Hi, I'm Troy McClure. You may remember me from such nature films as Earwigs, Ooh! The Revenge of Abe Lincoln. The Erotic Adventures of Hercules. The Wackiest Covered Wagon in the West. Alice's Adventures Through the Windshield Glass. They Came to Burgle Carnegie Hall. Two minus three equals negative fun. Man versus Nature, The Road to Victory. Designated Drivers, The Life-Saving Nerds. The Decapitation of Larry Ledfoot. Dial M for Murderousness. Alice doesn't live anymore. The boat jacking of Super Ship 79. Smoke yourself thin. Firecrackers, the silent killer. P is for psycho. Lead paint, delicious but deadly. Calling all Quakers. Son of Sanford and Son. And here comes the metric system. TBTL.

00:00:52 - 00:01:10 | Speaker 1:

All right, hello, good morning, and welcome, everyone, to another edition of the TBTL Winter Games. The problem with starting with that audio of Troy McClure is that there is really no way the show can go up from there. That is the high point of entertainment. Hello, Andrew Walsh.

00:01:11 - 00:01:20 | Speaker 2:

P is for Psycho gets me every time. I always forget that I've heard that joke before, and I always think it's the funniest goddamn thing I've ever heard in my life.

00:01:20 - 00:01:39 | Speaker 1:

I think dial M for murderousness really gets me, really murderousnesses me. But I feel like every time I listen to that intro, there's something new that jumps out at me. The decapitation of Larry Ledfoot. That must have been one of the most fun days of riffing in the Simpsons writer's room.

00:01:40 - 00:01:41 | Speaker 2:

Now, oh, well, that's a super cut.

00:01:41 - 00:01:42 | Speaker 1:

That's a super cut.

00:01:42 - 00:02:06 | Speaker 2:

So that's across seasons, I believe. Now, that tape, I'm glad that you enjoyed it because it was pulled specifically for what we are going to be doing today. And I don't think that that spoiled anything, but this was a quiz idea for our winter game here on Wednesday from listener Flash, who suggested making a quiz. Wait a sec, but not. Not Jen Flash, Andrew. This is a listener. Not producer emeritus Jen Flash.

00:02:06 - 00:02:10 | Speaker 1:

We're a show that has two different people associated with it nicknamed Flash.

00:02:10 - 00:03:13 | Speaker 2:

Yeah, I get, I assume that Flash is a nickname. I don't know if it was a birth name or not, but we do get emails from, for a long time now we've gotten emails from listener Flash. Who suggested this I think it's the Summer Games Rolled on last year but I think we didn't have time To get it in It's going to be something that I'm sort of creating on the fly But it was a seed of an idea from listener Flash Who sent me a Simpsons Wiki page all about the different Troy McClure movies And I'll give you a title Luke So just kind of looking at the wiki here I'm going to give you the title of a movie That Troy McClure starred in And you have to guess what the real life Movie is that it's based on Not all of them have a direct parallel, but a lot of them do. And the example that I believe Flash gave me here is Troy McClure's film Dial M for Murderousness is a spoof of what? Dial M for Murder? Exactly. But they're not all that easy, Flash warns us. So that will be the plan for today, which I'm happy to get into right away. But I might want to start by asking you if you have eaten any orange peels today.

00:03:14 - 00:03:43 | Speaker 1:

I have, Andrew, because that's what happens when we record the winter games. We often record multiple episodes in the same sitting, and I'm going to be honest with you. By the time we arrive at Friday's episode, I will have probably eaten all of the orange peels because I am just nibbling on the orange peels to pass the time. I mean, and doing my job with you co-hosting the show. Sure, yeah. But it's one of those things where every time I take a bite of the orange peel, I think, ooh, this is too tart, but then I just keep eating it. Do you have anything like that?

00:03:43 - 00:03:58 | Speaker 2:

yeah so um is this kind of are reading speaking of flash are we getting kind of close to what you would refer to as shocky cheese or is that a different thing where you're you're getting shocked but you can't stop eating it anyway it's kind of like that because this is tangy this is

00:03:58 - 00:04:08 | Speaker 1:

very it's so tart it kind of makes my you know sort of lips pucker and that whole thing but i'm still eating it and i don't know why because it is it is on some level kind of refreshing and

00:04:08 - 00:04:17 | Speaker 2:

citrusy yeah i'm i'm looking so when you eat one of these things to continue our conversation from yesterday and you're eating the skin as well are you just biting into it kind of like a little

00:04:17 - 00:04:31 | Speaker 1:

tiny apple well no i peeled it i ate the i ate the um you know the orange or the satsuma or whatever you call it the cutie but now i just had or i had peels that are sitting here on the on the

00:04:31 - 00:04:44 | Speaker 2:

desk that i'm working from and now i'm eating the peels okay i had this wrong are you sure and is You said you got this from Becca. Is that what Becca does? Yes. Oh, I pictured it totally differently.

00:04:44 - 00:04:58 | Speaker 1:

She's not a monster. She doesn't just eat Satsuma, peel and all, just like biting into it like some kind of medieval mythical figure. She would eat the peel after she had peeled the orange and eaten the orange or whatever we're talking about here.

00:04:59 - 00:06:09 | Speaker 2:

I know I've said this a lot. On the show especially back when we were Talking more about Game of Thrones but if you read Any of the Game of Thrones books Boy did George R.R. Martin Enjoy talking about The juices of food running Down people's chins and beards It came up so often Luke Would you ever go back and rewatch That series? You know I Love going back and rewatching things because I'm A lazy TV watcher and sometimes I just Want to put something on but not think about it And so therefore I don't want To put on something I haven't seen Before or that I have to concentrate too much on Yet And I'm not trying to be super negative Here I hope that other people enjoyed it more Than I did but I found the End I have such negative Associations with the end of that Series and how the story sort of wrapped Up that It doesn't seem worth it to me just to put one On like I'll put on a random Sopranos I'll put on a random Sopranos but there was something About the last season or really The last couple of seasons of that show that I just thought got so off the rails that it kind of retroactively makes me kind of not so interested in the earlier seasons, which were amazing television and storytelling.

00:06:10 - 00:06:18 | Speaker 1:

Right. I mean, I have to say the first episode of Game of Thrones when Ned Stark, what did you like to call him back when we were doing this show?

00:06:18 - 00:06:32 | Speaker 2:

Oh, when I didn't, it was before I'd read, read really anything about it. You said something about the show Game of Thrones. I said, oh yeah, it's like Ted Sparks of Somerdale. and I was not trying to be funny I was really that stupid

00:06:32 - 00:07:02 | Speaker 1:

when Ted Sparks of Somerdale has to go out to you know basically do this execution of somebody just the tension and the acting and everything it was just so I was immediately hooked but yeah by the end when it got real dragony although I've been hearing now some folks saying that the House of the Dragon or whatever the new one is actually pretty good and that believe it or not it's not all dragons even though that's the name um which would which would maybe which would cause me to

00:07:02 - 00:07:34 | Speaker 2:

maybe consider watching it i heard that the first season like even like the biggest like kind of fans of the franchise who are kind of defending it i've heard them sort of say well the scenery is beautiful and also um unless i'm confusing that with the the prequel to the or the the side story of the lord of the rings i might be confusing that one but i've heard other people saying this house of the dragon thing it's really really slow but the first season is all set up and the writers warned us of this and then things are going to get good in season two which is a weird way of

00:07:34 - 00:08:21 | Speaker 1:

promoting your show right yeah i don't know i mean see we record these in advance so i don't know exactly what i do actually know what i'm doing right now andrew i was going to say i don't know if i've caught up on uh the white lotus or any of these other series that we've talked about that i need to get into which are higher on my list than say the house of the dragon but what i'm really doing right now is freezing my freezing my uh stuff off as i work on this adu slash studio project at this house that i'm working on with my dad because week one of the winter games i'm in palm springs but now week one is over luke you've had your fun now it's time to put on a tool belt and get out there and operate a sawzall in probably five degree temperatures.

00:08:21 - 00:08:39 | Speaker 2:

A sexy, sexy tool belt. I think I said Ted Sparks, actually. I was looking at it. I figured that would have been the name of the show that we did those many years ago, but I'm not seeing it online anywhere. Maybe it can be the name of today's show. Hey, could I ask you one more TV-related question, and then maybe we can come back.

00:08:39 - 00:08:41 | Speaker 1:

Yes, but then we need to talk Troy McClure.

00:08:41 - 00:09:49 | Speaker 2:

Yeah, so maybe we can take a break after this and come back again and do the quiz, but um can you tell i'm nervous about creating this quiz on the fly i'm stalling i do have a tv related question for you which again we're recording this a couple of weeks in advance so um i don't know if this will come up on the regular show but i have been um watching i think i'm about four episodes into our flag means death now and you know the taika waikiti project um yeah and it's just like chock-a-block with stars that we love and genevieve i mean genevieve when she watched this series first she was just telling me how much she absolutely loves it and she couldn't wait for me to watch it and i've been watching it and i've been enjoying it i have no complaints about it but i realize i'm not quite as i'm not quite as enthused about it as she is and i just kind of realized this yesterday and it's not like i'm watching it thinking i have some notes i don't i'm i think it's a totally enjoyable show but if they told me guess what you've watched four episodes and we're taking the rest away from you now i wouldn't be like oh no i have to find out what happens i just now what is your experience with this show i would say i'm north of where you

00:09:49 - 00:10:00 | Speaker 1:

are and south of where genevieve is like i had heard some real high praise for it and i love um obviously reese darby the star so good um he's he's i just love him

00:10:00 - 00:10:50 | Speaker 2:

And, you know, he's Murray from Flight of the Concords and Concords, Concord, New Hampshire. Yeah. But so and I like I get nervous trying to say his name, but Taika Waititi. Taika Waititi. Yes. Taika Waititi. I love him. I love his projects. So I went into it with with sort of semi high expectations. And I would say it pretty much came in maybe right below them. I did. I did watch like the whole first season, I think. So that means I must have been into it and I enjoyed it. I thought it was I thought it was pleasant. It isn't changing my life, but it isn't like, for instance, like Flight of the Concords. How do you say that? Concords? Flight of the Concords? Flight of the Concords. That was the kind of thing that, you know, I was obsessed each week with when the next episode came out. There are shows that are transcendent for me like that. This isn't that, but it was pretty good.

00:10:50 - 00:11:53 | Speaker 1:

This is something that, you know, when we did our TBTL holiday party via Zoom a while back, somebody mentioned, I think maybe before we got started, somebody mentioned these commercials for, it's not Kettle One, it's some sort of fancy vodka that are produced and directed by Taika Waititi and they star Daniel Craig. And I had not seen them before, but I dialed them up on YouTube to show Genevieve afterwards. I'm like, hey, people were talking about this. I'm going to see what this is. i did not real i mean i think i'd seen taika before i did not realize i mean this is old news to people but how handsome he is boy can get it like holy cow yes oh my god dude i was saying that to vee she's like he's also hot as black beard in the in the tv show i have just i was just introduced to black beard and so i didn't get as much of him but you know of course He's got a long, dirty beard and stuff. But Veve says, still works. Oh, yeah. No, he is, I mean, he is really the total.

00:11:53 - 00:11:57 | Speaker 2:

He's the full patch. He's a five tool human.

00:11:57 - 00:12:06 | Speaker 1:

A five tool human. If I could, like, sometimes I think about that. Like, if I could look like one person, like, if I could be a certain kind of handsome, that is the kind of handsome I would like to be.

00:12:07 - 00:12:08 | Speaker 2:

Yeah, and it looks like it's going to hold up, too.

00:12:08 - 00:12:11 | Speaker 1:

It has, exactly. He's growing old so. He's never going to be not.

00:12:11 - 00:12:13 | Speaker 2:

He's just going to go from handsome to distinguished.

00:12:13 - 00:12:22 | Speaker 1:

Oh, he's I think he might already be knocking on the door with that gray hair. But anyway, OK, let's take a break. Let's do this. Let's take a break.

00:12:22 - 00:12:49 | Speaker 2:

I'm going to write some Taika Waititi fanfic. I'm going to mop my brow. I'm going to clutch my pearls and take a nap. And then we're going to come back and we're going to do this Troy McClure quiz coming up here on the TBTL Winter Games. All right, let's get into this Troy McClure. Let's get to the part Andrew's been dreading.

00:12:49 - 00:12:50 | Speaker 1:

I'm not dreading it.

00:12:50 - 00:12:52 | Speaker 2:

Freelancing the Troy McClure quiz.

00:12:52 - 00:13:13 | Speaker 1:

I think it's a great idea. I'm just a little bit nervous about pulling this off on the fly and doing all the Googling that may be involved. But let's try this. I'm going to start with one that doesn't seem super difficult. Okay, this was a Troy McClure movie. It was called Give My Remains to Broadway. What is that playing off of, Luke? I can't do multiple choice on the fly, I'm afraid.

00:13:13 - 00:13:25 | Speaker 2:

Well, there's, you know, famously the line, give my regards to Broadway. Yes. Which I couldn't have told you. I wouldn't have known that that was a movie, but I guess my guess would be, is there a movie called Give My Regards to Broadway?

00:13:25 - 00:13:54 | Speaker 1:

Let me see what happens when I click on this. Yeah, it's a, well, no, it's a song. So maybe it wasn't actually turned into a movie. Huh, interesting. But yeah. Oh, yeah. No, no. There is. It was turned into a film. Yes. Give My Regards to Broadway. a 1948 American musical film starring Dan Daly and directed by, oh, Lloyd Bacon. Of course, it's a Lloyd Bacon joint. Oh, a Lloyd Bacon picture? Yes, absolutely. Okay, so now I've got a...

00:13:54 - 00:13:55 | Speaker 2:

Do I get a point for that one?

00:13:55 - 00:14:26 | Speaker 1:

You do. You got a bell. Okay, nice. Is my bell going bad too? See, this one I think is just going to be way too difficult. But okay. Okay, how about this one? Do you like me to give you the quiz? No, either way it's a disaster. The Electric... No, it's fun. We're having fun. The Electric Gigolo. What is the... It's actually two movies, but I'll take one. The Electric Gigolo is a Troy McClure movie name? It is. The Electric Gigolo, and it's kind of a reference of two different movies.

00:14:26 - 00:14:27 | Speaker 2:

Well, it'd either be...

00:14:27 - 00:14:34 | Speaker 1:

It's probably American Gigolo and The Electric Cowboy. I have here The Electric Horseman. What is The Electric...

00:14:34 - 00:14:35 | Speaker 2:

Oh, The Electric Horseman.

00:14:35 - 00:14:47 | Speaker 1:

Does that sound right to you? Because I've never heard of either of those. um the electric horse robert redford jane fonda directed by sydney pollack how have i not heard

00:14:47 - 00:15:15 | Speaker 2:

of the electric horseman yeah that's a lot of uh star power and directing power in there the electric a rodeo star past his prime steals his company's horse and rides into the desert with a feisty reporter a accompanying him what damn dude i'm looking at it this is this is hilarious i'm watching um like some kind of a little trailer for this the outfits they've got robert redford in um are quite

00:15:15 - 00:15:25 | Speaker 1:

something this has got to be on crackle right i'm thinking of the electric horse and streaming now you had said the electric cowboy is that something else or were you just i think i was

00:15:25 - 00:16:33 | Speaker 2:

mixing things up what i was thinking of andrew is the electric grandmother which i brought up on the show before the electric grandmother was my mom used to uh get us movies from the library and i feel like i don't know if this was a vhs tape we had or if this was um or if this was an actual like film that we would watch because you could rent a film projector from the library But there was a Maureen Stapleton plays the electric grandmother And what she is basically is a robot grandmother Who comes to live with a family And if you grew up in the 80s and you saw this It was absolutely burned in your brain It was a TV movie from NBC But she shoots orange juice out of her finger Like the gun at a bar That can shoot all the different kinds of soda water and stuff because she's a robot who's living with this comes to take care of this family and just the scene where the orange juice comes out of her finger is changed the course of my life this only rings a

00:16:33 - 00:16:47 | Speaker 1:

vague bell like you've told me about it before and then i've forgotten about it again but that really does sound amazing and i have a feeling that any other kid who saw that at the right time that's what i'm also clings to their brain but i'm trying to remember what i'm really um let's

00:16:47 - 00:16:58 | Speaker 2:

see i'm trailer the electric grandmother trailer oh okay um let's see the electric that's just a clip from it yeah the entire electric grandmother is on youtube by the way if you'd like to watch

00:16:58 - 00:19:01 | Speaker 1:

i might want to do that i also i'm getting near that time of year where i should be again because we're taping this right before christmas i should watch that old um movie that i was telling you about i think last year the mickey rooney film called it came upon a midnight clear where at the beginning of the movie the grandfather dies and goes to heaven and then he comes back to he begs the uh what would it be michael the archangel the archangel yeah is that who it'd be and to i believe so come back down and at least show his west coast grandson what a real new york city christmas is all about and does it start swoozy kurtz no it's the other one the other woman that i always confuse with swoozy kurtz stable kurtz um here how about look who's still oinking look who's still oinking that's pretty good thank you uh i i guess that would be a look who's talking that would be a look who's talking reference how about i'll try to maybe that'll make this better too if i do the bad impression the president's neck is missing that i mean the president's neck is missing i have for the record this movie i have never heard of before but i think here's a hint it's from a i believe subgenre of movies that were popular in the 70s that i didn't learn about until much later they were about presidential necks not necks so i will tell you that the neck is the word that has been swapped out here the president something else is missing in this real world movie is it a body part it is not a body part is it the cabinet it is it is not is it dignity it is but that's not the movie the movie is called the president's plane is missing and i feel like there were a lot of airplane movies in the early to mid 70s right A lot of airplane disaster movies and catastrophe at 70,000 feet or whatever. I don't know. I'm making that up.

00:19:01 - 00:19:30 | Speaker 2:

This was a TV movie. The President's Plane is Missing, 1973. It starred Buddy Ebsen. I don't know who Buddy Ebsen was. No, I don't know. Jethro Clampett from the Beverly Hillbillies. Jethro, okay. So Jethro Clampett is on a plane. and uh no uh the president's plane is missing an incompetent vice president is in control of the government after the president's plane mysteriously disappears with him on board it must be a comedy

00:19:30 - 00:19:51 | Speaker 1:

and buddy ebbson is playing a jethro like numbskull vice president maybe he plays he is plays vice president kermit madigan that's a great name that is a great name god i wish that were like a ball player from the 90s rip torn was in it oh really all right yeah trying to see who

00:19:51 - 00:20:05 | Speaker 2:

else anybody else who jumps out here um i saw his name um peter graves yes peter graves is there as well he was Peter Graves was he in the he was in the airplane movies right wasn't he one of the pilots

00:20:05 - 00:20:12 | Speaker 1:

oh is that why I know that name I only knew the name it sounded familiar but I wasn't sure let me see I think he's

00:20:12 - 00:20:14 | Speaker 2:

like oh Dabney Coleman

00:20:14 - 00:20:24 | Speaker 1:

oh Peter Graves oh yeah yeah Peter Graves is the main guy he's the guy who makes all the dirty jokes around the kid and he was in he was the original Mission Impossible guy

00:20:24 - 00:20:33 | Speaker 2:

right yes okay I would watch that I also would watch the beverly hillbillies again i love that show when i was a kid wait what yeah you remember we

00:20:33 - 00:20:52 | Speaker 1:

talk about like because i watched so much on uhf tv i watched so many like reruns of tv shows from the 50s 60s and 70s and and today um and some of them i really enjoyed and but some of them just gave me the bad feeling and for some reason the beverly hillbillies i never liked it i actually

00:20:52 - 00:21:07 | Speaker 2:

sort of i watched it but i disliked it was it because they were sort of like they didn't really fit into the surroundings because it was beverly hills but they were hillbillies it didn't make sense to me i was kind of like the cement pond i was like you should adapt like you should just

00:21:07 - 00:21:11 | Speaker 1:

take a moment and then after being there for years and years read the room granny read the room stop

00:21:11 - 00:21:16 | Speaker 2:

making possum in the pot because uh mr drysdale's coming over and he doesn't eat that kind of stuff

00:21:16 - 00:22:11 | Speaker 1:

It just all felt dirty to me. And I don't mean dirty like fresh. I just mean like literally dirty. It had the stank of the swamp on it, I think. I think I had a big old crush on Ellie Mae. Oh, did you know? No, I'm trying to think. I was probably at that time pining very much after Agent 99 on Get Smart, my first true celebrity crush. I had a crush on her as well. How could you not? Barbara, wasn't her name Barbara? Barbara Felden, I want to say. all right okay next one all right i'm looking here how about this one the makeout king of montana um john tester she'll never get this this is barely a thing it was in 1950 this is based on a 1954 movie

00:22:11 - 00:22:18 | Speaker 2:

the make out king of montana but there was a 1954 movie does it have make out in it or

00:22:18 - 00:22:32 | Speaker 1:

montana it has montana in it the something something of montana and honestly i added the article there it's actually just make out king of montana no the and this one is just something something of montana can you tell

00:22:32 - 00:22:33 | Speaker 2:

me who was in it

00:22:33 - 00:22:42 | Speaker 1:

the real montana movie yes i'm looking here It stars Barbara Stanwyck And Ronald Reagan

00:22:42 - 00:22:43 | Speaker 2:

Whoa

00:22:43 - 00:22:45 | Speaker 1:

Yeah my boy

00:22:45 - 00:22:47 | Speaker 2:

The forgetful king of Montana

00:22:47 - 00:23:41 | Speaker 1:

The tagline on the old poster is She strips off her petticoats And straps on her guns Is that a hint Or is that just something that strikes you Both you've never heard of this it is called Cattle Queen of Montana Luke Pop Jones inherits a piece of family land in Montana so he and his daughter Sierra Nevada decide to leave their Texas ranch Sierra Nevada is actually a good like if you're kind of in the mood for something a little bit IPA but you don't want IPA I really like a good Sierra Nevada every now and then as she bathes in a pond along the trail Sierra Nevada encounters a stranger feral a hired gunman who warns her about dangerous indians nearby a product

00:23:41 - 00:23:54 | Speaker 2:

of its time i would yeah i would you would you guess that it probably paints a nuanced portrait of native americans yeah i would assume i'd assume that it handles it i feel like it'd

00:23:54 - 00:24:06 | Speaker 1:

probably be pretty progressive ronald reagan barbara stanwick and of course even in the plot We have to know that she's bathing in a pond along the trail to get a little sexy in there.

00:24:07 - 00:24:59 | Speaker 2:

This kind of old-timey movie reminds me of a story that I was talking about with my family recently. There was a time when my mom and my sister Liz and I and my brother David, who was literally two weeks old, went to Palm Springs randomly. and it was because we had we had taken this other flight on southwest at some point and it was one of those things where you got a free ticket if you bought one and the free tickets were expiring and we were just going like well where can we go with these free tickets and my parents also are in that timeshare club so there was the like there was it was the off season in palm springs it was kind of like still like um winter time so we go to palm springs and the thing was you know these places they're also constantly trying to sell you on the timeshare on even if you're staying there they're trying to get you to sign up for more of it or maybe you're visiting with someone who's a member but they're trying to get you to

00:25:00 - 00:25:33 | Speaker 1:

sign up and i just remember in the lobby there was the guy who was like the the main sales dude had been in a variety of john wayne movies but he was always like the fifth guy standing somewhere behind him and like mcclintock and he had this huge poster board that was like you know from such films as mcclintock and all these john wayne movies and it would just always be the guy who now it's like not in the movies he was selling timeshares uh-huh would be like the fourth guy standing behind john wayne like that was going to be a thing that made me want to buy a

00:25:33 - 00:25:37 | Speaker 2:

timeshare from the guy yet if you were in there you'd still probably hang it up right like if

00:25:37 - 00:25:41 | Speaker 1:

you're in his oh and not to mention i still think about it to this day yeah in a certain way it

00:25:41 - 00:25:49 | Speaker 2:

worked here i have one for you suddenly last supper i'm sorry i'm trying to find out who's

00:25:49 - 00:26:37 | Speaker 1:

in mcclintock now oh i'm sure who's the fourth who's the fourth guy down yeah who's the fourth guy in mcclintock oh mcclintock's great the uh movie poster is john wayne spanking a woman oh there's a woman over his knee and his uh well was she bad you know she just was uh she was getting mouthy she was misbehaving jerry van dyke was in mcclintock oh that wasn't the guy was it that's not the time no that would have been fun no that would have been a big deal also somebody named chill wills played drago that's a cool ass name chill wills but none of these names ring a bell for you as no you have to see the guy i'm gonna keep i'm gonna keep uh clicking on uh these and i'll uh i'll i'll get there eventually uh if i have to destroy the entire episode on the way no what was the uh movie suddenly last supper

00:26:37 - 00:27:08 | Speaker 2:

is that what suddenly last oh my goodness this is a broadway play this isn't you'll never get this i just love the title suddenly last supper but you'll never get this so i can jump in here and give you a different one um after this if you want it's a tennessee williams play okay it opened in broadway in 1958 by the way i think his name was fielden edward faulkner

00:27:08 - 00:27:14 | Speaker 1:

was the guy that was selling yeah because he was in mcclintock rio lobo the green berets and

00:27:14 - 00:27:45 | Speaker 2:

hell fighters say his name again fielden edward faulkner edward faulkner timeshares let's see what happens here um oh he's he's active on the john wayne message boards the jwmb if you're in the know i'm not even kidding should we see what he's been posting on the uh let's see he's been active since 2006 um oh yeah this is definitely him oh my god now here's the thing he i don't

00:27:45 - 00:28:21 | Speaker 1:

maybe you know what andrew this is the problem with uh with my memories that most of them are just like made up or wrong because i'm wondering now i have told this story many times and i've always thought this guy edward faulkner was selling times it might just been a thing where he was like doing an appearance there or something so as to generate interest from you know like my memories that he was selling places uh selling uh timeshares but maybe he was just like he was just the bait maybe they were just dangling edward falconer like a giant piece of man meat in front of those would-be timeshare customers like he'll he'll he's on

00:28:21 - 00:29:07 | Speaker 2:

our um housekeeping staff he'll like make the beds for you or whatever you know i'm also wrong i'm an idiot no he's not participating on the john wayne message board somebody on the john wayne message board has just given like has posted his biography here um which makes a lot more sense he wasn't actually i thought if he was like far enough down he might just like to cut it up with fans in his elder age but i think i was wrong about that let me give you one more of these please um what was the um by the way what was the broadway oh i never told you suddenly last summer was the broadway play uh beautiful and i think i've already closed that tab because i went searching for um your timeshare guy um tennessee williams off broadway 1958 whatever uh how about

00:29:07 - 00:29:43 | Speaker 1:

this was definitely the guy by the way i'm looking i'm looking at um at edward falconer's um his personal website and he has a very loving tribute to his wife who he was married to for many years like 59 years and um and she passed away in 2013 and uh they lived in palm desert california oh there you go so you were right so vindicated my guy all right you won the quiz i did hey congratulations luke also i learned about the ask ed feature on this website i can email him falcons nest 2 at yahoo.com oh just wow he's just got it out there is he and then let's just make

00:29:43 - 00:29:56 | Speaker 2:

sure i'm publicizing the website oh this is nice um not to be dark here but i went to wikipedia to see if it was an is or a was and i'm happy to report that is he is still with us excellent

00:29:56 - 00:30:29 | Speaker 1:

Okay, well, this has turned, again, into a show about Edward Faulkner. Come on. nobody expected one more can we get through one episode sure this one well here I'm going to read one to you that's obvious the Muppets go medieval which I love but you don't have to guess that one because obviously it's one of the Muppet movies but then how about this meet Joe Blow that could be one of two movies that would have to be is that meet Joe Black that is one of them or meet John Joe yeah so what do you know about meet Joe Black because I only know the title I wouldn't have even known Brad Pitt

00:30:29 - 00:30:41 | Speaker 2:

i don't know what happens is is it is it a thing is it supernatural is is somebody is joe black is that like the angel of death or something i mean i'm just guessing well interestingly so it

00:30:41 - 00:30:54 | Speaker 1:

is from 1998 it's brad pitt anthony hopkins the screenplay was um well it doesn't matter who wrote it but it says that it's loosely based on the 1934 film death takes a holiday which also sounds like a Troy McClure movie. Right.

00:30:56 - 00:32:13 | Speaker 2:

I was trying to make some kind of death works really. Death works the graveyard shift. No, that doesn't work. Death. I was trying to do something that's the opposite of a holiday. By the way, I have to say, I was pretty close with my guess. Let's see. Anthony Hopkins is a businessman and devoted family man who's about to celebrate his 65th birthday. However, before he reaches that landmark, he is visited by death, played by Brad Pitt, who is taking human form as joe black a young man who recently died joe and bill make a deal bill will be given a few extra days of his life and joe will spend the same time getting to know what it's like to be human it seems like a perfect arrangement until joe falls in love with bill's daughter so death falls in love death falls death falls in like Let's thank some of our daily donors who are making TBTL possible. I would consider them to be Joe Light. What's the opposite of the angel of death? The angel of money? The angel of keeping the show going?

00:32:13 - 00:32:18 | Speaker 1:

Yeah. The angel of death would be the angel of life, I guess, right? Or the devil of life.

00:32:18 - 00:33:08 | Speaker 2:

Ooh, these are our devil of life donors. Yes, like Kirk Eldred. Sorry to call you the devil, Kirk. But of life. I started us down a road. Of life. Oh, a devil of life. You're a cute devil, like with the little horns. You're a little devil. You little devil, you. Kirk Eldred of Woodinville, Washington. Thank you. Also, thanks to Susan Goodwin of Seattle, Washington. Thank you, Susan. Hey, it's our friend Jake Roar of Seattle, Washington. Jake is a longtime Seattle music fixture and has helped TBTL in a few different capacities over the years with shows and the like. And if I remember right, he was, for a period of time, part of this food truck business in Portland that still exists and has a really good name. They make sandwiches.

00:33:09 - 00:33:09 | Speaker 1:

Something about eggs?

00:33:09 - 00:33:14 | Speaker 2:

Yes. You've told me this. egg sandwiches and it's called

00:33:14 - 00:33:30 | Speaker 1:

do you want me to guess yeah i was gonna see if you okay the man who knew two eggs i don't know fried egg i'm in love oh right right

00:33:30 - 00:33:44 | Speaker 2:

fried egg i'm in love they still have one here and it's amazing um i've never been there but it looks amazing andrew uh christopher it's also by a place called potato champion which has an axe going into a potato and i don't know what they do but i want to go there as well but

00:33:44 - 00:34:02 | Speaker 1:

i gotta say well i don't know what they do so maybe i should withhold my judgment but like that is those are two businesses on either end of the spectrum of good names like potato champion sounds like it's a a play on words but isn't you know what i mean i think it's cool it's it's it's it's

00:34:02 - 00:34:08 | Speaker 2:

not being it's not a play on words it's just saying they win they yes they win but change

00:34:08 - 00:34:28 | Speaker 1:

the way you potato how the way i swear i know i tried to bungle my way through this the other day on the show but i know i saw one the other day that i perked up it was something so ridiculous like change the way you potatoes all gratin it was like so it was a food and it was so specific and i was like luke's right that's what they do in advertising these days thank you also to

00:34:28 - 00:34:59 | Speaker 2:

christopher cheryl in madison wisconsin very very cool town of madison wisconsin i was once at a bar wait was that madison or milwaukee you're going to know why i don't remember which town it was because i went to a bar called the office and i had done i think it was actually milwaukee but i it was like i had a flight at like 4 p.m and i went to this bar the office and i just and then like i'd done all my work and i had gone for a run and i was like gonna just have a beer before i went to the airport and i

00:34:59 - 00:35:29 | Unknown:

00:35:00 - 00:35:10 | Speaker 2:

liked this bar the office so much and i became such pals with everyone there and i had so many refreshing afternoon drinks that i missed my flight home that's never happened to me before

00:35:10 - 00:35:32 | Speaker 1:

i know somebody where they call me the potato champion i know somebody who went into the program to stop drinking like i was a kid and this was an adult and i remember them telling me he was going in the program and one of the things was that i think that was it it was somebody who was at an airport and then bellied up to the bar started drinking missed their flight and then just spent the rest of the night drinking at the airport bar and then they were like i think this

00:35:32 - 00:36:43 | Speaker 2:

might be rock bottom i've done that playing a slot machine in mccarran airport yeah but no i wasn't super drunk i just got i was just playing the slot machine and i was like doing the thing where i'm playing the slot machine and i'm looking over at the gate i'm playing the slot machine i'm looking over at the gate and somewhere in there i just lost track of looking at the gate and then one time i look over at the gate and the doors closed and i'm like oh my god oh my god you know who would never do that jose vargas of seattle washington party vargas jose vargas is there hours early that's right flight that's right it's like super responsible thank you and then we have claudia villaman in buffalo new york nice beautiful known for their weck known for their beef on weck and also for uh the of course buffalo uh wild wings which is i whenever i talk about buffalo i tell the story of going to where but uh real actual buffalo or what you know wild wings what do you call them they're just wings they're hot wings buffalo style hot wings the anchor bar i went to where they were invented and i said do you have the mariners game on and they said you got to go to buffalo wild wings at the mall for that i thought okay did you go to so you chose

00:36:43 - 00:36:47 | Speaker 1:

the mariners and a chain restaurant instead of the authentic no i think i actually just i don't

00:36:47 - 00:36:51 | Speaker 2:

think the mariners were very good that year yeah so i think i i think i had some wings at the og

00:36:51 - 00:37:01 | Speaker 1:
