

Why does everything have to be no alcohol? Why is everybody starting with that?

00:22:30 - 00:23:53 | Speaker 1:

I know, it's the Friday after Thanksgiving. I kept it very chill last night. Can I make myself a hot toddy during the World Cup or something? But anyway, so I don't know if I should be embarrassed of this or not. I am one of the most reliant people in America on the service known as DoorDash. It's probably not great for my carbon footprint. There's some real questions about the gig economy. We also do ads for DoorDash sometimes, so I don't know. Sort it out for yourself, how you feel about all that. But I thought I was thinking I don't want to get in like I was in some sweats and a T-shirt. I was like, I don't want to get dressed, go downstairs to the freezing cold parking garage, get in my car drive to a cvs possibly getting other people sick or getting myself more sick or something and i realized oh i could door dash this medicine to my house this zycam which is basically just zinc it's just like a chewable it's like a vitamin c tablet but it has zinc in it and it's supposed to depending on which website you're reading help you get in front of a cold if you take it right when the symptoms are sort of coming on. And you know me because I don't do anything halfway. I'm ordering like each different flavor in case like maybe the mango one is more effective than the citrus one. Like I mean, as if that would matter. And also they have these like sprayers like remember the old school like Afrin?

00:23:54 - 00:23:54 | Speaker 2:

Yeah.

00:23:54 - 00:23:59 | Speaker 1:

They have something that looks like that, although it isn't more on that in a moment. Afrin.

00:24:00 - 00:24:01 | Speaker 2:

Sorry. Afrin.

00:24:01 - 00:26:58 | Speaker 1:

That's a great joke. I can't believe that they He canceled Gilbert Godfrey from his Afrin ads. I know. It's ridiculous. You can't say anything anymore. But so the thing is I was also cold when I woke up. So I order the stuff, and then I realized I order the Zycam from like a CVS type of deal. And DoorDash, I'm guessing you do it so much less frequently than me, but there's a thing called DoubleDash now where basically you order something, and then they go, hey, if you want to get stuff from these other stores, we'll just have the Dasher stop by that place too and get those things. and then you just add some tip you know they they give you a like here's the percentage of tip you need to do now because you're this person's doing more work um and usually i don't avail myself of that because i might be ordering like a pizza on doordash and then it's like you can also get voodoo donuts and salt and straw ice cream if you order in the next eight minutes and i'm like gross no but in this case i realized becca had said you should get some lemon and squeeze that in your hot ham water, and I didn't have any lemon so i thought i'll just have this person also swing by the safe way and grab a couple of lemons now usually when i do something like this the same person grabs all the stuff somehow in this case it got assigned to different people so i am now freezing cold so i bundle up i put on these really thick sweats i put on these wool socks i put on a t-shirt and then i put on this like um kind of striped warm like sweatshirt and i put on this red ski cap that i got from the southeast rowing club in san francisco where i did that cold water swimming and i so the first door dash person shows up and i go to go get the stuff from them and it's the zycam and the elevator is broken because the elevator is always broken in my building so i'm in my flip-flops i flip and flop my way down five flights of stairs and the person's very nice they're standing in the lobby i've buzzed them in i get the stuff thank you so much i said oh you were not also the person that they had swing by safeway and she said no so okay so i get my zycam flip flop my way back up five flights of stairs go into the and the the person giving me the stuff was very nice but looked at me kind of like huh wonder what's going on with this guy i don't think so really because i not in a bad way not in a bad way just in a like i i thought i perceived let me let me just give the the next phase of this though which is i get the medicine i put it down and right away my phone goes bling uh the other guy the guy arnold is here and the problem was i wanted to call him to see if he had gotten in the building successfully but that was going to necessitate me saying hey arnold which i felt like he's tired of that joke by now but hello arnold seems overly formal so i went with greetings sir arnold salutations messer arnold i really thought about this i was like do i say hey arnold it's luke um i'm coming downstairs right now sorry the elevator's broken so now i go i have to he's in the lobby i have to go back down the elevator

00:26:58 - 00:29:56 | Speaker 1:

or back down the stairs again in my flip-flops and this whole time i'm thinking i don't know if this is good for me or not if i am getting sick like i'm getting almost a full workout here like i'm getting something close to an actual workout from doing this and uh he now has the lemons and i got some like um vegetable broth soup for later in case that's going to help and i get the stuff from him and he's also very nice and i feel like maybe is he giving me a look too and i get back upstairs and i go into the bathroom to um set up the zycam and everything and i look in the mirror And I realized I look exactly like Steve Zissou in the Life Aquatic The slightly flu-y Steve Zissou Because I got this red hat on I got this stripy sailor shirt on And I think I'm on flip-flops I'm huffing and puffing coming out of the stairwell I think I was just presenting it I'm also ordering medicine I was wearing a mask, by the way because I debated on the mask thing because I wanted to wear the mask to make sure there was less of a likelihood of me spreading whatever I have to other people. But I also worried that if I emerge from that stairwell, I've just bought $40 worth of medicine and I have a mask on. Is that person going to think, this person is just riddled with some kind of sickness that they're trying to give me? I didn't want to look more sus than I felt like I already was. So I did go with the mask. out of, you know, an abundance of caution. So I've got the, I've now, up to this point, I have eaten. You're only supposed to eat one of these Zycam tabs and then wait three hours. I ate two of them. The Afrin nose spray is, it's kind of a bummer. It's not like a spray, like, it's not a mist. I think they stopped that because it was addictive. And I'm going to be honest with you. I was kind of looking forward to doing a little bump of Afrin. I thought that'd be kind of fun. No, it's just like a gel. It's weird. It's like a gooey hair gel that I guess you just swab around inside your nostrils, and then it just comes back. What's happening to me this morning is it's just slowly—I just rubbed a little bit around inside my nostrils, and now it's just slowly working its way out. Oh, that's weird. I'm sorry. Do you use a swab? It's not a swab. It looks exactly like that thing, except you don't squeeze the bottle. there's a little kind of handle on top of where the nozzle is, and you pull that down. And I was expecting that just to send a very satisfying of like spray, and then everything opens up. I mean, there's a reason why it was addictive. There's a reason why they got rid of it. And also, Andrew, there's a reason why I was kind of low-key looking forward to it. And none of that worked out the way I was hoping. But anyway, so I have now consumed like two gigantic mugs of hot lemon honey water tea. I have taken two Zycams.

00:29:56 - 00:30:02 | Speaker 1:

I have put that bizarre gel in my nose. And I guess I'm just going to see how it goes after this.

00:30:02 - 00:30:10 | Speaker 2:

Yeah, I understand. And I don't want to get too much into your personal business. But, I mean, this gig that you do is a really big gig that you do every year.

00:30:10 - 00:30:19 | Speaker 1:

I misunderstood. I thought it was an anal delivery system initially. I'm just glad I bought two of those Zycam things. Because one of them is pretty much done now.

00:30:20 - 00:30:53 | Speaker 2:

Anyway, yeah, I know this is a really big deal for you. And also, like, not only is it a big deal for you, because you do this thing yearly, right, I think? Yeah. every couple of years but also just like this is the type of thing where there's just like a whole bunch of people actually this is a good question then we can move on this is a big deal this isn't a this isn't a hollywood set that you're working on however there are a lot of people who are going to be working on this shoot um if you are sick do they have like do you have an understudy i guess i'm sure it's not called that but what would they do if you were sick i think they would just cancel

00:30:53 - 00:32:19 | Speaker 1:

it honestly because and this is yeah without a doubt of the things that i tend to do this is this has the most moving parts and the most people who are not me like i will be showing up on monday morning at like 6 a.m where we're filming and there will be this is not an exaggeration probably 30 between 30 and 40 people just working on this in one capacity or another so there will be the film crew there will be the sound person there will be the hair and makeup people there will be wardrobe there will be the other actors who have been hired there will be the people from the advertising agency there will be the people who we call the client the people that work for the actual company um there will be so there's there's craft services there is so much stuff that happens probably there'll be somebody testing us for covid as there has been the last couple of years and that's just like a person a totally unrelated person who's sitting at a table whose whole job is to like test everyone for covid and then text the responses to them or the results while you're in your car all of which is to say there are so many people that would it would screw them if i do not show up on monday morning ready to do this it's not even like a cbs story where we have a camera crew and me and maybe the person we're interviewing and we could just say hey sorry our correspondent got sick could we do this on wednesday this is a a huge logistical thing that i dare not just call them on a sunday night and go yeah sorry i'm just not feeling it today

00:32:19 - 00:32:47 | Speaker 2:

And then also related to that, though, is you also can't, especially, you know, I think we all look at sickness a little bit different now. I think that I was the type of person or I grew up in the generation where it's like if you had a little bit of a cold, you power through it, you go to work. Some co-workers who say, hey, you shouldn't be bringing that to work, but we all do it like blah, blah, blah. That's not how we treat this stuff anymore. We think about the contagion differently. And that would be really upsetting to people if you were potentially, you know, they're getting other people sick.

