Actually, one thing we do here for fun is we give an extra $50 to whoever has the best comment today.

00:00:05 - 00:00:20 | Speaker 3:

Oh, that's fun. Oh, my God. Man, I could really use that cash, Mark. I mean, that cash could really get me out of a couple of jams. I just... All right. All right. Game on.

00:00:20 - 00:00:21 | Speaker 4:

Okay.

00:00:21 - 00:00:22 | Speaker 5:

Game on.

00:00:22 - 00:00:23 | Speaker 4:

All right, so why don't we just get started?

00:00:24 - 00:00:40 | Speaker 5:

There's a Hidden Valley Ranch party in my mouth. There's a Hidden Valley Ranch party in my mouth. Write that down for your... There's a Hidden Valley Ranch party in my mouth. There's a Hidden Valley Ranch party in my mouth.

00:00:40 - 00:00:51 | Speaker 4:

You wanna write that down? Party! Hidden Valley Ranch! In my mouth! You wanna write that down for the campaign? I'm probably not gonna write that down. Linda? TBTL!

00:00:51 - 00:01:48 | Speaker 2:

well all right hello and welcome to day three of the tbtl summer games there's a popsicle party in my mouth and that's come on get your minds out of the gutters i'm eating a popsicle because as this is being recorded it is scorchingly hot and um i realized that uh probably the only way i'm going to get through this next half hour or so of these Vanderpump Rules speaking of ranch parties, speaking of mouth parties Vanderpump Rules, we're doing a quiz that listener Lauren submitted about that TV show and that universe but if I was going to get through that quiz I was going to need to cool myself down and I'm doing it right now with this popsicle and by talking to my dear friend in the longest running cobra of the show, maybe best known for his depictions of the tall ships, Mr. Andrew Walsh who's right over there, hey my guy

00:01:48 - 00:01:52 | Speaker 1:

You just have popsicles, like, on standby at your place?

00:01:52 - 00:01:52 | Speaker 2:

Yeah.

00:01:53 - 00:01:54 | Speaker 1:

I was the popsicle guy.

00:01:54 - 00:02:23 | Speaker 2:

Sorry, I was trying to. But you know what? I'm old now, so if the popsicle hits any one of, like, I don't know how many teeth. How many outside bones do we have, Andrew? Between seven and a hundred. If the popsicle hits, there might be one tooth that can hang. The rest of them, it's like, ah, ooh, like it's painful. So it's very weird for me to eat a popsicle now because there are so many chances that it will be painful.

00:02:23 - 00:02:53 | Speaker 1:

I will say that when I ate popsicles on the show, this is going back years now, but I was talking about how I could just devour popsicles. And I think I tried to eat as many as I could during the course of a show. I feel like I did a better, I mean, you know, maybe I am giving myself too much credit here. But I feel like I was able to kind of hang with the popsicle a little bit better than what I'm getting from you right now, which is some. You have nice teeth, though. Well, it is true. I did luck out. I don't know if it was genetically or like.

00:02:53 - 00:02:55 | Speaker 2:

Yeah, you have a very nice smile that you rarely use.

00:02:55 - 00:02:58 | Speaker 1:

I'm a grump. I mean, what do you want me to do? Is that it? Oh, I'm just going to smile.

00:02:58 - 00:03:03 | Speaker 2:

Is it basically like you have your teeth are in great shape because you haven't been wearing them out with all that smiling?

00:03:03 - 00:03:18 | Speaker 1:

That's exactly right. You smile too much. You're going to expose your chompers to all kinds of things, to the sea air. Wildfire smoke. Wildfire smoke. You know what? I got to stop smiling right now.

00:03:18 - 00:04:05 | Speaker 2:

Those things are barely, those teeth were driven to church by a grandma and then parked in the garage once a week. Somebody smiled those teeth to church. Okay, it's starting to fall apart. Here is the real point. I have now, I've cooled my body temperature back down to an okay place. I feel really rested, refreshed, and ready to get back into this Vanderpump Rules Everything Around Me quiz that listener Lauren made. I mean, we talked about it a lot on yesterday's episode, but just like really great presentation. This deck with the pictures and just the whole thing, it's just amazing. I feel like we had arrived. We only did two questions yesterday. So we've got to make sure that we hustle through these days

00:04:05 - 00:04:07 | Speaker 1:

Yeah, because I think there's like eight or something

00:04:07 - 00:04:29 | Speaker 2:

Something like that So here we are We're just going to jump right in, okay? We're on question number three Vanderpump Rules Do we need to explain what it is at all? What this is? I mean, if you listened to yesterday's show You know what we're talking about Or if you, you know, have been alive in America For the last two years You might have heard something about this But do we need to explain what Vanderpump Rules is at all?

00:04:29 - 00:04:35 | Speaker 1:

No, I mean, I think we're in good shape Or what the summer games are or what TBTL is. I mean, I think if you're joining us.

00:04:35 - 00:04:37 | Speaker 2:

Or why I can't eat a Popsicle like a normal person.

00:04:37 - 00:05:11 | Speaker 1:

You're generally in good shape. But, yeah, so we are doing our TBTL summer games. We asked listeners to submit various games and quizzes we could play. Listener Lauren, who is just killing it at the quiz game these days, sent us knowing that we are not people who follow the ins and outs too much. Although, Luke, to your credit, more than me, I know nothing about the world of reality TV. So you are using Lauren's quiz. to quiz me about the TV show Vanderpump Rules, which recently had, I'm slowing down because I need to think of it, it recently had a Scandoval, which is why it was on everybody's mind.

00:05:12 - 00:05:55 | Speaker 2:

We'll have you binging Bravo before you know it, Andrew. I know. We'll be making Apple martinis, and we'll be watching Watch What Happens Live, and you'll be dishing all the hot gossip. You'll be like, oh my God, did you hear what Sandoval said on Watch What Happened on Andy's show last night? I assume that's how people talk about Andy Cohen's program. All right, question number three. Vanderpump Rules initially profiled the real friend group of wannabe model actors working at Lisa Vanderpump's restaurant, Sur. Okay. Sur is not named for the French word for under. It's actually an acronym. What does Sur, this is S-U-R, I should clarify. First of all, this is the first time learning that the restaurant's not called Vanderpump's.

00:05:56 - 00:06:03 | Speaker 1:

So Lisa Vanderpump is the main character who started this, not chain, but this empire of restaurants and clubs and whatnot, right?

00:06:04 - 00:06:07 | Speaker 2:

Is it an empire of restaurants and clubs? I thought it was more than one.

00:06:08 - 00:06:21 | Speaker 1:

Oh, see, I don't know. I thought it was one, but I have no, I don't have any authority. I could be wrong about that, but either way, the restaurant in question now is called Sur, S-U-R, and it's not S-I-R, it's S-U-R, like big Sur or little Sur. Right, exactly.

00:06:22 - 00:06:52 | Speaker 2:

And this was, I believe, the first restaurant that Lisa Vanderpump opened, and it's kind of where it all started. This is when we had, as we learned yesterday, Andrew, the backdoor pilot happening, I believe, was revolving around this place. What does SUR stand for? And I want to mention, and I know that Lauren is a detail-oriented person, so this is not an accident. it's also not s period u period r period which technically if it is an acronym i think it should

00:06:52 - 00:07:07 | Speaker 1:

have that right it should probably yeah but i mean when you're naming a company or something i think there's a certain amount of artistic license with that okay all right so like is mad to keep like mothers against drunk driving do they always depict the periods in that you know i believe

00:07:07 - 00:07:21 | Speaker 2:

maybe that's a period of time they did i mean it's you know it's it's i'd say fairly serious uh when compared to vanderpump ruling but um but uh so sir s-u-r what does it stand when lisa

00:07:21 - 00:07:33 | Speaker 1:

vanderpump first started mothers against drunk driving in 1981 you heard it here first okay so uh you want me to guess sir s-u-r this is a restaurant in los angeles i'm going to say

00:07:33 - 00:07:38 | Speaker 2:

that this is no i have i have options oh yeah go for it no no i want to hear what you come up with

00:07:38 - 00:07:45 | Speaker 1:

well okay supremely underrated restaurant is it supremely underrated restaurant

00:07:45 - 00:07:51 | Speaker 2:

no that would i think that's they named it soar s-o-r supremely overrated restaurant and um

00:07:51 - 00:08:04 | Speaker 1:

i went to a dentist whose uh practice was called soars for a while um was it right next to swerve the driving school here in seattle yeah okay uh you have some multiple choice for me i do so s-u-r

00:08:04 - 00:08:11 | Speaker 2:

What does it stand for? A, spicy, ubiquitous romance. B, sexy, unique restaurant.

00:08:11 - 00:08:13 | Speaker 1:

I like that one. I'm going with that so far.

00:08:14 - 00:08:29 | Speaker 2:

C, splendid, uxorious, U-X-O-R-I-O-U-S. Could have used a pronouncer there, Lauren. Splendid, uxorious, or usorious romance. Or, subtle, understated restaurant.

00:08:30 - 00:08:31 | Speaker 1:

Oh, wow.

00:08:31 - 00:08:39 | Speaker 2:

So, spicy, ubiquitous romance, sexy, unique restaurant. splendid, uxorious romance, or subtle, understated restaurant.

00:08:39 - 00:08:45 | Speaker 1:

I don't think there's a lot subtle and understated about these folks. I'm going to go with sexy. What was the sexy one?

00:08:46 - 00:09:32 | Speaker 2:

Sexy, unique restaurant. Yeah. That's the one I kind of think. Andrew Walsh, you sexy, unique podcaster, you. Look at me. By the way, you're right, Andrew. She has multiple places, at least multiple restaurants. Quote, my restaurant, Villa Rosa, is where you take your wife. S-U-R is where you take your mistress, hers, Vanderpump, on one of the earlier episodes. So there you go. She's, oh, and Lisa also has a restaurant in West Hollywood called Pump. And a bar named after two eponymous stars of Vanderpump Rules called Tom Tom, Tom Schwartz, and Tom Sandoval. So her Vegas expansion, boy, Andrew, you were right as rain, and I was wrong as...

00:09:32 - 00:09:37 | Speaker 1:

I think I got this from when I wrote that newsletter and then did a little bit of research about what the show was about.

00:09:37 - 00:10:18 | Speaker 2:

You were so right. Addie only, well, Addie chose, first of all, to embarrass me in front of all these listeners, which is unforgivable, but also only told me about, like, I think whatever the one that Tom Sandoval worked at, I had no idea that it was this expansive, so I apologize for doubting you. Her Vegas expansion included Vanderpump a Pauly in the Paris Casino. And Vanderpump Cocktail Garden at Caesars. That seems like about the right place for the Vanderpump expansion, don't you think? The Strip in Vegas? Yes, seems about right. That seems like a target-rich environment. A lot of folks who would be like, oh my gosh, guess where we're going? One of the Vanderpump Rules-related restaurants in the Paris Casino.

00:10:19 - 00:11:26 | Speaker 1:

Boy, though, I'll bet you they do a business. You know, that's one of those phrases that somebody identified as a phrase that only dads say. And it is true. I just feel like my dad, we'd sit down at a restaurant, he'd look around and be like, man they do a business here like he's always meaning they really sell a lot yeah just like and of course we all know that like the um the margin for a restaurant biz for like a regular restaurant business is very very small and it's incredibly difficult uh have you watched the bear by the way i've not gotten into the bear but everybody's like it's the best tv show i'm not watching no chef i haven't so uh but i was listening to an interview on the levitard show with the guy who uh started the show who actually you know his background was not in television but in in restaurants and oh wow he said um i'm gonna destroy the paraphrase here but um he said something like it's like the only business where the second you buy your products they start going bad immediately and like it's like that's an interesting way of looking at food like the second you invest in the product you have to start moving that product because it's the only product that goes bad immediately you better have a sexy unique restaurant and that's right so i got that

00:11:26 - 00:11:55 | Speaker 2:

You did, you absolutely did. All right, let's see here. Question number four. Lisa Vanderpump has many affectations, but her carrying a beloved lapdog everywhere is one of the more notable ones. Jiggy was her now late Pomeranian with alopecia that needed to wear jackets and sweaters. What is Jiggy named for, that's spelled J-I-G-G-Y, Andrew? Okay.

00:11:55 - 00:12:00 | Speaker 1:

Okay, justice into grooming yellow. Yep.

00:12:01 - 00:12:05 | Speaker 2:

Yes, justice into good grooming, yes.

00:12:05 - 00:12:07 | Speaker 1:

Okay, good. Okay, what are the options here?

00:12:08 - 00:12:12 | Speaker 2:

A is Jiggy named for the alcohol measuring tool.

00:12:13 - 00:12:13 | Speaker 1:

Oh, a jigger.

00:12:14 - 00:12:19 | Speaker 2:

Yes, one of my least favorite words to say. I just don't like being in that neighborhood.

00:12:19 - 00:12:22 | Speaker 1:

I felt you backing away from that.

00:12:22 - 00:12:32 | Speaker 2:

Well, it's also listed as the alcohol measuring tool. I don't think Lauren even wants to write it. B, in homage to the Will Smith hit song.

00:12:33 - 00:12:34 | Speaker 1:

Getting jiggy with it.

00:12:34 - 00:12:58 | Speaker 2:

Getting jiggy with it. Nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah. Whatever happened to that guy? I don't know. Haven't heard much from him. C, a shortened version of Gigolo. These are really great possibles. Oh, I like this. Because from what little I know about Lisa Vanderpump, I feel like a couple of these could be right. Definitely the shortened version of Gigolo and the alcohol measuring tool seem like. Yeah.

00:12:58 - 00:13:03 | Speaker 1:

Well, it's about restaurants and bars and nightlife. So I could sort of see it.

00:13:03 - 00:13:11 | Speaker 2:

But she's also about a sort of a terrible brand of like what she thinks of or what she presents as sexual liberation. Yeah. So that's where Gigolo could kind of be.

00:13:12 - 00:13:14 | Speaker 1:

A dog? A Gigolo dog? Yeah, dude.

00:13:14 - 00:13:32 | Speaker 2:

Like my dog is like my dog. My Pomeranian with alopecia that has to wear sweaters is just such a little Gigolo. I don't know. I'm not putting my thumb on the scale. I'm just playing along with you, Andrew. And then there is one more option, number four, Jigsaw from the movie Saw.

00:13:32 - 00:13:38 | Speaker 1:

Yeah, is that the mean, like... That would actually be great. Is that like the clown character? Yeah, I think that's like the bad guy

00:13:38 - 00:13:40 | Speaker 2:

who makes you, like, you know, cut your leg off or something.

00:13:40 - 00:13:42 | Speaker 1:

I've never seen one of those, but okay.

00:13:42 - 00:13:49 | Speaker 2:

So the alcohol measuring tool, the Will Smith song, a shortened version of Jigolo, or Jigsaw from the movie Saw.

00:13:50 - 00:14:20 | Speaker 1:

I am probably wrong about this, but i am going how old is what's her name savannah vanderpump julia what's her name i don't know the main oh the uh lisa vanderpump that's what i said savannah um how old is she because i could i believe it or not could it be the will smith song could she have grown up like that will smith song i'm you know what i'm gonna buck a trend here i'm probably gonna regret this i'm going with the will smith song i'm going with you are correct that you will regret it

00:14:20 - 00:14:23 | Speaker 2:

You are correct that you will regret it

00:14:23 - 00:14:24 | Speaker 1:

Oh god damn it

00:14:24 - 00:14:28 | Speaker 2:

Yeah no sorry incorrect It is in fact C gigolo

00:14:28 - 00:14:36 | Speaker 1:

It was gigolo Naming a small little dog that suffers from A fur conditioned gigolo Makes me definitely uncomfortable

00:14:36 - 00:16:01 | Speaker 2:

It does Is this now moving you further away from the demo People that will watch the show Lauren writes Lisa has a weirdly sexual energy with her animals It's not just a vibe She straight out calls her dogs and horses sexy boys she named her swans hanky and panky and one of her many dogs rumpy pumpy i quit i don't mean the quiz i mean my job yeah i mean you just don't want to be around it i don't want to be around anymore there's too much stuff there's too much stuff on lisa vanderpump there's too much um how is it funny how is it funny um yeah i i had a sense i've i've never watched a show and i don't know this person but i i've i've had occasion to be briefly around people like her and i've done everything i can to make that that time as short as possible but there's a kind of person who thinks that they're being edgy and sexy by like naming their dog gigolo and by like calling their horses hanky panky or whatever like and this is my personal preference everyone gets like what they like i can't think of anything less sexy and less interesting than this thing that is supposed to be edgy and like i'm just so i'm open in this way And I just love to be body and all this stuff. And like it's just funny because it has the exact opposite effect on my brain that is intended to have.

00:16:02 - 00:16:21 | Speaker 1:

I can't I can't know how to hear any more about Vanderpump. Is that what I got that exactly right? Anyway, you sure about that? You sure about that? Yeah, I do like the way you say body, though. You said that in a way I said it weird. I kind of like it that way. Oh, it's like it's supposed to be well, because that's the sexiest part of the conversation.

00:16:21 - 00:16:31 | Speaker 2:

It's not just like you're saying, you know, B-O-D-Y, right? It's not just body. It's kind of a little more awe. You got to lean on that awe, right? Because there's an extra you in there, right?

00:16:31 - 00:16:34 | Speaker 1:

Oh, I thought it was B-A-W-D-Y.

00:16:34 - 00:16:51 | Speaker 2:

No, it is. You're right. You're right. It's body. Oh, okay. But I was wrong about the specific letters, but I guess what I mean is it has a little more going on in the middle than just if it were, you know, B-O-D-Y. Sure. So I was trying to, like, honor that, the A-W, but I went body, which is that guy.

00:16:51 - 00:17:07 | Speaker 1:

things got weird fast were those sounds coming from your body all these sounds are coming from my body this has this is a wednesday show with the energy of a friday i'll tell you that much right now welcome ladies and gentlemen to the summer games yes this show is a calama five

00:17:07 - 00:17:20 | Speaker 2:

but a los angeles nine uh jacks taylor is the ultimate villain from the first few seasons uh in one of the first big scandals of the show this was before yeah it was a scandal all we heard

00:17:20 - 00:17:27 | Speaker 1:

about jacks in the very first question of this quiz on yesterday's show jacks is a friend of

00:17:27 - 00:17:59 | Speaker 2:

tom um correct and this we're going to get into this but of course because lauren is i would say maybe the greatest living quiz writer of our time lauren has found a very interesting angle into this and not something that's already been covered i love this i love where this is going um i don't love what happened that sounds like that was a real trust violation but i love where this question takes us. In one of the first big scandals of the show, he sleeps with his friend Tom Sandoval's girlfriend Kristen in her home while Tom was passed out in the other room. That's right, because that was not the

00:17:59 - 00:18:02 | Speaker 1:

answer to the one question, but Lauren had said that they had really happened.

00:18:03 - 00:18:13 | Speaker 2:

Okay, okay, okay. When the truth comes out, the detail of what movie they were watching when engaging in the act is included in the confession. What was the movie? Wait, hold on. I don't want

00:18:13 - 00:18:44 | Speaker 1:

multiple choice yet. Okay, I freaking love this. Right? So Tom's friend jacks with an x is fooling around with tom's partner at the time he's with tom's girlfriend kristin and there's a movie on the tv and it's gonna be notable and so i'm gonna say it's something like is it the movie up i feel like it's got to be shocking in some way right

00:18:45 - 00:18:54 | Speaker 2:

Well, it's not on this list, but there is something on this list that's in that sort of vein and would be, I'm really, really hoping, the real answer.

00:18:54 - 00:18:56 | Speaker 1:

Okay, give me the choice, then, if it's not up.

00:18:57 - 00:19:13 | Speaker 2:

Was the movie Speed? Okay. Was the movie Drive? Was the movie Cars 2? The Ballad of Lightning McQuaid, or whatever that character's name is.

00:19:13 - 00:19:15 | Speaker 1:

McQueen, I believe. I do know that it's McQueen

00:19:15 - 00:19:18 | Speaker 2:

and then or D Fast and Furious 4

00:19:18 - 00:19:57 | Speaker 1:

so I love what Lauren has done here as somebody who the consistency yes because here's the deal when you said speed and drive I'm like oh it's going to be one of those two because clearly like there it was one of those types of movies where something had you know indicated speed or driving a car but no all four of them do so I lose any advantage by saying well there is a cluster and so therefore there would be truth in the cluster But they're all clustered So it was Speed and Drive And then Cars 2, The Ballad of Buster McQueen And then Tim Blake Nelson Tim Blake Nelson as himself That one person who doesn't have limbs

00:19:57 - 00:20:00 | Speaker 2:

He's in The Ballad of Buster McQueen

00:20:00 - 00:20:00 | Speaker 1:

Buster Scruggs.

00:20:00 - 00:20:03 | Speaker 2:

Oh, you know the actor's name who plays the limbless kid in the balance?

00:20:03 - 00:20:18 | Speaker 1:

No, no, that's not Tim Blake Nelson. Oh. But I believe that, is that the guy that was in The Office? I don't know. But Tim Blake Nelson is I think kind of the sort of, is he Buster Scruggs? I don't know.

00:20:18 - 00:20:38 | Speaker 2:

What was the fourth, though? The fourth. Fath and Furious Four. Okay, yeah. This is interesting. You can look up whatever you were trying to figure out a second ago. I needed to focus on this you know as much as I wanted it to be like up I feel like Cars 2 being thrown in here is Lauren having a go yeah it doesn't seem right

00:20:38 - 00:20:40 | Speaker 1:

I'm guessing along with you because I think if it was

00:20:40 - 00:21:04 | Speaker 2:

Cars 2 then maybe the other hints would be or the other options would also be like maybe kids movies or something so I'm thinking it's and you know these are like okay so they're watching Speed or Drive I'm gonna say the Fast and the Furious 4 I feel like that's I mean it's not a very fun answer but I feel like it's the most likely what this group of people would be into which one are you guessing again? Fast and Furious 4 even faster, even furiouser

00:21:04 - 00:21:07 | Speaker 1:

you're so close but it is in fact Drive

00:21:07 - 00:21:20 | Speaker 2:

oh because that's, Drive is like a oh I dung my bell I should have buzzed my buzzer sorry about that oh because Drive is kind of a sexy movie right? Is that the one with

00:21:20 - 00:21:39 | Speaker 1:

Ryan Gosling? where he's like the delivery guy he's some kind of driver and it's got a real kind of like a real kind of kinetic soundtrack and he's just like always he's always listening to music on his headphones and he's driving around and he's doing a lot of i actually if that's the same one if it's the one with ryan gosling i actually liked it there is no

00:21:39 - 00:21:56 | Speaker 2:

that's pretty baby no there is a movie with ryan gosling um and brian cranston and christina hendrix called drive i'm looking that up now but wasn't there a movie in the 90s called drive that was by that like the the sex lies and videotape guy that was like incredibly sexy and people are

00:21:56 - 00:22:00 | Speaker 1:

having Cronenberg wasn't it no no sex lies and videotape wasn't Cronenberg was it was it

00:22:00 - 00:22:23 | Speaker 2:

drive 1997 um I think this is what I'm thinking of here so I'm still winning this quiz no that is a much different movie than what I'm thinking of there was a very dirty movie with one word that was like kind of like an arty movie not crash though yes crash crash crash indeed that was Cronenberg I think it weren't there two movies called crash the sexy Paul Haggis wrote

00:22:23 - 00:22:47 | Speaker 1:

one of them i think they're like i think paul haggis wrote the yeah like yeah because crash there was one one was called crash that was cronenberg where people get off on car crashes that was it yeah and then there was one called crash that was like i didn't watch it but it looked like one of the worst movies ever made literally there's a line where someone says like some sometimes in la we just have to crash into each other just to feel connected yes yeah and

00:22:47 - 00:22:58 | Speaker 2:

It, like, won the Oscar for Pomposity. James Spader. Of course it had that hornball, that, like, psychosexual James Spader in it, of course.

00:22:58 - 00:23:00 | Speaker 1:

But you're talking about that that's in the Cronenberg War.

00:23:00 - 00:23:06 | Speaker 2:

It is David Cronenberg, yeah. So anyway, the point is this conversation was not frustrating to anybody, and we got all of our facts right.

00:23:06 - 00:24:18 | Speaker 1:

Both Tom Sandoval and Kristen cheated on each other repeatedly over their four-year relationship. They broke up when Tom moved on with Ariana, who he may have been seeing prior to the end of his relationship with Kristen. Well, that puts that whole thing in context a little bit. Like, you know, I think that people in relationships should abide by whatever the agreement is for that relationship. So if the agreement is monogamy, then cheating on somebody, that's a very cruel thing to do. And I don't want to get into kind of like, you know, moral equivalence or whatever. But it's not—it doesn't sound like a straight—and this, by the way, this is how it begins. this is how we get sucked into the vanderpump universe the vpu is um is the fact that look if they're both cheating on each other all the time then him eventually settling into a serious relationship with somebody who was her friend but who with he now lives i don't know if that was grammatically correct um it's a little it feels a little less cut and dried to me then like they were both you know living monogamously and happily and uh they had a certain agreement then and he just stepped out with her best friend. That's one kind of thing. They're both cheating on each other left and right. She's cheating on him watching the movie Drive. It just sounds like that relationship.

00:24:18 - 00:24:25 | Speaker 2:

With Jax, because it was Jax and Kristen. I'm so confused. It was Jax and Kristen. But Tom had also been messing around.

00:24:25 - 00:24:49 | Speaker 1:

Yes, and may have been getting with Ariana before he and Kristen had fully ended things. But I'm just saying, when I heard Skandaval, I was like, wow, okay, this must be like, Like, you know, this guy has, by all outward appearances, a totally, like, what's the word I'm looking for? Like, I thought the scandal ball was just going to be, like, it went from zero to 60. Like in the movie Drive, when they go from zero to 60.

00:24:49 - 00:24:50 | Speaker 2:

Like in Crash.

00:24:51 - 00:25:00 | Speaker 1:

Right. Like, when they go from 60 to zero, like in the movie Crash. You know what I mean? Like, I thought, like, I sort of thought, oh, if it's going to get the next.

00:25:00 - 00:25:20 | Speaker 2:

name Skandalval, it must be like a violation of trust on a very, very, very high level. But if in the relationship these two people are both fairly regularly pursuing extracurricular and extracurricular and extracurricular relationship things, I was going to say extramarital, but I don't think they're married, that makes it feel, that makes the Skandalval feel a little less scandalous to me.

00:25:20 - 00:26:40 | Speaker 1:

Yeah, I guess. I don't know the details. I'm, I'm, I have, I'm easily, I don't hmm, how did, do you follow yeah that was great power out i wish i was like you easily you follow no i just i'm trying to it's such a serious topic friday energy baby yeah i uh i am not one to easily forgive improprieties like that i've never been i've never i don't as far as i know i've never been um on the losing end of somebody cheating on me um although i don't know if you know this but ironically one of the one of the very few people that i dated briefly before genevieve before i really locked into a 20-year relationship uh i was uh dating a girl in college who actually still had a boyfriend back in jersey so that it's it's weird that i would be the one with the strong feelings that i was the home wrecker in this case um although i don't scan well how do we do this andrew and again and again wait no you're right yeah uh anyway but i so my point is like i don't know the ins and outs of this relationship but and it sounds toxic if both people are cheating over the course of four years a lot but like i also do not know enough to be like oh well then it's okay for him to cheat in this way and her right i'm not giving him yeah right i'm not i'm

00:26:40 - 00:27:13 | Speaker 2:

and obviously like i'm not the arbiter of these things but i'm just observing as a newly minted as a newly hatched vanderpump fan i'm observing that the term scandalval led me to believe there was a certain kind of scenario going on and when you find out that it's more nuanced than that that this relationship had suffered infidelities on both sides previously multiple times makes it like can you call it a scandal at that point can you call the fifth affair a scandal or can you call it like a fairly predictable outcome based on all of the prior stuff that's all i'm saying

00:27:13 - 00:27:31 | Speaker 1:

right and this is of course a franchise that is noted for its um wait you didn't say subtlety what did you say nuance i get the impression i mean maybe i'm being a snob though i mean maybe the way these questions are written there is maybe a lot of nuance in a group of people that I would consider to be not nuanced I don't know

00:27:31 - 00:27:40 | Speaker 2:

okay we're going to have to really kind of really ramp it up here Andrew unless we're going to go day three on this which I have absolutely no problem

00:27:40 - 00:27:43 | Speaker 1:

I mean we've also at times left some on the table I don't know

00:27:43 - 00:27:52 | Speaker 2:

I personally this is delicious to me this quiz because it involves a bunch of stuff that you don't like to think about that I love thinking about

00:27:52 - 00:27:57 | Speaker 1:

Okay, well, then if we want to extend it to day three, I'm happy with that as well. I don't know how our listeners are going to feel about it.

00:27:59 - 00:28:36 | Speaker 2:

I'm just counting how many more questions there are. You know what? Yes. There's more questions, and one of them just says parenthetically, hang in there. Like, I think Lauren knows that by question nine, we're like, still? And she has anticipated this and has wisely put, hang in there. So let's hang in there. I think that this, and you know what, as is so often the case with TBTL and the Summer Games, Andrew, we've gone on all kinds of adventures today. It's not just, you know, the jumping off point is the Vanderpump rules, but we've covered, what else have we covered today?

00:28:36 - 00:28:39 | Speaker 1:

Sports betting, I believe. Sports betting we talked about. Wait, that might have been a couple of days ago.

00:28:39 - 00:28:58 | Speaker 2:

No, that was this week. I feel like we talked about the fact that you tore a relationship apart in college between some kind of trusting naif in New Jersey who thought that he was in a relationship, and you were really jacks-tailoring it up.

00:28:58 - 00:29:59 | Speaker 1:

Can I pad that out with a little bit more context? Well, not context to that story, but it was a girl that I dated for about a month in college. All of my relationships before Genevieve lasted about a month, and all of them were in college and not very serious. And then I met Genevieve, and I was a changed man. But I did not have a lot of experience in the dating world. They were usually kind of friends, or we were friendly, and then the relationship sort of bloomed in a certain way. This particular one I'm talking about was with a woman named Alex. And right now, this doesn't do us a lot of good, although maybe for their own privacy it's best I can't think of the last name. But so I do remember this woman who I'm no longer in touch with in any way. I don't even think we were Facebook friends or anything named Alex, who I dated. I mean, what was that, Luke, 30 years ago? Jeez Louise. I mean, when was I in college? Late 90s, right? And the other day I was listening to public radio. And I want to say it was like Marketplace.

00:30:00 - 00:31:35 | Speaker 2:

the weekend and they were talking about an issue affecting nurses and they they basically said here's a here's a voicemail or a voice memo that we got from so-and-so who's a nurse on the east coast somewhere and it was exactly her name first and last name and i was and i was outside trying to think what no shit it was some sort of a podcast i was listening to because i was working in the yard and I as I continue to work in the yard I'm like I gotta look her up like I gotta say did I just hear a girl I dated decades ago did I just hear her voice on the podcast I'm listening to was that actually her and like would it be weird I mean I have no trust me I have no lingering emotions other than nostalgia just being like wow did I just hear this person on the radio or the podcast so I was even composing in my head how I would write a letter without sounding creepy about it just be like i think i just heard you on this podcast i listened to and i was composing and i came in and i googled her name and there are a million people with that name and it was not and a million like women named alex or alexandria with this last name and it is not a name that i would consider to be common it's not like smith or jacks with an x right i don't and i'm sorry that i don't know it now or jiggy but maybe it's best that i don't recall it right now but i'm telling you it was not a name that you'd be like oh yeah of course there's a million women with that name but there are a million women with this particular name and i could not find anybody who resembled or seemed to live the life of the person that i knew many years ago wow that is interesting

00:31:35 - 00:31:59 | Speaker 1:

now if you had um now let's say that let's say it wasn't her because there's a lot of people with this name but you do then find her in looking around for this particular alex like it's not the nurse who left the message but then you see and there's a picture and you're like oh that's the person that you know i know from college uh the all these years later would you then reach out to them if they were not if they weren't the person who left the voicemail on the public radio but

00:31:59 - 00:32:03 | Speaker 2:

you were able to locate that interesting would i just be like hey i heard somebody else with you

00:32:03 - 00:32:09 | Speaker 1:

on the radio no because i would go with no no i would probably not do that i would be like let's

00:32:09 - 00:33:29 | Speaker 2:

not open that door no and in fact unless it was like a casual kind of like you know re convening with somebody on social media they follow you or you follow them like i do think that there's something even if i i mean listen and it's driving me bananas that i can't remember the details of what show i was listening to because it's a show that is meaningful to me it might have been you know what it might have been on the media or something like that so it wasn't like some random episode of marketplace that i it was something that i was like seeking out and listening to and so that connection meant a lot to me too that like this person from my past was on a show that I hold dear and so I felt like that would be such a coincidence that I couldn't potentially stop myself from reaching out but if that person if Alex did not write back to me that would be fine based on everything I know about her and our who we were 30 years ago I think she probably would have but I would never like follow up or do anything that would make anybody feel uncomfortable because I think like reaching out even via email unless this person was kind of like hey i'm part of this nursing association and so i'm sort of a public figure and i could write to their work account and say hey this is andrew from college i heard you on my podcast that would be as far as i would go um because i think anything beyond that gets gets really weird when guys start um looking up their their exes when they're in in in the middle

00:33:29 - 00:34:35 | Speaker 1:

of their life you know what i mean i mean i would say in both directions well this is what i would say it's it's rare that i've heard of a time where somebody looks up their ex and makes contact with them many years later and there's not at least one percent of something going on in someone's mind not like i'm gonna try to like have an affair but just kind of like some longing for something there's some you know and i know i'm i'm sure there are exceptions to this but like i think facebook is such a fascinating thing because of all the things along with i think contributing to the election of donald trump uh it's probably been instrumental in the in the in the marital status of more people changing than just about anything since i don't know what because what it allowed a lot of folks to do is go find out whatever happened to that one person that you'd always been thinking about and then you know strike up some kind of a friendship i'm not saying every time somebody talks to an ex something shady is going on but i don't know if i got an email from someone i had dated a long time ago who i wasn't in contact with my first thought would be like huh interesting i wonder if what this i wonder what emotional sort of button this person is

00:34:35 - 00:34:59 | Speaker 2:

looking to push for themselves or me but you're somebody who's you know like on the radio and and on tv in a lot of different ways and so in this case i i heard somebody who was like submitting something to a podcast but what if it was somebody who heard you hosting one of your shows or doing one of your tv pieces i sort of feel like that is the only it wasn't like hey i was just sitting here thinking about you and reminiscing like I sort of feel like I would have had several rules and again I never found the

00:35:00 - 00:35:44 | Speaker 1:

I was looking for so that's fine or or Luke I did find the person I was looking for and it was Genevieve all along no I but I would have like had very like my rules would have been it would have been a very short email it would have mentioned the fact that like I'm living in Seattle with my partner and we've been here for a long time like just to like put that up front you know what I mean like not you know and I would have um you know definitely would have been tied to the fact that like I was listening to one of my favorite shows and was amazed to hear your voice you know to hear you on it and um and yeah what what a small world it is totally that would have been it would have been short and it would have mentioned my partner and i i promise you would have had nothing to do with wanting to reconnect in really any kind of meaningful way other than just being like hey you're somebody who i heard on the radio and that's cool to hear that you're

00:35:44 - 00:35:49 | Speaker 2:

doing well do you think that you mentioning your partner would have been kind of insulting in a way

00:35:49 - 00:35:54 | Speaker 1:

i mean i would have i'm now i'm like writing it here with you um but i mean i think i don't know

00:35:54 - 00:35:58 | Speaker 2:

why i'm trying to keep the needle moving on a best of no i'm assuming i'm assuming that this

00:35:58 - 00:36:27 | Speaker 1:

person is happy with whatever is going on with their life you know what i mean like i wouldn't have dwelt on i've been like i have i have found the most beautiful woman of my dreams although of course that is true um i would have just been like hey i hope you're doing well awesome to hear you on the show sounds like you know you you know you've you're you're doing well in your career uh not much going on uh with me i'm still living in seattle been here with my partner for a long time So don't get any ideas. So don't get any ideas, sweet cheeks. Something like that. Taken.

00:36:27 - 00:36:31 | Speaker 2:

Look at this finger. I got a no pest strip on here.

00:36:31 - 00:36:31 | Speaker 1:

What?

00:36:34 - 00:36:59 | Speaker 2:

Speaking of exes, my first ex-wife was an artist, but also from time to time would work in the restaurant industry. and her and her friends who were not engaged or married at the time would sometimes wear a wedding ring or ring on their finger and they called it a no pest strip because it made it less likely that some guy would try to chat them up while they were trying to do their job.

00:37:00 - 00:37:10 | Speaker 1:

Do you know what I'm just realizing? I was over here, Luke, trying to remember this woman from my life with her full name.

00:37:10 - 00:37:11 | Speaker 2:

Yeah.

00:37:11 - 00:38:16 | Speaker 1:

and i thought i just thought of it and i googled it just her name she's literally the first person to pop up i think whatever i heard on this podcast wasn't even her name i think it was a more common name now i can't remember what i heard on the podcast but i think i heard that maybe i don't your brain told my brain told me oh this is the and because i just typed in i suddenly it just popped into my head was alexander smith and i am you heard on the radio jones i'm not going to say it here because it was the very first thing to pop up but i just was like oh was it this last name i googled it very first result is this person and it's is it her own website no it looks like she's with a business but it's like her page on this website of a business with her with a photo of her and this is most certainly the woman um from well you have to reach out to her now oh yeah i have to mention genevieve hey you know what we should do uh see if she's on our list of donors a thing today yeah that would be something what if i reached out and just asked to support my show

00:38:16 - 00:38:26 | Speaker 2:

great transition andrew i've i'm so i'm so sort of heat compromised right now i forgot that we're

00:38:26 - 00:38:32 | Speaker 1:

thanking daily donors now we're in the middle of a vanderpump rules quiz i i can barely remember

00:39:20 - 00:39:25 | Speaker 1:

I thought that was a disease that you get if you're in too close Of contact with somebody Oh, I got Virginia peanuts

00:39:25 - 00:40:00 | Speaker 2:

Most of the cast of Vanderpump Rules has it And there is, sadly no cure i'm sorry guillermo that was rude of me to say it's like um it's it's like uh in spinal tap when there's like one cold sore that just keeps moving around to the different members of the band in different shots like all one of them always has this particular herpetic situation no there are these very delicious peanuts that virginia is famous for and guillermo and his wife came to i believe i did wait wait don't tell me in um in in uh virginia and they gave me these peanuts in there.

00:40:00 - 00:41:18 | Speaker 1:
