I think you're ready now to hear a little story about a girl, a girl named Megan, a girl named Megan that didn't have a very good time in high school. I'm referring to myself when I say Megan. It's me, Megan. And I know you look at me now and think, boy, she must have breezed through high school. Not the case, Annie. Okay, they used to try to blow me up. They threw firecrackers at my head. Firecrackers. I mean literally I'm not saying that figuratively I got firecrackers thrown at my head They called me a freak You know what I did? I pulled myself up I studied really hard I read every book in the library And now I work for the government I have the highest possible security clearance Don't repeat that I won't I can't protect you I know where all the nukes are And I know the codes I won't say anything You would be amazed A lot of shopping malls Don't repeat that TBTL

00:00:55 - 00:01:03 | Speaker 2:

oh snap this comedian was crazy in the 80s with his raw and delirious routines

00:01:03 - 00:01:26 | Speaker 3:

jared oh he's hilarious dog who is rick moranis anytime you can do something that's fun you like to do and make money doing it hey it's a win win win and anytime you can win win win you're win win winning you know if you're just winning or win winning that's that's just winning or win winning but when you're win-win-win you're win-win-win and hell yeah oh won't somebody

00:01:26 - 00:02:01 | Speaker 5:

please think of the children all right hello good morning and welcome everyone to a thursday edition of tbtl the show that just might be too beautiful to live it is the i guess it's the sort of last day of the winter games because tomorrow's episode will feature andrew and genevieve so i'm maybe playing a winter game i don't know you know what let me ask the uh the person in question andrew walsh longest running cobro of the show good morning my friend good morning i think i might

00:02:01 - 00:02:06 | Speaker 4:

i haven't made up my mind yet but i think i might play a winter game or a quiz with genevieve you

00:02:06 - 00:02:11 | Speaker 5:

know what i'm thinking about doing is i made redoing tony's quiz from yesterday's show

00:02:11 - 00:03:03 | Speaker 4:

There's a few tweaks. I made a quiz of my own for the newsletter several weeks ago. I don't know if you happened to see this. I don't think Genevieve took the quiz. And if she hadn't, I'm going to give it to her on the air. It was, I was actually kind of proud of this. Doritos flavor or historic military operation? So listeners who have already read it in the newsletter. It was a real thing. I looked up a bunch of, like, names. I mean, Doritos had, I believe, on the list I was looking at, 191 different varieties over the years. Now, don't be fooled by that. I mean, they're not all your traditional chips. They come from all around the world. You know, they'll do a short run of some flavor in Japan or something. And then I think there was, I even discovered that there was something called, like, Doritos Nuts. Did you know about Doritos Nuts? No. Are they?

00:03:04 - 00:03:09 | Speaker 5:

Is it a nut-flavored Dorito chip, or is it nuts that have Dorito dust on them?

00:03:09 - 00:03:30 | Speaker 4:

That is a, it didn't occur to me that that would even be a question, but that is a really good question. I believe, oh, Doritos Crunch Nuts, which are crunchy peanuts coated in Doritos nacho cheese flavor. But then they come in a bunch of different flavors as well. So I only say that, so when I say 191 flavors, I mean, you have different varieties, you have different products, you have different Crunch Nuts.

00:03:32 - 00:03:39 | Speaker 5:

I've heard the quiz was tough, though, because of the fact that Doritos did roll out Doritos Falkland Islands. Yeah, right.

00:03:39 - 00:03:49 | Speaker 4:

So you have taken the quiz or you haven't? I've just heard things. Yeah. So anyway, I did a little research. I'm going to try to give that quiz to Genevieve tomorrow or a different one, or we'll just talk about whatever Genevieve wants to talk about.

00:03:49 - 00:04:19 | Speaker 5:

So that makes today the penultimate Winter Games episode. And I just love trotting out penultimate. So thank you for giving me that gift by doing a game with Vives tomorrow. Now, of course, who can forget the absolute, fully awake, unanesthetized surgery that was yesterday's program uh just just that just that moment when you wake up during the procedure but you can't tell them that you're still awake that was what taking tony's movie quiz was like

00:04:19 - 00:04:30 | Speaker 4:

let me ask you a question yesterday was an impossible quiz today's is going to be the opposite of that today's is going to be um i believe a walk in the park for you love it although

00:04:30 - 00:04:37 | Speaker 5:

that's you know that's that's risky because if i get any of them wrong i'm gonna feel pretty Should I be giving you the quiz, though? You quizzed me yesterday.

00:04:37 - 00:04:41 | Speaker 4:

You know, I got it in front of me already, and it kind of doesn't matter.

00:04:41 - 00:04:42 | Speaker 5:

And honestly, I could really use a win here.

00:04:42 - 00:05:00 | Speaker 4:

You could really use a win. Let me ask you this in all seriousness. So, like, I actually think yesterday's show was, I mean, in a certain way, and again, I don't know to what degree Tony realized he was creating some sort of modern art, but, like, I thought yesterday's show was brilliant in a way. I agree. In the impossibility of it. But does it get to you a little bit, maybe more than, like, I'm used to just.

00:05:00 - 00:05:17 | Speaker 1:

being wrong about everything in the world so when i like just when a quiz is like that and i can't get any right like in the moment i might be frustrated with myself and it's fun to get into the game but it doesn't really stick to me like i don't i don't care like why would i know those things i get the impression with you and tell me if i'm wrong that it actually does kind of sting

00:05:17 - 00:06:03 | Speaker 2:

you a little bit a i think it depends on the subject matter um if it were the 1987 nba all-star game that would be one thing um but those were so so impossible that i i'm happy to say that myself my my already pretty low self-esteem did not take an extra hit from that okay because it was and i was legitimately laughing out loud as they became progressively like again they were so hard that it felt like oh this is tony's tony's just kind of having a having a go having a laugh with us so I enjoyed it. It was impossible. I don't feel bad about not being able to get them. There are certain quizzes that if I couldn't get them, I would probably be a little bummed. That's not one of them.

00:06:03 - 00:06:46 | Speaker 1:

I mean, I guess the way I – and maybe I'm the devious one here. The way I set up today's quiz as being so easy is I guess if you don't get any of these right – That's what I just said. I'm nervous now. But the thing is, I think you got this. Bitter patter, let's get at her. How many questions do we have? Before we get to the number of questions, I'd like to read to you this note we got from the quiz maker. This is from listener Oscar who says, my name is oscar and if that name sounds familiar it's because i was a caller during the tb telethon i love the show even though i'm only 11 years old do you remember now yeah oscar was the baseball aficionado exactly i just wrote back to oscar too um because i can't remember was he a kansas city royals fan or is he a dodgers fan i can't remember i feel like there was some he had like

00:06:46 - 00:06:57 | Speaker 2:

i feel like we were yeah we were talking baseball with oscar i feel like somehow we were talking on baseball caps maybe i don't know but but anyway i remember oscar's still into the show and i'm

00:06:57 - 00:07:32 | Speaker 1:

loving that thank you for reaching out oscar and oscar says since i started listening to the show consistently i uh wanted to offer a quiz for either the summer or winter games and i finally done it as the name suggests it's star wars themed the name by the way luke is a star wars quiz for beginners uh he says i myself love watching the star wars movies the quiz itself is very easy I hope you enjoy it. Power out Oscar the Ten. Here's some money. Go see a Star War. So, oh, do we have any? You played the Hooray for Hollywood. Is there a Star Wars sound effect? Is there like the bridge of the Star Trek?

00:07:32 - 00:07:42 | Speaker 2:

I have something called TBTL Star Wars music. Oh, no. I'm put off by the fact that it says TBTL Star Wars music. That makes me nervous. Yeah, me too. But let's just see what this is.

00:07:43 - 00:07:49 | Speaker 1:

Oh, okay. Okay.

00:07:50 - 00:07:53 | Speaker 2:

I mean, it's very sinister, though. It is sinister.

00:07:57 - 00:08:55 | Speaker 1:

Oh, that's good. Okay, good. It's action-packed. I'm trying to figure out what would it be like. Are these just sound effects I have on my end? Oh, no, that's no good. I thought maybe I could just get some sound effects of lasers or whatever those guns, phasers. What do you call the guns? Well, maybe that'll be a question in the quiz. Here's the first one here. Oh, okay. So this is a Star Wars quiz for beginners, and it says in big, bold, black letters here, please do the questions in order. Okay, Luke? So we're going to go in order here. No skipping around like we did yesterday. Somebody's got to save you, fly boys. Number one, the protagonist of the original Star Wars trilogy and a Jedi, Mark Hamill played this character. His last name was Skywalker. Oh, wait. No, it's multiple choice. A, Anakin Skywalker. B, Luke Skywalker. C, Yoda Skywalker, or D, Padme Skywalker? Is it Padme? Padme? Padme?

00:08:55 - 00:09:47 | Speaker 2:

The only thing that gives me pause is I haven't watched any of the newer Star Wars that are actually prequels or whatever. I have seen Star Wars, Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi. I have never seen any of the other ones. So I guess there's a teeny tiny chance that it could be technically the story of Anakin, a.k.a. Darth. Says the protagonist of the original Star Wars trilogy. Oh, okay. Well then, I'm going to be, I really, really hope that Oscar and Tony are the same person. Two sides of the same coin. Because for every way that Tony bedeviled us yesterday, Oscar, it seems, is just, you know, kind of giving me a warm, comfortable hug here. I'm going to say Luke Skywalker.

00:09:48 - 00:09:53 | Speaker 1:

Oh, congratulations, Luke. The answer is B, Luke Skywalker, which coincidentally is the same name as you.

00:09:54 - 00:10:00 | Speaker 2:

Yes, it sure is, Andrew. That was something that was pointed out to me often in my youth. I believe it. Let's see.

00:10:00 - 00:10:17 | Speaker 1:

here. How about number two? Another protagonist of the original trilogy, Carrie Fisher played this character, an esteemed leader of the Rebel Alliance. She was captured in the first movie that came out, Princess Blank. Is it Rey, Jade, Dora, or Leia?

