The movie is, well, I don't want to, now here's the thing. I don't want to, I don't want to make the experience less fun for people by building it up too much. because what was actually perfect for me as a viewer was I went in with low expectations because I actually think the trailer for this movie, The Holdovers, does not really convey the kind of what's great about the film. To watch the trailer is to think, oh, this is Rushmore meets The Breakfast Club because Paul Giamatti is a teacher at this, you know, boarding school where he also went to school when he was a kid. And, you know, over the winter break, there's like a handful of kids that for whatever reason can't go home for christmas break or in holiday break so they have to stay in the school and paul giamatti gets stuck basically babysitting them and the trailer makes it look like they just the kids get up to mad cap mad capery and paul giamatti is yelling and yelling at them that's a detention um but the movie is because it's alexander pain and because paul giamatti it's just so much more interesting and nuanced than that and it's just a slow burn I've spent the first 45 minutes kind of thinking, huh, this is fine, but like this is the stakes are very low here. And then all of a sudden I'm just like trying not to start like loudly sobbing sitting next to Becca as, you know, as these characters who I just came to really root for and really have an emotional attachment to are doing their thing. But it really just kind of caught me by surprise, which hasn't happened for a while for me in watching a film.