00:32:47 - 00:34:49 | Speaker 1:

maybe although if i were if i were to be feeling like i will definitely i'll take a covid test i i probably won't take one today but i'm not gonna see anyone today it's just me and these two cats uh that i'm because i'm watching becca's cat as well right now but um like certainly before i go up to seattle i'll take a covid test and if i were to take a covid test on sunday night and it were to be negative um and i were to be feeling not if i were to be feeling like i feel right now i would totally go in because i don't i don't feel like i'm i'm not i know what you're saying which is generally speaking if you work in an office environment and somebody comes in and they're sick and they get you sick it's like you could have just stayed home or like that's weird this somehow feels different to me like i almost feel like if i were to just say to everyone hey y'all i have a bit of a cold would we like to still do this thing that everyone has busted their butt for a month to make happen on these three days i'm guessing that the vote would be yes we're all just gonna like give you a wide berth um but i don't know i can't assume that actually so i don't know i i'm just really hoping that this is the peak of me feeling not great um and that if i do feel worse a hot toddy with a healthy pour of suntori toki is just the thing that my ailing system needs just what the doctor ordered just what the doctor explicitly told me not to do all right let's thank some of our daily donors here on this friday before we ski daddle these are the wonderful generous people that we are very thankful for even the day after thanksgiving because they are why we were able to do this program day in and day out. Folks like Chad Riding of Sacramento, California. Thank you, Chad. State Capitol.

00:34:50 - 00:35:12 | Speaker 2:

Sure is. Do you think we've ever had a group of donors that are all from state capitals? I think we've noticed that, right? That would be amazing. I would hope that I would notice. that but i mean we maybe for next year we can start arranging these things that it'll be like everyone today yep is from a state capital and then like everyone today uh is lactose intolerant

00:35:12 - 00:35:20 | Speaker 1:

everyone is from the is from the smallest big city in their state uh-huh right which is what

00:35:20 - 00:35:27 | Speaker 2:

is that the queen city i could be wrong about this but second is it the second largest city in a state is the Queen City? We looked into this.

00:35:28 - 00:35:36 | Speaker 1:

I think I grew up believing that a Queen City was a city where it's the biggest city in the state, but it's not the state capital. Ah.

00:35:36 - 00:35:38 | Speaker 2:

Well, then that would make Seattle the Queen City.

00:35:39 - 00:35:49 | Speaker 1:

Yeah, that doesn't make sense the more I think about it because state capitals are rarely the biggest city in a state. I don't know. I used to know. I woke up late today.

00:35:49 - 00:36:05 | Speaker 2:

Well, maybe we'll look it up before Monday and then we can report back. We'll give everyone the weekend to Google it and then we'll all sort of join up on Monday and see what we found out. Thanks, Chad. Appreciate you. Also, thanks to Claire Walsh in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Any relation there, Andrew?

00:36:05 - 00:36:14 | Speaker 1:

Yes. Claire, I mean, we're not family relation, but we both just love good content, and so I consider that a sort of relation.

00:36:14 - 00:36:23 | Speaker 2:

You're in the family of people who really enjoy Day After Thanksgiving content where the host stumbles out of the gate and the co-host has their mic muted.

00:36:23 - 00:36:36 | Speaker 1:

yes we both believe strongly in supporting the content that that we love and that and that to me makes us family thank you absolutely thanks also to albert kastanich from the arby's district

00:36:36 - 00:36:54 | Speaker 2:

of aurora also known as edmunds washington oh i feel like i can't even tell you andrew i was lying in bed the other night mapping edmunds trying to find the lie in your comments that that arby's an admin and i can't i can't it's not a lie it's true but mail them a letter and write on

00:36:54 - 00:37:00 | Speaker 1:

write their address on the envelope that'll get you there i'm not saying you are factually wrong

00:37:00 - 00:37:50 | Speaker 2:

i'm just saying it's funny because my i mean i really grew up you know going up and down aurora and that was aurora village is the mall that's adjacent to that place and that was where i saw the movie octopussy which i believe was the first movie i ever saw in a theater without my parents around and it was kind of a lot for me like my I had this bad friend Donald Whitehouse he was three years older than me and he and his sisters were like we're taking the bus up to Aurora Village and we're gonna see Octopussy and I was thinking I knew that was a bad word so I was like kind of unsure like I was like is it like a people naked in the movie is it like and also are they gonna let us in I mean I would have been I don't know when that movie came out We could easily find that out But I feel like I must have been Not even 10 years old Maybe 10 And we got on the bus

00:37:50 - 00:37:53 | Speaker 1:

Oh my god dude I was 7

00:37:53 - 00:38:50 | Speaker 2:

I was 7 because I remember Getting on the bus 7 years old again This was what life was like in the 80's For me in Seattle Imagine you have a 7 year old kid And they're like I'm going, me and Donald And his older sisters are taking the bus up aurora what do you call it the e3 now it's the e line that used to be something else but yeah uh we just called it the bus you know yeah in china they just call it food andrew oh my god um so we took the bus all the way up to aurora village and then we and i remember we got there a little bit late because we didn't see any previews the movie was already happening and i remember the scene vividly somebody was chasing somebody else in like um a stand of trees and i believe they had like a knife they were throwing and it was like sticking in a tree or something i just remember sitting down in the theater and thinking i cannot believe i'm allowed to be in this theater at a thing called octopussy where people are throwing knives at each other like my

00:38:50 - 00:39:13 | Speaker 1:

mind exploded but anyway was also part of you thinking though like also how did i spend my entire seven years on this planet hearing how good james bond movies are and they're really not that great that would be years later and that took me it took me a long time to realize that like no it's not that i just don't understand them i don't like them and it felt like yeah it felt

00:39:13 - 00:40:00 | Speaker 2:

like realizing that i was an atheist i do think that the the reboots with daniel craig oh i've heard those are good yeah were a lot like i think i saw like maybe i saw quantum of solace or the casino royale one or something they definitely i think improved them a lot with the kind of the latest iterations are just a little more winky and naughty the special effects are obviously better i just think we're all a little bit more i don't know what the word is like in on the joke now whereas yeah those like you know like um uh sean connery era and then actually i think octopussy isn't even sean connery it's roger moore right like yeah i'm not sure but just that Era of those movies They're just like It's just terrible It's like It's like It's like

00:40:00 - 00:40:35 | Speaker 1:

so predictable sorry to the bond heads out there but i'm with you i don't i don't think that i even and when i was a kid any movie that i got to see was then my favorite movie i'd ever yeah i know i'm still sort of like that like i would just be sitting like on the occasion when i would get to go to a theater and see a movie i would i would leave on a high that i've been i mean i was chasing it this morning when i thought i was buying afrin andrew um and that was probably one of the few times i was like i don't think that was very good i don't know i'm just i'm overwhelmed by this whole thing because i'm a child anyway big thanks to albert for checking in from the

00:40:35 - 00:40:46 | Speaker 2:

from the arby's district i was gonna say yeah what if albert is like the biggest james bond head that we have in the audience we owe some apologies also or or if albert has formed a

00:40:46 - 00:40:55 | Speaker 1:

club to really re-emphasize the fact that arby's is in edmund yeah he's the one of the things i could be doing right now that would make albert the least likely to donate next year he pushed

00:40:55 - 00:41:02 | Speaker 2:

for a gerrymandering bill that actually brought the arby's into edmunds i believe when it's

00:41:02 - 00:43:42 | Speaker 1:

involving an arby's it's called horsey mandarin i don't know we're not even supposed to be here today hey thanks also to nancy nester in albuquerque new mexico i should have taken a left there yes thank you nancy thanks nancy also steven mcconkey is in oh boy silverdale washington now Ancestral home. That's right where, well, you know, that's what's complicated about it. I know I referenced that the other day because our friend Dave Ross used to talk about the Ross ancestral home. But see, I didn't grow up, my parents live, have lived in Silverdale for like 20 plus years now, 25 years probably. But I never lived there because I was in college and they moved. So I do feel a strong connection to the Stephen McConkie district of Silverdale, Washington, but not because I grew up there, interestingly. hmm also thanks to alexandra malo of brooklyn new york do you know i'm going back to new york in a couple of weeks because i was not there enough what do you do another another story another story i'm actually going to westchester i'm actually going somewhere near i'm going to i think white plains or something somewhere near the ross ancestral ironically um but uh so i have to go through new york city because uh that's just the how you get there but i'm going to be in columbus ohio and then heading to uh westchester so maybe i'll i'll wave from the airplane alexandra malo as uh as we pass over brooklyn thank you so much to all of our donors here on this friday for making tbtl possible we i we joke around a lot but i mean this very seriously we are very thankful for you so yeah thanks for your uh your generosity i agree i agree okay about that a lot this weekend i can't tell you ever have this when you think you might be getting sick where you start to you start to lag or you have to feel a little more sick but then you think is this just psychosomatic yeah i think about that a lot like i probably i'm i all of a sudden you the listeners could hear me running out of steam there about one minute into the show and um it was like i was thinking is this me getting more sick or do i feel this way a lot of the time but i'm not tracking it so closely because i'm not worried i'm like i'm starting to feel that little you know like a little pit in your stomach you sometimes get i don't know how to describe it other than it's like it's not a gas pain it's just kind of we always called it a pit in your stomach and it i feel like i'm kind of getting that but i also think i might just be imagining it because i'm worried about getting sick anyway i guess we'll all find out together yeah yeah thank you i'll need it and good luck to all of our listeners thank you for listening have a great weekend we'll see you on monday probably until then please remember no mountain too tall and good luck to all

00:43:42 - 00:43:59 | Speaker 2:

I swear every time this guy talks all I hear is a turkey goblin power out