00:10:19 - 00:10:20 | Speaker 2:

So Buttercup

00:10:20 - 00:10:25 | Speaker 1:

is not on there. Buttercup is not on there. Boo! Boo!

00:10:25 - 00:10:34 | Speaker 2:

this is like the listeners are on a speeder bike with us right now on endor yeah this is endor

00:10:34 - 00:10:44 | Speaker 1:

music dodging old growth trees that's one of my favorite toys growing up is i had a speeder bike and you'd push a button in the back and it would blow up into three pieces oh so it was like a kind

00:10:44 - 00:11:31 | Speaker 2:

of a small it was like for the for the star wars characters because i had and this is going to sound like i'm trying to make a joke or get into my dickensian childhood but i mean honestly i freaking love this thing i was like dad i really want like some sort of speeder bike thing he was like well um here's what i will do for you on this saturday i will get like a some kind of a four by four by four and i will put it on some sawhorses and i will um nail a couple of handles to it like and then you can sit on it and pretend you're on a speeder bike and i did and it worked it was amazing i would sit there in the garage and i would close my eyes and and i would pull on the different handles uh and i would really i really felt like i was on a speeder bike and you made sounds with your mouth i'm sure i made sounds with my mouth um i i have to say that was a very fun

00:11:31 - 00:12:07 | Speaker 1:

toy for me yeah i did something similar we had some sort of a big um some sort of big tank in our backyard that they would fill up every now and then i don't know if it was natural gas or what it was but it was above ground it was a tank and like i would i would climb up on it and then straddle it like a giant horse or i know i use this reference a lot but like um slim pickens in Dr. Strangelove exactly and I would like ride it and it had like where you would fill it up it had like the perfect little thing for me to grab on to like right in front of me like the like the I don't know knob on a saddle but anyway that doesn't get us any closer to this have you made your

00:12:07 - 00:12:13 | Speaker 2:

guess yet? I'm going to go with Princess Leia indeed you are right you are

00:12:13 - 00:12:49 | Speaker 1:

two for two today do you want to maybe do let's say let's go with number three a smuggler and owner of the Millennium Falcon how did I mess that up when it's written in front of me my brain got in front of me there because recently on the show I could not remember if it was Millennial Falcon or Millennium Falcon I couldn't either though for what it's worth once my brain was poisoned I couldn't land on one but anyway it's Millennium Falcon a smuggler and owner of the Millennium Falcon he is good with a blaster Harrison Ford played him is it Han Solo Luke Skywalker Obi-Wan Kenobi or Yoda?

00:12:51 - 00:12:53 | Speaker 2:

Can I get that again, please?

00:12:53 - 00:13:07 | Speaker 1:

Okay, the whole question or just the four answers? The whole question. Smuggler, owner of the Millennium Falcon. Okay, okay. He's good with a blaster. Okay. Harrison Ford played him and he said bourbon.

00:13:08 - 00:13:08 | Speaker 2:

Okay.

00:13:08 - 00:13:20 | Speaker 1:

And then he expanded his finger and thumb and he said bourbon again. Perpendicular? Yes, and was it Han Solo? What was the orientation of the finger and the thumb? Was it Luke Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Yoda or Charles Bukowski

00:13:20 - 00:13:42 | Speaker 2:

do they get into whether or not this person helped build part of Joan Didion's kitchen did a remodel for Joan Didion what is that a reference to that's a thing Harrison Ford did oh really oh okay he was a carpenter

00:13:42 - 00:13:57 | Speaker 1:

guy construction guy before he got his big break well he definitely I think definitely thought that they smelled bad on the outside. Oh, okay, okay. That's Han Solo. That is Han Solo indeed. Answer A, you are correct.

00:13:58 - 00:14:32 | Speaker 2:

I can't decide if, like, if we're being trolled by both Oscar and Tony. Because of the duality of the quizzes the past two days? Because of how easy this quiz is, almost to the point of it being hard to play because it's so easy. Because you know me, Andrew. I'm a content-creating machine, and I create hilarious content. But when I know the answer to all these, I have to then work to up the game. I have to find a way to make these answers that we all know somehow still a funny outcome.

00:14:32 - 00:14:59 | Speaker 1:

Okay, listen, for the next question, when I ask you the next question, I'm going to ask it to you. I'm going to read the question backwards. That'll help. All right, what do you got next? All right, question number four. As promised, I'm going to read this question backwards. I'm going to read every word. I'm not going to read the words backwards. I'll read the words forward, but I'm going to read the sentence backwards. Ready? Okay. Hug good. This is question number four. Hug good a loves and seven foot six.

00:15:00 - 00:15:22 | Speaker 2:

he friend best solos Han and Wookiee a what I didn't know you doth wore your mother's drapes what part of seven six stands he don't you understand that uh was completely confusing

00:15:22 - 00:15:28 | Speaker 1:

except for I when I heard seven feet I knew we were talking about Yoda so that helped that made

00:15:28 - 00:15:34 | Speaker 2:

it easy right i do i'm gonna read it to you in uh in the in the forward way yeah let's get let's

00:15:34 - 00:15:38 | Speaker 1:

hear it forward i do i think i have a sneaking suspicion i know this one but let's let's do it

00:15:38 - 00:16:27 | Speaker 2:

i i believe in you a wookie and han solo's best friend he stands seven six and loves a good hug i didn't know that by the way i didn't know that he loves a good hug i don't think i knew that either I love that about him I do too I we love that for Chewbacca Chewbacca oh that's right I never even gave you the possible answers Anakin Skywalker Chewbacca Han Solo or Obi-Wan Kenobi you without any help yeah we're able to identify that character as Chewbacca are there any other this is where we just need Oscar on the show are there any other Wookiees with names not just in the Star Wars universe because I'm sure there are in the book oh I'm sure there are in the movies Chu Naka Chu Haka Screw Baca which was I think Cut out of some don't worry about it

00:16:27 - 00:16:29 | Speaker 1:

Oscar but included in other adult films

00:16:29 - 00:17:02 | Speaker 2:

Now I just realized That is probably a thing That probably is a thing don't look It up are you another question here Do you want it read in the proper order I want it read in Wookie Do you want it read in the King's English Or the Wook's English I would like the Wook's English Too many wooks in the kitchen, I say. Here it is. That's a wookie mistake. Number five, the mentor of Luke Skywalker. Okay, now I think, oh, okay, do you want to take a guess there? Should I keep reading?

00:17:02 - 00:17:10 | Speaker 1:

The mentor of Luke Skywalker. There's two there. I think this is actually kind of getting, now it's getting tough because we could be talking about a Yoda. We could be talking about an Obi-Wan.

00:17:11 - 00:17:25 | Speaker 2:

He was, let's see, he had a blue lightsaber and he was slain by Darth Vader. Oh, okay. His nickname was Ben. Oh, okay. Alec Guinness played him in the first movie that came out.

00:17:25 - 00:17:35 | Speaker 1:

All right. Here's your option. Is it the guy that has his lips really far from his mouth who plays that horn in Jabba's house band?

00:17:36 - 00:17:41 | Speaker 2:

Let's see here. Was his name Ray Palpatine? Yes! Palpatine.

00:17:42 - 00:18:03 | Speaker 1:

Obi-Wan Kenobi or Finn? Ray, I didn't know there was a Ray Palpatine That's, Emperor Palpatine's Name was Ray, I love that Like you just, cause Emperor Palpatine's bad Right, he's a bad guy But the idea that his name is just Ray I just feel like, you know what, who hurt you Emperor Palpatine, who hurt Ray Palpatine

00:18:03 - 00:18:21 | Speaker 2:

But Ray is the young woman In the later series So I don't know her connection To an admiral Oh is it spelled that way too, it's not spelled R-A-Y It's R-E-Y Sky. Oh, I see. Ray Palpatine. Wait, but this says Ray Skywalker, so maybe I'm wrong about this. Are there two Rays?

00:18:22 - 00:18:23 | Speaker 1:

Hmm.

00:18:23 - 00:18:31 | Speaker 2:

It's a shame about Ray. Well, it is. It's certainly a shame. Actually, if I spelled it R-E-Y, that's a great joke. That's a great joke.

00:18:32 - 00:18:33 | Speaker 1:

Shame about Ray.

00:18:33 - 00:18:47 | Speaker 2:

It's amazing that we took the easiest quiz in the world, and yet somehow I'm losing it. Number one, I'm not even taking the quiz, and it's the easiest quiz in the world, And yet, I have found a way to lose it by getting all caught up on Ray Palpatine and Admiral Palpatine.

00:18:47 - 00:18:51 | Speaker 1:

I think we're talking about one Obi-Wan Kenobi, my friend. Ben Kenobi.

00:18:52 - 00:19:02 | Speaker 2:

You are right. Congratulations. So what is that? You are, I need to switch back over after taking my show notes here. You are five for five on this quiz, I believe. God.

00:19:02 - 00:19:06 | Speaker 1:

This really was, honestly, the W that I needed after yesterday.

00:19:06 - 00:19:33 | Speaker 2:

this one hey I don't know the answer to this one number six a little green man he talked backwards so people couldn't understand him he trained and was a great Jedi oh you know this one oh he talked backwards he talks yes not fully backwards right it was a zoo

00:19:33 - 00:19:35 | Speaker 1:

from the Flintstones

00:19:35 - 00:19:48 | Speaker 2:

The Great Kazoo Koda, Mace Windu, Maul, or Yoda I see So yeah, he has an interesting way of talking I don't know if it's strictly backwards though, right?

00:19:49 - 00:20:35 | Speaker 1:

I feel like I have a memory My brother David might even hear this I'm not sure how up to speed he is But I feel like So about the time that I got off the train With the Star Wars movies Was around the time that Thank you. The Mace Windu character started showing up I want to say played by Samuel L. Jackson And I feel like I remember My brothers having an impassioned discussion Of Mace Windu Because they were really into like you know all of the Star Wars's and I just It's like the weird Star Wars names that you grow up with My weird Star Wars names those all seem like they made Sense you know Han Solo Jabba the Hutt etc But I don't know why Mace Windu Was just the dumbest name I'd ever heard And when they were having a particularly like well that's not how mace windu would respond to that like i just laughed and laughed and laughed

00:20:35 - 00:21:16 | Speaker 2:

and laughed i did not know that it was um you said um is that a samuel is that samuel jackson yeah i'm looking at him now i don't think i would have if if this quiz had been like was samuel l jackson ever in a star war i would have probably said no i think this is the era that i dropped off too i came back with the newer ones but the that that first set of uh that first you know i I guess not the first set of movies, but the first set of trilogies, if that makes sense, or prequels, whatever. I got off the train pretty quickly on that one. I think I watched the very first one. I even dressed up like Han Solo for a party of the release, the re-release, I believe. Remember before they—

00:21:16 - 00:21:26 | Speaker 1:

That's amazing to me because of the fact that you dressed up once as Columbo and that you dressed up as Han Solo. That's surprising to me.

00:21:26 - 00:21:39 | Speaker 2:

Yeah, there's a picture of me somewhere. I think I had a black shirt that I tore the sleeves off of to make it seem like a vest, and I wore a white shirt underneath it. And what really made me look a lot like Han Solo was the ponytail and glasses.

00:21:40 - 00:21:40 | Speaker 1:

Uh-huh.

00:21:40 - 00:22:18 | Speaker 2:

That's what really sealed the deal. There's a photo of me floating around somewhere. I don't know if it was from the MySpace days or what, of me crouching on the floor of this kid Tony's basement in college, in college, for a party that was celebrating the re-release of the original. do you remember before they released the prequels they re-released the original star wars but there were some tweaks in them they were digitally remastered and they added some stuff i believe that's what we were all excited about at the time my friends were more excited about it i was more excited about uh my friend jessica being there because i had found out at the time we had both had crushes on each other so that's all i really remember about that was like yeah you put on a

00:22:18 - 00:22:38 | Speaker 1:

fake vest if jessica's there well that's the thing i mean this was a much this was a this was a an Andrew that was you know it was how do I put I don't want to sound like I don't want to be sound like I'm negging you but I mean that's a that's a that's a go-along Andrew that uh that's a I don't know how do I describe that that's a younger more hopeful Andrew that's an Andrew who

00:22:38 - 00:23:15 | Speaker 2:

is motivated by his loins that's the phrase there you go there that's that's an Andrew by the way before we get to that's an Andrew who's down for some good old-fashioned loin girding this is uh Remains to this day a good friend of mine Okay Question number seven A man with a suit of black And a mask of a similar color Johnny Cash Johnny Cash He played San Quentin Let's see here He killed many Jedi So that's not good That's why Oh this is a different one Didn't he play San Quentin and Folsom Oh probably

00:23:15 - 00:23:20 | Speaker 1:

He was Luke Skywalker He might have been in San Quentin playing Folsom Prison Blues.

00:23:20 - 00:23:31 | Speaker 2:

I think that's actually might be it. I think the famous record is San Quentin, but I could be wrong about that. He was Luke Skywalker's father, and he said the famous quote, bourbon. No, he said the famous quote, I am your father.

00:23:32 - 00:23:43 | Speaker 1:

Is that what he actually says? Because that's one of those ones where it's been kind of like, you know, it's been bastardized over time. Which is ironic considering the context.

00:23:43 - 00:24:00 | Speaker 2:

This came up somewhat recently in the past couple of months on TBTL because I used it as an example of an oft misquoted line. I think the line that is misquoted is, Luke, I am your father, where I think he just says, I am your father, and he doesn't say, Luke, I am your father.

00:24:00 - 00:24:07 | Speaker 1:

And in Casablanca, it's not, play it again, Sam. It's, play it one more time or something.

00:24:08 - 00:24:12 | Speaker 2:

Give it to me one more time. Is that what you're thinking of?

00:24:12 - 00:24:14 | Speaker 1:

Britney Spears hit me, baby, one more time.

00:24:14 - 00:24:16 | Speaker 2:

No, I'm pretty sure that's from Casablanca.

00:24:18 - 00:24:26 | Speaker 1:

Okay, sorry, what was the question? Who said that? I think that was Darth Vader. A.k.a. Anakin.

00:24:26 - 00:24:36 | Speaker 2:

A.k.a. Dark Vader, as I called him when I was a small child with his lightsaber. Oh, I called it Lifesaver. That's what I meant, yes.

00:24:36 - 00:24:44 | Speaker 1:

Or Lightsaber. Lifesaver or Lightsaber, but never Lightsaber, ever. Until, like, probably five years ago.

00:24:44 - 00:24:56 | Speaker 2:

Yes. Upon the re-watching of the prequels. You are correct. The answer is A, Darth Vader. It's not Darth Sidious or Darth Maul or Count Dooku. Or Count Dooku or Mace Windu.

00:24:56 - 00:25:00 | Speaker 1:

Or Mace Windu. I'm, like, honestly feel like I'm ready to go to a...

00:25:00 - 00:25:35 | Speaker 2:

a Star Wars con that you are kind of wow. The people find your Jessica number eight, a massive super weapon, the size of the moon. It can destroy an entire planet. Is this a, the planet killer B star killer base, C the death star or D laser star. Here's why I like this question because this finally Oscar at question eight is comfortable going away from the script a little bit. I think being creative and coming up with some things that don't even exist in the universe to try to trick you. Right, exactly. The game is slowing down for Oscar here. Exactly.

00:25:35 - 00:25:50 | Speaker 1:

He's getting into kind of a flow state, and I love that. I think it's your butt. It's your stinky butt. Is your butt on there? I think it is probably the Death Star.

00:25:51 - 00:26:30 | Speaker 2:

It is indeed the Death Star. Congratulations. Nice. And I don't know how we're doing. I would like to get to all of these because there was a big note at the top that says, please do the questions in order. And they are getting a little bit more challenging. So we only have two more to go. OK, let's go. Number nine, possibly the best species in the entire saga. So now we're getting like this is also feels pretty subjective. I'm really watching the evolution of Oscar's quiz writing, possibly the best species in the entire saga. They appeared only in episode 6 and episode 9, and they are small, brown, furry, and were friends with Princess Leia, the aforementioned Princess Leia.

00:26:31 - 00:26:43 | Speaker 1:

Oscar likes these characters the most. I'm guessing—wait, does that mean Return of the Jedi is actually number 6? Yeah, because it starts with number 4, right? 4, 5, and 6.

00:26:43 - 00:26:44 | Speaker 2:

Then they release the sequels, which are 1, 2, and 3.

00:26:44 - 00:26:46 | Speaker 1:

So that would mean, I think—what are the options?

00:26:46 - 00:26:50 | Speaker 2:

Yeah, so you got Rancor, Ewok, Twi'lek, or Zabrak.

00:26:50 - 00:26:51 | Speaker 1:

Zabrak.

00:26:51 - 00:26:52 | Speaker 2:

Zabrak.

00:26:52 - 00:28:08 | Speaker 1:

If I ever have young kids, I'm going to name them Twi'lek and Zabrak. But people say, how do you know they're going to be whatever she says. Girls. I think that we are talking about, what's the question again? Rancor, Ewok, Twi'lek, or Zabrak. I think we're talking about Ewok. I think we are as well. Is it true, though? I'm realizing something. This is where this quiz is deceptively informative, even though it's pretty easy. It's causing me, much like when you're talking to your therapist, and they're not giving you a lot of advice. They're just guiding you kind of effortlessly to where you arrive at an insight, and that's exactly what Oscar has done here. I, for the longest time, was under the impression that George Lucas had just added the Ewoks to the Return of the Jedi to sell more toys because he just was like, well, if we have a bunch of little furry teddy bears, basically, that's more stuff we can sell. But if he had written these out in advance, like if he knew that Return of the Jedi was number four, the existence of it being number six indicates that there was a one through three.

00:28:08 - 00:28:22 | Speaker 2:

But I don't think that, I mean, I could have this wrong, And obviously the nerds will know, but like, I think that I'm, I think that he may, I don't think that he had written out the plot lines of, you know what I mean?

00:28:22 - 00:28:40 | Speaker 1:

Like, so it's possible he did just invent the Ewoks to sell more toys. I'm looking that up now. That was the conspiracy theory when I was a kid, because we were like, this is a departure. Like there's never been a village of teddy bears celebrating in a tree house before in this show. Right. No offense, Oscar.

00:28:40 - 00:29:21 | Speaker 2:

to your favorite characters willow um right oh god what a film i haven't seen willow since it came out in theaters i don't know if i like it or not val kilmer is that work work done but do you think that now well now i'm just gonna get myself in trouble but like do we really think that like when a new hope came out what we think of as the first movie but it's actually episode four i thought that that was just sort of a way of getting us into it because it's kind of like oh wow this is this ongoing space opera right and we're and i don't feel like lucas really had written out one two and three and was going to start here i think you know once like the once it was so popular and then these are not based on novels so it's not like

00:29:21 - 00:29:27 | Speaker 1:

well the you know the writer of the novels includes the ewoks like this was you know he's he's doing

00:29:27 - 00:29:32 | Speaker 2:

this on the fly yeah so okay i'll look that up later okay let's go with number 10 and we'll get

00:29:32 - 00:29:44 | Speaker 1:

I once interviewed a woman about induction stoves who used to be his private chef. Do you think I can get in touch with her and see if she can ask George if he, in fact, created the Ewoks just to sell more toys? That would be good.

00:29:44 - 00:29:48 | Speaker 2:

I actually once interviewed an Ewok, and if I could get in touch with him.

00:29:48 - 00:29:52 | Speaker 1:

I mean, honestly, that's more direct to the source. Were you invented to sell more toys?

00:29:53 - 00:29:56 | Speaker 2:

You have to be careful how you ask it.

00:29:56 - 00:30:06 | Speaker 1:

To which they respond, rubble, rubble. Yub nub. Yub nub. Isn't that what they sing? Don't they sing? I believe they do have a song called Yup-Nub.

00:30:06 - 00:30:07 | Unknown:

Yup-Nub.

00:30:08 - 00:31:01 | Speaker 1:

Yup-Nub. Do-do-do-do-do. Yup-Nub. Having appeared in all three trilogies. This is the last one. We're going to nail this. Having appeared in all three trilogies, he was a Supreme Chancellor, a Sith Lord. Can you still say that? And an Emperor. He was Darth Vader's master. Well, that's Palpatine. I mean, maybe this one, I am out of a, sorry, I'm out of my element here, Donnie. A, Sheev Palpatine slash Darth Sidious. So that's the same person. Darth Maul, Darth Tyrannus, or Kylo Ren. Ooh, well, I guess it's the first one, but I didn't know his, what's the first one again? Sheev Palpatine slash Darth Sidious. so is this the this is the real name of the emperor I guess but I thought Darth Sidious

00:31:01 - 00:31:13 | Speaker 2:

was the guy with all the little red horns on his head I think that's Darth Maul I think I don't know scenes from a Darth Maul that's a bummer we can't watch that movie anymore

00:31:13 - 00:31:47 | Speaker 1:

Darth Maul rats we have too many show titles today scenes from Darth Maul one of the few Woody Allen films that he did not write direct for it oh I didn't know that I don't think so I think it just appears put that on your next quiz yeah probably yeah I guess I'm gonna go send in a Woody Allen quiz oh because they have what we call good decision exactly okay uh so yeah those are your options do you need to hear them again are you ready to go here I am right well I actually you know what Andrew you know

00:31:47 - 00:32:10 | Speaker 2:

what Andrew I am are you starting to use the more Swedish pronunciation yes it's more dignified I actually am going to just go with the first one because it has Palpatine in it, which I always think of being that. But the Darth Sidious stuff, that's all new to me. So I'm going to go with number one. But I don't know the answer.

00:32:10 - 00:32:38 | Speaker 1:

Oh, I'm sorry, actually. It's A, not one. It's answer A. Sheev Palpatine slash Darth Sidious is apparently the Emperor. I did not know that. That's his full name. And so what is the connection? Why would I do this? So if Ray Palpatine slash Skywalker is the same person, which I've now confirmed, she's related to both Luke Skywalker and the Emperor. But the Emperor wasn't like Darth Vader's daddy, right?

00:32:39 - 00:33:11 | Speaker 2:

No, not. Well, I have, Andrew, I haven't watched any of the other movies, but I don't. That how how great slash terrible would it be if George Lucas looking to recapture that magic, that real like kind of, you know, cultural moment that is when Luke Skywalker realizes that Darth Vader is his father. What if looking to recapture that there's just a different scene later on in one of the other movies where the emperor tells Darth Vader he's his father and he calls him Dark Vader.

00:33:11 - 00:33:15 | Speaker 1:

He says, Dark, I am your father. Dark Vader, put down that lightsaber.

00:33:16 - 00:34:16 | Speaker 2:

I'm your daddy. And then at some point, there's some other character who tells the Emperor that he's his dad. He just keeps going. And we just keep doing that. Every movie has somebody. Every Star Wars film has somebody telling someone that they're actually their father. And then Maury is there. In the case of Luke Skywalker, you are the father. hey let's thank some donors who are making today's episode possible i was trying to weave into a star wars reference where i was trying to think of what the money is in star wars but i feel like it's just it's just like units or something right yeah that rings a bell i'm I feel like what they're offering to pay Han Solo for some kind of a smuggling run.

00:34:17 - 00:34:29 | Speaker 1:

Currency, also referred to as money or as DASH, was used as a principal medium of exchange. So it was just called currency? I mean, you had me with units. I thought they were like number of space units.

00:34:29 - 00:34:59 | Speaker 2:

I feel like there's some scene in one of the movies where it's like, you know, Harrison Ford is, somebody's offering him some amount of like units or whatever's to like you know, take somebody somewhere and I feel it, but I don't who knows you know who would know probably? Tyler Namy of Longview, Washington, Tyler neighbors, I can almost I can almost see Tyler from here, perched high above the mighty Columbia Longview's one of the, I'm kind of

00:35:00 - 00:35:05 | Speaker 1:

triangulated between a few cities one of them being longview i was reading in the paper a couple

00:35:05 - 00:35:15 | Speaker 2:

of weeks ago um what is the other town that is near uh longview we've got calama you've got kelso

00:35:15 - 00:35:20 | Speaker 1:

i think it was kelso because you've got rainier oregon across the river do you know that story of

00:35:20 - 00:36:07 | Speaker 2:

the state lawmaker here in washington who was taking a trip to hong kong and did not realize he had an unloaded gun in his bags or whatever, and he realized it mid-flight, and it was supposedly an honest mistake. He let the authorities know in Hong Kong as he deplaned and let customs know, and he actually, I think, had to spend some time in jail there, and now he was, the latest update is he's now been fined by the TSA for this breach. And he seems to be saying, yeah, this was my fault this whole time. But anyway, I believe he's from that part of the world because in the article it said something like, the TSA had to deliver it to his friend's house in Longview because he was in Kelso. It didn't make sense to me. It just seemed like a weird shout-out to your part of the world, honestly.

00:36:08 - 00:37:08 | Speaker 1:

Weird, Andrew, or Long Overdue? Or Longview Overdue. Hey, was it Tyler Neamey, though? I don't think so. He's not the lawmaker in question, right? No, I don't think so. Was it Rhoda Ashley? Does that name ring a bell? Was that part of the article? Because Rhoda is not far from here. Rhoda is in Portland, Oregon. Love the name Rhoda by the way Yeah me too Old school name and a new school way of supporting podcasting Thank you Rhoda Thanks to Margo Feather of Redmond Washington Long time I wouldn't say first time long time But no long time long time Supporter of the program thanks Margo Thanks to Emily Todd of Torrance California Eddie Adams Okay let's play a little game Andrew Eddie Adams from Torrance Who says that And you'll get three points Tony, is that you? The movie, the actor, the movie, the character name, and the actor. Say the quote again. Eddie Adams from Torrance.

00:37:09 - 00:37:13 | Speaker 2:

You sound like you're doing a radio guy, but then you are a radio guy, so how can I say that?

00:37:13 - 00:37:14 | Speaker 1:

Exactly. It's hard for me to turn it off.

00:37:14 - 00:37:26 | Speaker 2:

Can you say it not as a radio guy now? Eddie Adams in Torrance. By the way, that's a horrible impression. Eddie Adams and Torrance Eddie Adams from Torrance

00:37:26 - 00:38:06 | Speaker 1:

Eddie Adams from Torrance He meets this character that says Eddie Adams from Torrance Meets this character named Eddie Adams who's from Torrance And this character Eddie Adams undergoes a name change Torrance, California, think of its proximity to Los Angeles Stripes Think of its proximity to the San Fernando Valley Stripes Think of its proximity to the San Pornando Valley Oh, you got me. I'll bet you it's from The Big Lebowski. Think about the way that people would dance after sunset often in the San Pornando Valley.

00:38:06 - 00:38:16 | Speaker 2:

Oh, the Paul Thomas Anderson film? Yes. Yes, yeah, right. Boogie Nights. Yes, Boogie Nights. Look at the big brain on me.

00:38:16 - 00:38:19 | Speaker 1:

Okay, one point for the name, one point for the movie.

00:38:20 - 00:38:21 | Speaker 2:

Oh, man, I don't know.

00:38:21 - 00:39:02 | Speaker 1:

Yeah, now do you feel for me yesterday? I was in the shit, Andrew. I was fighting for my life. No, that is a line, I think, although I could be wrong, I believe that Burt Reynolds' character, I forget, is the Colonel or something he's called in it? Oh, yeah. I think Burt Reynolds' character says that when he meets, either when he meets Marky Mark's character, because basically they're in this kind of nightclub, and Marky Mark is like a busser, and his name is Eddie Adams. He's from Torrance. He, of course, ultimately will become Dirk Diggler. Dirk Diggler. I think Burt Reynolds' character identifies him as somebody who has some potential in the adult film industry. And he says, Eddie Adams from Torrance.

00:39:02 - 00:39:07 | Speaker 2:

Interesting. I can never remember Dirk Diggler's name. I always have Chester Rockwell ready to go, though.

00:39:07 - 00:41:12 | Speaker 1:

Oh, what a good one. I mean, if you're going to have a name clouding up your brain, Chester Rockwell is. Clouding it up with chest hair, yes. And if Chester Rockwell is taken, we can always accept Cassie Fontenot of Monroe, Washington. That's a great name, too. Cassie Fontenot. Yeah. Love it. Thanks, Cassie. And then Malia Mayer is in Wenatchee. Wow. I was near Wenatchee a while ago when I was in Leavenworth, and it was an interesting experience for Wenatchee to be the big city. Oh, sure. to people, and in fact, the rise and then fall of Leavenworth, Washington was directly related to the rise and fall of Wenatchee, Washington, because as Leavenworth was losing population in the late 1800s, or after various industries left, Wenatchee was swelling with population, maybe even the four parents of Malia Mayer. Or Malia may have moved there recently. I don't know. Yeah. I don't have any information on that. I just wanted to take a moment to speculate on the history of Wenatchee, Washington. Well, Malia, thank you. Thank you, everybody, for supporting the show. Thanks to all of our donors. And thanks to everybody for listening to today's edition of the Winter Games. Tomorrow will be another Winter Game, but it will be, how do you describe it? It'll be a little more live than this one. Is that a thing? Yeah, we're recording a fresh show tomorrow. me and Genevieve. I know how you guys feel about me, which is somewhere in the middle, but I know you love Genevieve, so tune in for that. I mean, I love Genevieve, honestly, like on the show and in real life. So I'm looking forward. I'll finally tune into one of these. Oh, nice. Now that I know Genevieve is going to be on. Do you know where to find it? tbtl.net, baby. Oh, .net. Okay. I've been going to .com, and that is explaining a lot of my confusion. Alright, everyone. Thanks for listening. We're going to be back here tomorrow with more Imaginary Radio. For you, In the meantime, have a great Thursday. And please remember, no mountain too tall. And good luck to all. Power out.
